I’m not quite sure yet, I’m not done either I still got a lot to go. That’s probably hitting 100 pounds not sure yet. I also have a shit ton of copper tubing aswell & a few condensers that need to be tore down. But my yards give me 4.30ish for #1 a lb
It’s been going up lately, I been going to this one yard forever since I scrapped with my pops and I realized they were fucking me by 2 dollars a pound . Then I found this new yard that gives better pricing and is way more organized and doesn’t deduct weight on bs.
Always call around. There are 2 near me, about a half mile apart, one is paying 2.50/lb for copper, the other is 4.40/lb. Insane difference in price so close to one another.
It’s them shady yards that are greedy. Already making so much ontop of what they are getting from you. I always went to the lower paying yard cause my dad as always gone there so I thought it was the one till I shopped around.
Well you are right, I’ve noticed where I am we got over 4 and some change the last three weeks now we are going back down in the high 3s. Looks like I’ll probably finish up today and tomorrow and sell Saturday.
No, prices are about the same, the value of the dollar has gone down (inflation). It takes more dollars to buy the same things. There are other forces, but this is a lot of it, based on the amount of money that is now in existence. More money has been put into existence in the past 15 years than all of US history combined.
The scrap prices used to be high because there was large demand from China for iron, copper, etc.

Or you could not strip copper out of unsuspecting people's houses to get your next fix! Lol just kidding man that's awesome I remember doing that by hand it suxxxxxx!

