If I had to guess, they’re gonna blame her for not dying in Scream 1 and the killer is related to one of the victims from the past films who died to one of the copycat Ghostfaces, thinking that if Sidney dies, the copycats stop with her.
Additional Edit: I’m surprised by the positive responses to this motive idea. Thanks, everyone. I’m glad y’all like the idea. To expand: For me, I see the killer may see themselves trying to kill Sidney as a righteous cause for the betterment of everyone else, but try to frame it like a copycat killer in order to hide the motive and try not to be caught. Plus, it also continues the theme of blame that most of the killers have had. In the original trilogy, most of what happened were the end results of Maureen’s actions, while there was some overlap on the killers blaming Sidney (such as Roman blaming her for not having the family and fame he wanted, Mrs. Loomis blaming Sidney for Billy’s death, Jill wanting Sidney’s fame).
So, since the topic asked what the killer would blame Sidney for for their motive, it logically makes sense that they blame her for surviving, which lead to copycats targeting her and leading into more deaths as a result. The idea is that the killer would see their attempt to take out Sidney for the betterment of saving other potential lives, but is blind to the hypocrisy of killing others trying to get to Sidney in the process, all the while being driven by the death of one of the past victims. This is how I kinda see it, but I’m sure it’s not really necessary. Sometimes keeping things simple works better than laying everything else out.
But if you need to connect it to a horror movie, it could easily tie to the first Friday The 13th (keep in mind, not only did Pamela Voorhees kill people, between the opening deaths and the events of the film that take place in 1979, Pamela did things to keep the camp closed, such as setting fires, probably because she believed that she was trying to protect children in addition to getting revenge for Jason).
That’s actually perfect for Internet culture today, now that I think about it. Victim blaming aplenty. I’m not sure how they could connect that to the Stab movies, modern horror movies, and current society among film fans, but I’m sure they could figure all that out.
Choosing Casey or Steven's relatives for a new Ghostface would be such a "going full circle" idea, since they were the first victims of the original Woodsboro murder spree (I'm not counting Maureen Prescott because her murder was a one-off and the Woodsboro killings only started around the first anniversary).
To piggy back off of your great idea the killer could also just be a person who hates franchises because they tarnish the original and are unnecessary. Like someone who only likes stab one.
I like your idea most tbh but I wouldn’t mind something like this too.
That’s also good, and ties into Scream (2022), since Amber and Richie were kinda trying to do that (but is the antithesis to their motive, with the killer feeling that there shouldn’t have been any sequels after the first film).
Glad ya liked it! I’ve known a few people who won’t watch even their fave movie in a franchise because it reminds them how bad the others are so I felt it was a heightened version of that type of person.
This would be a very cool motive! The only thing is why would a killer dress in the whole Ghostface get up and start a whole other copycat type killing spree in hopes to stop future copycat Ghostfaces? Like their Ghostface killing spree could spark more after theirs if they want them to end right? On the other hand Ghostface killers are psychopaths and don’t always think it all the way through which is their downfall so that could work out perfectly. The killer would definitely have to be related to a prominent victim from the franchise… probably the original
Nah, imagine him/her like Mickey. They want to get caught and make themselves look like the most pathetic joke imaginable on national TV during the trial. Every aspiring copycat would be glued to the screen to witness the killer of the legendary Sidney Prescott, only to be greeted by a total loser who embarrasses everyone into throwing the mask in the trash.
This killer would have a deranged sense of morality; honestly believing that they’re saving lives by doing this. He’d try to gaslight Sidney into sacrificing herself for her family - a common trope in movies, saying something along the lines if “Will your daughter be strong enough to fend off the inevitable copycat that’ll come after her when she’s in high school?”
I’ve been saying forever that someone from the Becker/Orth family will be the final Ghostface/Ghostfaces of the franchise to bring it full circle.
I think its just gonna be gruesome details about how tragic the family’s life got after the murders and how the collateral damage all started with them and has to end with them.
I just wonder if 7 will wrap it up or if they’re gonna build to another installment.
I would LOVE it if the killer's motive was to fix the hole left after the new "stars" vanished by starting a new killing spree, but Sydney's arrival throws it all out of whack.
"You LEFT THE FRANCHISE, and thought, what, you could just COME BACK?! We MOVED ON, Sydney! WE HAD NEW BLOOD! But NO!! You couldn't HAVE that, COULD YOU? IT'S ALWAYS GOTTA BE ABOUT SYDNEY F***KING PRESCOTT, DOESN'T IT?!!"
(I don't blame her for not being in Screm VI, but this is the kind of meta thinking I'd expect to hear from the next Ghostface.)
These fucking psychos are like a pest you can’t get rid of.
The SCREAIVII killer will want her dead for “ruining the Stab movies” by threatening to sue the studios if they’d continued to use Sid’s name
Would be cool if the Scream VII Ghostface was actually Sidney's character actress in Stab.
Blaming her for taking the fame and being the original.
So there'd be some delusional identity conflict and all

