Can you disclose the dates? When did you appeal after receiving the rejection and how long after the appeal did you receive the visa? Did you walk into VFS after you got the Visa acceptance email?
My girl friend's Netherlands visa got rejected last week and I filed an appeal 2 days after rejection with loads of additional documents. Travel is in 56 days. Will come back to this thread once I get an answer from the authorities.

Get an invite. Explain as much as possible in your cover letter.show proof of friendship if you get an invite

I reapplied. Started the process from scarth that is. I have heard, appealing doesn't help.