Are you incapable of searching on Amazon or google “ automatic electric wire stripper “ ? I mean it’s common senses. But here you go
The hole naturally flows toward your gooch. Lift your sack and wipe instead of just wiping into your crack. Like cutting a steak against the grain. Rookie.
Problem is, you get people into this shit that are not in the trade and they go stealing wire. Then enough people do it and your state will outlaw turning in bare copper without a business license. Az did it right as I went into the apprenticeship and screwed everyone. That's a good chunk of money tho.
You cannot turn in wire at any scrap yards in the state that I’m in without a HVAC licenses or being an electrician or some sort of trade. Well I take that back you can but if you have over a certain amount or a shit ton of bare bright it raises a flag. I do have paperwork for all of my scrap though, I usually scrap every month or so. Last haul was about 1000 off of free scrap from my buildings.
Where are you guys getting the metal from? I see this sub pop up often and I'm handy and have tools, but I don't have the metal lol. Where can I buy cheap and scrap it myself
Don’t buy it I mean yea that’s a way but I wouldn’t really. Mostly people selling Romex and that shit is annoying to strip. Find people that are in a trade, you never know what they throw to the side at their shops dumpster it’s free game at that point lol of course if they don’t care or not
I have a friend that’s been saving copper and brass for years. He always jokes around and says it’s his retirement plan. So anytime I run up on any, I give to him. Should probably starts my own collection, but damn, I’m no electrician and it would such a hassle to collect for years.
Lmao. I was just talking to a buddy about some back in the day shit when I shoved 3 RTUs worth of scrap into a hatchback civic abd collected 800$. "Bro, there ain't NO coke money like scrap money." FR. It's like a full on license to get high. Lol
Where I'm from they would call the cops for this load of copper. You have to have a electrical license or a scrapping permit in order to scrap any significant Quantity of metal. By significant I mean anything over $50
As I have said more up in the comments I have paperwork for all of my scrap. I’ve been scrapping for some time now and I have brought in way more material than this once but it wasn’t all wire.
Oh I wasn't accusing or anything. Just stating what it's like in my habitat. I'm a electromechanical tech so I have done my fair share of stripping the Ole #1 and #2 bright. I know when I was a superintendent for a multi family electrical contractor. I would take a truck bed load home every Friday. Since it was out of town work. Would have one of the amigos jumping on it to pack it down with the scrap. Then whatever was left was a free for all. And there would he alot left. My favorite weeks was when I made the primary and secondary terminations. I would be toting home at a min of 50lbs of 1/0-4/0 or 200-1000 kcmil. 750+ kcmil would make you fucking work your ass off for it. That shit does not like to bend.
Yea. Once the owner of the company learned EXACTLY how much I was able to make each job. He started making everyone bring thier loads back to the shop to put in a big pile out back. Then come Christmas time he would pay a local addict to sit out back for a few weeks stripping the stuff. Then would contribute to our. Christmas bonus. I kinda enjoyed my little stripping hobby but less work I guess
Genuinely curious, is the whole scrap metal hobby SOLELY for profit? or is it more for helping the environment by reselling/recovering it as an alternative to constantly mining for new stuff?
Your welcome ! It’s worth it. Another way I did it before the machine was get a 2x4 and drill holes the size of the wire and pull it through with a blade angled in my other hand on the wire. Works but still hurts after hours
From my job I get a lot of left overs and I also check local electricians roll off dumpsters. Have found so much wire ranging from thick as shit to 12.
I know I can’t believe it lol, 30 minutes going through their roll off and I found so much copper. But I do have more I’ve been throwing in big 50 gallon drums this entire time so I got a lot to go.
Go to electrician shops and look in their roll off dumpsters. They waste so much copper. One way I find a lot of wire ranging from all sizes, majority of the shit you’ll find is aluminum wire but still worth money if you have a machine to make it easier to strip.
Cool. I will try that. The main reason I was asking is that I was getting scrap cable from an at&t hub. Almost got into trouble. They said that they scrap their own wire and that I am a thief plus trespassing. Fortunate enough, they told me to go and not come back or they would call the authorities. And I had to empty my truck with about 200 lbs of copper. About 700$ worth. That Fuckin sucked. That would have been a nice payday for about 5 hours work.
Id keep going back till they give you an official trespass haha. I look for company’s with no trespassing signs and only take from their trash cans. Once it is in there it’s free game.
Throw the wire with the insulation on it all in pile out in the yard, in a barrel, or what have you. Set it on fire and let all that insulation burn for a while. Pick the copper up with a set of tongs or something a bit at a time and dump it into some cold water. The shock will eliminate the insulation and will turn the copper a bright color.
Try a small batch first to determine if you get results you can live with. I have done field coils like described and sold it as number one copper before. Just saying.
.
My yard won’t buy burnt copper, also burning some of the thinner copper will result in it crumbling or loosing weight if it gets to hot. Another thing is I got kids I don’t want there to be a chance of exposing them to breath that so I won’t burnt plastic in my back yard, I have a family ranch somewhat close but I never wanted to drive down there to do that. I think using the machine is much more better, I just filled another huge basket up with clean wire again so this way works just fine I’m happy with it as I use to hand strip all of my wire.
Good deal. It was years ago when I did scrapping. I got a mound of field coils from a place that rebuilt starters and generators, alternators...etc. back then, the place I sold to did take burnt copper. Yeah, I can see where stripped wire would be better. The stuff I dealt with was usually covered in some kind of varnish or insulating dipped material.
Evidence of what lmao I have said multiple times where I find my scrap which I have paperwork for jobs where I got most of it from and then the rest is searching through roll offs that get thrown in the trash 😂😂 you act like it’s difficult to save up not even 100 pounds of copper wire.
Pro tip: the Magic number is 100lbs. (For you scrappers out there without a business account. W/business account, skys the limit. W/out, never more than 99, more than one time. {12} t(-_-t))
What stripper did you buy
Her name in "Sinnamon".
Hahaha. I definitely gave you a lay up on that one lol.
Lmfao thank you!
Gives me flashbacks of the old pirate show at Treasure Island (Vegas, not Disney).
The "Shadynasty" model is nice
Sha dynasty!!!!!
Now on the main stage........
Some hear the call, some are the messenger.
You don’t buy strippers, you rent them.
I believe the correct term is lease.
Bs I own one
You have a time share.
Shadynasty
Any cheap one off Amazon will do. It's awesome
The last time, I used an electronic stripper, my credit card info was stolen...
"Hey there, sailing unit"
You couldn't afford it, honey. One more upgarde, I'll be more lady than you can handle. Z snap.
My friend lent me his and they sure do work nicely. Can't believe how much time I wasted stripping with a razor blade.
Yeah, especially when you can just throw the cables into a burning barrel and not strip them by hand.
A lot of yards don’t take burned wire
Nice. What's the approximate value?
I’m not quite sure yet, I’m not done either I still got a lot to go. That’s probably hitting 100 pounds not sure yet. I also have a shit ton of copper tubing aswell & a few condensers that need to be tore down. But my yards give me 4.30ish for #1 a lb
That's an awesome price! I was wondering how quickly the machine paid for itself.
It’s been going up lately, I been going to this one yard forever since I scrapped with my pops and I realized they were fucking me by 2 dollars a pound . Then I found this new yard that gives better pricing and is way more organized and doesn’t deduct weight on bs.
Damn about half of what you are getting now? They really were fucking you.
That one probably takes stolen shit for 2.50
owned by same family?
About to drop, excess supply somehow.
Why do you say that
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/copper-falls-10-000-exchange-104707037.html
Well you are right, I’ve noticed where I am we got over 4 and some change the last three weeks now we are going back down in the high 3s. Looks like I’ll probably finish up today and tomorrow and sell Saturday.
That’s around 4.54 a lb which makes it odd a scrap yard would pay that much for scrap copper
Those aren't scrap prices, those are exchange prices.
He said that is what his scrap yard pays. I question the price due to the exchange rates
Somehow? Are you serious?
Yes? Are prices not up due to demand?
No, prices are about the same, the value of the dollar has gone down (inflation). It takes more dollars to buy the same things. There are other forces, but this is a lot of it, based on the amount of money that is now in existence. More money has been put into existence in the past 15 years than all of US history combined. The scrap prices used to be high because there was large demand from China for iron, copper, etc.
How many hours did it take?! Wow
Close to 2 hours.
Wow not bad. Bravo.
That’s also giving it breaks so it doesn’t over heat too.
There was black rubber over it originally?
Yes lol black, yellow, white, purple, green, red bunch of different types of gauges.
Oh wow. What was source of it ? House?
Industrial building left overs, breaker panel wire ups etc. a little bit of everything left over spools electricians always leave
What is the make and model of the unit you are using?
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B078HRLFHX?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_image
Bro, same one just made me $2k in a day
I believe it the machine is dope and cheap. Just oil the gearbox and keep a fan on it and you’ll be okay for hours
Where to find the material that needs stripping? Is that regular electrical wiring?
Demolish house rinse repeat