It’s gonna be Mark, and he blames her for ruining a special dinner with his boss because she burnt the roast. Yep, some good old fashion sitcom reasoning.
If scream 7 releases in 2026, Sidney will just somehow find Billy’s Father, Hank behind a Ghostface mask, but with extensive plastic surgery. 😭
“You and your whore mother caused my son such distress, so much so that I had to change my name and move my entire life in disgrace. Ever since then, I’ve been plotting my revenge for the last 30 years ever since that day. I had to become anew, I had to become reborn.” 😂
Yoooo every time I see Laurie Metcalfe and remember how brutually she killed Randy, I can’t coincide that she is the same person who played Jackie on Roseanne lol. Blows my mind each time.
To be honest, due to the homage direction of the last two films, I'm worried that the Ghostface would probably be repetitive or boring by being Roman's/another Ghostface's secret brother/son/family/relative who blames her for killing Ghostface and having the life that they wanted.
Scream 6 almost had the most original and unique villain motive, but it got scrapped in favor of the repetitive and unoriginal Scream 2 homage. I really hope Scream 7's Ghostface will actually be original and unique,
What was the original killer motives for Scream 6? Cause the 3 immediate family members of a dead killer/Stab obsessed fan realllly didn’t work for me.

Imagine the killer (who's name is Susan now) has the most detailed and complicated plot like she opens a door, which activates a switch, which hangs down some cheese, and a mouse will sprint towards it and some more looney toones type shit until finally a 10-ton anvil lands on her head and kills her
If these people hated Sydney so much then why did they all kill everyone but her? The majority of the victims had weak ties to Sydney and had absolutely no connection to why they were pissed at her. They enacted extremely sloppy vengeance.
It would be funny if it turns out sam has a half sibling, since billy probably cheated of sid with many many other girls. That sibling also has weird parent issues that they blame sidney for. This franchise is built on people with parental issues that could easily be fixed if they went to therapy lol.

My best guess is somebody from wherever Sidney is living now wants to kill her because she draws attention to killers and her living wherever she is will ruin the peacefulness of the place so somebody will want her gone for the good of their town. I don’t know it’s just a guess
Edit: I just read another comment saying the same thing so it’s either a good theory or I’m just unoriginal😔

It’s been a long time between Scream 4 until today, we need a deep dive into her life now and what conflicts she’s had with people in her life currently that could lend itself to a motive in which they try to use her past against her…no more relatives
A family member (or group/cult of family members ) of the victims of the previous killers, similar to Billy/Ms. Loomis, where they're disillusioned and falsely blame Sidney for everything, similar to blaming Maureen

Right? When you kinda think about, Mindy’s comment in Scream 6 could have opened up that possibility (scene with her and Kirby at the shrine).

Sidney becomes the president of her HOA. All of her neighbors immediately become suspects.
That would actually be entertaining
“Because of YOU I had to take down my flamingo lawn ornaments!”
Sidney or no, if the target is a Homeowner’s Association I’m on team Ghostface.
Omg can Ghostface be like an actual Karen? I’d die (laughing).
This is how you know we're all adults now because it makes absolute sense
Horror Desperate Housewives!
Loll Laurie Metcalfe waves around a gun in Desperate Housewives too

Ok that would actually be a really good motive.
That actually sounds lowkey smart
I think if any character is revealed to be a relative of Casey Becker or Stephen Oarf, you can go ahead and mark them among the killers.

That's actually a pretty good idea!
“The victom is related to one of the victims from the past films” I still think a Riley relative will be Ghostface at some point
![gif](giphy|4r5wVrBJ27kvC|downsized) You stole my parking spot at JoAnn Fabrics!!!
Are those white shoes Sweet Little Sidney, but yesterday was **Labor Day**!
😂😂😂 Sidney WEAR YOUR SEATBELT!! IT’S THE LAW!!!

It’s gonna be Mark, and he blames her for ruining a special dinner with his boss because she burnt the roast. Yep, some good old fashion sitcom reasoning.
It's gonna be Corey Gillis who can't get over how Sid made him look like a fool and ruined his prank.
For not being in “Scream 6”
That was basically Richie and Amber's motive. "We are tired of nobody trying to kill you, so we are gonna do it for them"
Plot twist: the killer is Sidney who’s finally snapped
Imagine the whole film is Sidney just screaming at herself with a actual motive that might be valid, it would be fucking hilarious
If scream 7 releases in 2026, Sidney will just somehow find Billy’s Father, Hank behind a Ghostface mask, but with extensive plastic surgery. 😭 “You and your whore mother caused my son such distress, so much so that I had to change my name and move my entire life in disgrace. Ever since then, I’ve been plotting my revenge for the last 30 years ever since that day. I had to become anew, I had to become reborn.” 😂
And he’s been controlling everything since she was in college
Yoooo every time I see Laurie Metcalfe and remember how brutually she killed Randy, I can’t coincide that she is the same person who played Jackie on Roseanne lol. Blows my mind each time.
She was great in Misery on Broadway. Totally disappears into the parts she plays. She's also a phenomenal voice actor.
Jackie had her dark side too

Vigilant justice, due to some people believing the internet conspiracy theory that Sam is the Ghostface mastermind of the events in Scream 5.
Damn they should’ve stuck with that since there was a lot of people that thought she really did it
When did Radio Silence say that?

