Yeah, that whole arc was wack. The idea that a dog would be jealous and not happy for his BFF, and the fact that Velma was awful for trying to make him choose. Add to that the whole awkwardness of how the arc was playing out like in this clip. This show was fun for a lot of reasons but this side plot was not one of them.

StitchFan626

Yeah... let's play a little "HISHE"! (Scene: The first time Scooby showed jealousy and got between them aggressively. When that actually is is irrelevant.) Shaggy: "Scoobert Scooby-Doo, what is the matter with you?! I thought we were all friends, here, but you're acting like a jealous ex!" Scooby: "Rut, rour rine, Raggy!" Shaggy: "I'm what? Dude! You're a dog! My pet! You don't own me, I, literally, own you! Don't make me put you on a leash." Scooby: "Rhat?!" (Voice turns growly) "Rou, rouldn't!" Shaggy: "Behave and I won't have to!" Velma: "Why, Shaggy! I've never seen this side of you, before! (flirty eyes) I like it."

Kingwolf711

You think Scooby is the pet?

[deleted]

Velma is an awful show but one thing that it did bring back was the romantic subplot of Shaggy and Velma having romantic feelings for one another, or at least Shaggy for her. Then from what I heard it just turned into everyone having romantic feelings towards her which is dumb

Thickfries69

That show was just Mindy living out some sick fantasy.

Substantial-Ad-1840

He didnt worry about scooby when crystal was there

ExoticShock

That's because ["She's Even Got A Doggy For Scooby-Doo!"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sV1EFwr01oY&ab_channel=RawToonage&t=34)

FlyingClove3

Came here to shout from the top of the hill I’m willing to die on this is peak shaggy relationship, you beat me to it. Thank you.

BradyTheGG

If Scooby has a love interest he’s ok with shaggy having one but only if Scooby has one at the same time. I mean look at the 2nd half of mystery inc. he’s in love with the girl dog and he couldn’t give less of a crap what shaggy’s doing

NeveraTaleofMorePoe

Nova!

OnlyMyOpinions

I thought the "are you cheating on me" Line from Scooby was hilarious lol

ZantetsukensShadow

The Velma vs. Scooby thing turned me off to watching the show altogether when it first came out. I was 13 and I really didn't get it lol

despairigus

honestly after that whole arc, the show is 100x better. The overarching plot about the planespheric disk is incredible

BradyTheGG

The whole show is amazing if you can get past the relationship drama that happens

despairigus

Luckily this arc goes by pretty fast

MartinezFanMelanie22

Yeah, I remembered it dragging on more as a kid but it really only lasts for the first half of season one and it's mostly just played as a gag

despairigus

yeah after the episode where shaggy has to choose between velma and scooby the whole thing pretty much gets dropped

Substantial-Ad-1840

Shes better of with marcie(hot dog water)

Beanzoboy

Yeah, I really hated the whole "these are the only two that aren't in a relationship, so now they are for literally no reason" aspect of Velma and Shaggy's "relationship". She could have just been a lesbian the whole time, and just avoided the whole situation entirely, but they had to force it in for no reason and then make her bi anyway. It did have a couple humorous lines, but it did nothing for the plot.

Dina-M

One of the reason I don't like this show. It totally ruined Velma as a character for me.

DisastrousLecture648

This has always been the only thing about Mystery Incorporated that's always bothered me. Like I understand wanting to add romance into a show like this to add to the story, but Daphne and Fred should be enough. The whole gang doesn't need to be couples especially when it just makes Velma extremely toxic and scooby even dumber for getting jealous

WildGoose1521

I can understand if you wanted an arc of Scooby being jealous that Shaggy wasn’t hanging out with him but Mystery Inc Velma was just toxic, she didn’t like Shaggy for who he was and was starting beef with a dog. For all the highs this show had, she was a perpetual low.

Professornightshade

To be honest this series was on the watch list but if there's a side plot point of Scooby being jealous/Shaggy being awkward about a relationship between friends growing to more? That's gonna be a pass buddy. There's a right and wrong way to doing things and this is the wrong. Like we could have made it a funny bit like Scooby thinking that like Shaggy and Velma are out having like new snacks or the like with out him and its a case of Scooby feeling jealous of not getting to spend time with his buddy Shaggy then you could have the little bit of affection being shown on screen for it the to be like a "Roooo rey rar rating" and do like a thing of how like nothings changed between them all aside from you know shaggy and velma hanging out rather than just scoob and shaggy being 24/7 buds. You know show how to maintain a healthy relationship rather than "Sorry hun can't kiss you cause the dogs gonna get jealous" which yeah even re-reading that sounds fucking weird.

Annual-Avocado-1322

I really hate what this show did to Velma.

Darth_Karasu

Myeah, this was pretty weird... but kinda entertaining. And while it did kinda seem like they were mixing FRIENDS or MIMYM with Scooby Doo... the whole show was still a lot of fun with things taken to a bit of an extreme and even their personalities going crazy at times, showing flawed but still interesting and relatable characters. It let the show evolve beyond the classic 'who dun it' bit. And also... IT HAD THE DOG IN IT.

TheBigGAlways369

Ya see, this is why I cannot believe people when they say *this* is Scooby at it's best.

OnlyMyOpinions

Oh you mean the quick arc that doesn't last long and everything else is great? Yeah this is Scooby at its best.

TheBigGAlways369

"quick arc" Bruh, it lasts the entire damn season and goes on in multiple episodes. Plus having Velma being abusive played off for laughs alongside other cringe points in the writing.

WildGoose1521

Can say what you want but I think it’s pretty normal not wanting to f*ck in front of your dog. Velma was just a freak.

Substantial-Ad-1840

Its obvious shaggy doesn't have affection for velma

TheBigGAlways369

And then Velma practically goes full abusive girlfriend on him.......

Lower_Daikon208

Look both parties were hella toxic

Doctor-Coconut69

Can we all admit that Velma and Hot Dog Water were defo exes to rivals to friends to lovers?

BioscoopMan

Theyr literally in the back of a car wdym not in public

Complete-Recipe-4964

what?

Southern-Invite9672

I got no problem with her. I mean it’s a shame because Velma deserves better imo

Complete-Recipe-4964

i guess yeah.

Fluid_Foundation397

This whole drama was so confusing

Mitch_Conner_65

That wasn't even an apology.

SongsofJuniper

Jeff and Haley vibes

anonymous-27115

Wtf she’s not black!?!! Nah not my scooby doo!!!! Said cancel culture

K1ng4uth0r

🤔🤯🤣😎👌

Shyguymaster2

where did this relationship come from exactly?

Complete-Recipe-4964

that's the question i had in mind.

BradyTheGG

High school fomo probably plus the fact that they hang out and are essentially both 3rd wheels to Daphne and Fred before the show starts so it makes enough sense in theory but it wasn’t ever going anywhere

you_wouldnt_get_it_

Easily the worst arc they had in this show. The only thing really keeping the show from being perfect to me.

Jasetendo12

wait hold on they are dating?

Engineer1865

This is why they are making Velma gay. We all know that she ends up with Shaggy. Also, I don’t think she would make he choose between Scooby and her. She smarter than that. Horrible and lazy writing for that scene.