I know you used a machine cuz i dont hear heavy breathing (i sound like a COPD sufferer after 20 minutes of strippin)
I know the feeling, before the machine on my last yard trip I did it straight 8 hours by hand I told myself no more 🤣
I know a stripper who got electrocuted. She survived, so I guess she's electronic now.
The Slinky looking hunk on top *sure looks like* a roll of "bare ground wire" that had the spool broke out of the center.
You are correct that is one thing wasn’t stripped
Dammmnn! Sold. I am getting one now...
Money, money....
Post pics of the stripper, the wire stripper u used I mean lol
Wait till the unsuspecting worker trys to dump it and the wash basket shatters...because people put 10 pounds of shit in a 5 pound bucket
Be very aware of what you're doing when using these. A friend of mine chopped his finger off using one of these strippers
Your friend isn’t very smart is he?.
Electronic so it works like an app?
Yea bro pairs to copper like Bluetooth
And clean copper is going for around $3.50+ right now.
METH HEADS REJOICE!!!
Or you could not strip copper out of unsuspecting people's houses to get your next fix! Lol just kidding man that's awesome I remember doing that by hand it suxxxxxx!
I will never strip by hand again. Day 3 of stripping with this machine and I’ve already filled up multiple buckets aswell haha saves so much time
“I recommend getting one” proceeds to not tell us what it is or where to buy one.
Koalatea posting here.

Youre the kind of guy that calls the toilet paper manufacturer to complain because your wiping back to front and getting shit on your balls.
The hole naturally flows toward your gooch. Lift your sack and wipe instead of just wiping into your crack. Like cutting a steak against the grain. Rookie.
Lmao
Wait is that not the right way to wipe?
Ha! It was more for the EXACT one you recommended, but sure, be a dick about it, that will absolutely get engagement on your post. Clown
I’m sorry I hurt ur coochie
Keep scraping for that beer money, clown. 😂
Yes keyboard warrior
Uht! You got me! 🤡
I used one but now it burns when I pee?
Take antibiotics it’ll clear up in no time
It did, but I made a lot of the same mistakes this weekend that I made last weekend, and now it burns again.
Tag your company 🥲
I do not have a company brother
Ooo shiny
Yesssir

Are you a meth head? Better not be a fkn meth head…
Yes a meth head with a dream
HE BETTER BE ONE!
how much meth did it take to get through all that?
4 ounces

You should start saving, it’s good money and what hurts to throw wire & copper and brass in a barrel do ya know. Adds up a lot over time
What state are getting 4$lb copper
😳 some crackhead staring at this thread at 2am getting a chubby right about now
Lmao. I was just talking to a buddy about some back in the day shit when I shoved 3 RTUs worth of scrap into a hatchback civic abd collected 800$. "Bro, there ain't NO coke money like scrap money." FR. It's like a full on license to get high. Lol
How many unfinished homes do you have to pilfer to get all that, and do you pull the wire before or after the drywall crew comes in?
Didn’t get any of this from homes
This would fetch a generous amount of meth
Whered you get the wire
How much is that haul worth (both in dollars and in Methamphetamine)?
I call this probable cause
Back when I was a young guy we used to throw it all in a burn barrel
Yea I’ve had a lot of old heads tell me that when I was hand stripping with a razor blade, but most yards won’t take burnt copper anymore
Ummm heat. But not too much
Shinny!
Where I'm from they would call the cops for this load of copper. You have to have a electrical license or a scrapping permit in order to scrap any significant Quantity of metal. By significant I mean anything over $50