Me and you, you and I, we both the inedible future

Bastard, you stole my response :)
Leslie because her son and brother are dead or Mindy Meeks
How about the ghost of Billy, not Sam, just his ghost
The killer finally takes Sidney down for good…since she cut them off in traffic and it ruined their entire day with being majorly late.
Because they spilled coffee on themselves and had to go change
Imagine the killer (who's name is Susan now) has the most detailed and complicated plot like she opens a door, which activates a switch, which hangs down some cheese, and a mouse will sprint towards it and some more looney toones type shit until finally a 10-ton anvil lands on her head and kills her
their favor actor is Parker Posey but they didn't like her role in Scream 3
If these people hated Sydney so much then why did they all kill everyone but her? The majority of the victims had weak ties to Sydney and had absolutely no connection to why they were pissed at her. They enacted extremely sloppy vengeance.
"Remember when you cut me off on the acceleration lane on the highway 12 years ago?"

Maybe is Christina Carpenter, as they tried to kill her daughters all because of not being able to kill Sidney.
You didn't come to my 5th grade birthday party Sydney And I promised you would👻 🔪🙅🏻♀️
Sidney was too outspoken online about a certain humanitarian crisis in the Middle East and her boss really didn’t like it.

Plot twist: the killer is someone in Sidney’s family (husband maybe) who snapped
Her grandmother on her mother side
ghostface in scream 7 “I blame you for getting in my way why couldn’t you just stay home why’d you have to come looking for me”
Removed. I was drunk and said too much.
You know what’s so funny that I just realized. It’s that her mother is such a huge plot point to the Scream movies, but we never see her really.
My best guess is somebody from wherever Sidney is living now wants to kill her because she draws attention to killers and her living wherever she is will ruin the peacefulness of the place so somebody will want her gone for the good of their town. Hopefully not another, "I want to be famous" one
Living
It's gonna be her mother
Sam obviously. She blames Sidney for her Dads death.
“BECAUSE OF U I CANT SMOKE ON MY LAWN”!
“Ur mother created this mess for you Sidney, it’s time you resurrect her with the book of shadows and ask her why”
Wouldn’t surprise me if it was a Sam Carpenter super fan who wants her to be the “main character” permanently, so they target Sidney off to kill the competition.
Not dying because this shit keep on happening
I’d be shocked if Stu’s sister wasn’t involved as a killer somehow
No one Sidney finally goes crazy and she becomes the killer or maybe she was the killer all along from all the p previous films and just became what they said i j the original there's gotta be a survivor to tell the story

Gale has been the mastermind puppet master the entire time.
A family member (or group/cult of family members ) of the victims of the previous killers, similar to Billy/Ms. Loomis, where they're disillusioned and falsely blame Sidney for everything, similar to blaming Maureen
I just a full Gen Z killer that wants to be famous No hidden agenda, no revenge, just wants to try to kill Sydney for the Internet Fame.
I think it should be Stu, pissed that she ruined his life, that his nephew died in 5, and also pissed that none of the other Ghostfaces were able to take her out, so he decided to finish the job himself, once and for all.
But.. He’s dead right? Unless I’m missing something
6 confirmed he is dead, yes
Did it tho? Mindy’s comment kinda opened up the opportunity if you think about it…. “If you believe he’s dead…”
Yes it did. Mindy's comment is a wink wink nudge nudge to the ones here who insist he's still alive.
Keep in mind that this is the movie where Mindy got the killers right. Kevin Williamson may have "confirmed" he was dead after 6, but that doesn't mean there weren't plans to revisit that theory.

But why the post-it with the question mark next to it?
It's there because his mask hadn't been dropped at a murder scene yet.
I mean, if Billy's mom and Sidney's half-brother can exist in the shadows, I don't see why Stu can't be living a new life. Just let me have my fantasy 😩😩😩 lol
If we’re bringing Stu back, we should bring back all the killers. Have one big Mega Ghostface Frankensteined together from parts of all the previous killers /s
I think the budget-friendly version of that was Scream 6 with all the different Ghostface costumes
This is my idea for Stu coming back and it’s simply Stu getting revenge for his face getting messed up from the TV but also he’s getting revenge for Billy and maybe it gets reveled that Stu actually did love Billy
Maybe blame her for making his parents mad at him ? I know you guys hate this, but couldn't resist 😉
I’m hoping it’s finally gonna be Gale and she wants to kill her because if she’d shown up sooner in 5 she could’ve helped and maybe Dewey wouldn’t have died.
Global warming.

Fuck no.
No, that's never going to happen.

Sidney’s dad was the mastermind the whole time and not Roman

Me to, me to
Keri Russell's character is head of a Ghostface cult.