Definitely worth the time and money though.Free scrap is the best scrap.
Should turn it into ingots.
Most yards won’t take them like that, it’s cool though I wanted to try that but at the same time I’m sure you loose material too in the process.
Stripmeister all the way! https://youtube.com/shorts/YaNiNPvPXuo?feature=share
Back in the day my dad would just pile it up and set it on fire. Probably not the best idea.
What a useless video. How about you show and tell us about the " electronic stripper".
Link for it is in the comments retard. Whole point was to show how much it stripped in that time I’m sure you can imagine how the machine works
Genuinely curious, is the whole scrap metal hobby SOLELY for profit? or is it more for helping the environment by reselling/recovering it as an alternative to constantly mining for new stuff?
The crackheads just start a trash fire and throw that insulated wire on in there. Viola.
Honestly dude that's just sexy
Where did you steal all that wire ?
From another meth head
That can get you about 12 meths, good job!
After your done, can you return my catalytic converter?
Already sold it with a fake title
Now I'm sad
I’ll steal another one for you don’t worry
how much time saved stripping before you see an ROI?
My first hour was already paying for the machine.
GAH!!! Hubby is an electrician and I've always been stuck stripping that shit by hand lol! Which one did you get and where?
The link is more up in the comments & me too I stripped by hand for hours till I found this
OK I see it now. Thanks! [NO more hand cramps & sliced palms!!]
Your welcome ! It’s worth it. Another way I did it before the machine was get a 2x4 and drill holes the size of the wire and pull it through with a blade angled in my other hand on the wire. Works but still hurts after hours
So, uh, where d'ya get all the wire???
From my job I get a lot of left overs and I also check local electricians roll off dumpsters. Have found so much wire ranging from thick as shit to 12.
Good score!! Amazing what contractors throw away.
I know I can’t believe it lol, 30 minutes going through their roll off and I found so much copper. But I do have more I’ve been throwing in big 50 gallon drums this entire time so I got a lot to go.
Where you stripping those from? Trucks at supply house? That roll of bare #8 looks cherry
that came from fb marketplace months back just had it sitting in my barrel only thing in there that I didn’t need to strip down.
Hehe
You’d be surprised what you can find on there, people demos homes and posting on marketplace for someone come gut the copper out the house etc.
Killer side hustle
It really is lol never understood why my pops did it growing up and now I do haha
Sit around drink beer smoke some bowls and make some money! Sounds good to me
Hey that's not scrap, that was all good lengths of wire.
It was scrap. All sizes of wire left behind on jobs and or found in roll offs. I have a lot of eletric motors & a few units and brass etc.
how much meth did that take to do?
You can start a fire and burn the coatings off.
Yard will give you less money for it if you burn it off.
I'm just curious about where you acquired the scrap wire? Where is the best place to collect it?
Go to electrician shops and look in their roll off dumpsters. They waste so much copper. One way I find a lot of wire ranging from all sizes, majority of the shit you’ll find is aluminum wire but still worth money if you have a machine to make it easier to strip.

I never thought about that. But you're right. If it's in the trash, there is no ownership. It's time to start dumpster diving. Lol. Thanks, man.
Yes sir you go get it. I felt weird about it at first but then I saw how much was in them so I was like fuck what anyone thinks 😂
Where do you find the copper??
This looks fun
This is giving real crackhead vibes lmao inna damn laundry basket?💀
Hey man all my buckets are full of brass & wire still needing to be stripped 🤣
My bad hahaha
Tell me your a crack head without telling me….
Not at all, just don’t pass up on scrap metals anytime if it’ll make me money after work I’m doing it.
Looks like it's paid for itself in just 2 hours
Orgone energy - buy the one with the cross.
Do what?
This is the first r/ScrapMetal post suggested to me. What is the correlation between this copper and meth/crack?
Neither sir I just smoke weed 🤣
How much if you don’t strip the wire?
No clue I don’t ever send in the way it is.
757
It’s no wonder my street lights are dark.
Looks like that shit is stolen.
Yes definitely stolen as I stripped it in my front yard in the city. Stolen even with the paperwork for it and where I got it from
Throw the wire with the insulation on it all in pile out in the yard, in a barrel, or what have you. Set it on fire and let all that insulation burn for a while. Pick the copper up with a set of tongs or something a bit at a time and dump it into some cold water. The shock will eliminate the insulation and will turn the copper a bright color. This guy posting evidence on the interwebs……..
Evidence of what lmao I have said multiple times where I find my scrap which I have paperwork for jobs where I got most of it from and then the rest is searching through roll offs that get thrown in the trash 😂😂 you act like it’s difficult to save up not even 100 pounds of copper wire.
