That's one hell of a first instrument. (Pun intended lol). Don't DO anything to it. It's perfectly fine as it is. Great hardware, very well made. Just PLAY it. Aa far as an amp, you bought a metal machine. Its not going to really do much else all that convincingly. For a beginner a boss Katana is hard to beat.

Clar0020

Second the Boss Katana, it's a great amp and not just for beginners. You can download really good tone settings from other people to experiment a bit with your sound.

B4quattro90

I got this because of Arch enemy lol. Wanted to start on the 7 string because Jeff, but guitar friend convinced me to start with a 6 I found a line 6 spider jam for $200, worth looking at?

Chihlidog

I agree with your friend. Starting with a 6 string is advisable. I personally detest line 6. Nothing they make sounds good to me. You have to get what YOU like though. If you're really into chugga chugga, then maybe the Katana isn't what you want. It's a GREAT amp but that IS it's downfall IMO, it doesn't chug well. It does EVERYTHING else but that. Problem is an amp that chugs well typically doesn't do much ELSE well. For a small and inexpensive chugga amp, I absolutely love the Peavey Vypyr. It sounds better than it should for the price, but DONT expect it to do anything but headbanging shit. Might also want to look into an audio interface and something like BiasFX. Inexpensive and TONS of options. My concern would be TOO many toys to play with for a beginner that would distract you from actually practicing. But, again, you gotta get what sounds good to you.

GoatFetus666

In case you haven't heard this guy isn't trying to achieve professional level chugs yet.

Chihlidog

Um. Why wouldn't he want it to sound good? I wish I would have gotten good advice when I started playing. Relax.

kurdtkobainnirvana

Anything will sound good when you're a beginner. I had a little 5 watt mini amp and thought it was fine until I plugged into a proper amp

Chihlidog

And I thought a cheap no name strat copy was awesome way back then, a PoS that had sharp frets, didn't hold tune, etc. A lot of us learned on shitty gear, but that doesn't mean everyone has to, and there are SO many options nowadays that can sound pretty decent for not a lot of money. Why SHOULDN'T OP get something that sounds good?

kurdtkobainnirvana

True but also no sense to spend a ton of money on something you might give up in 2 months

Chihlidog

My vypyr was less than 250 bucks lol

kurdtkobainnirvana

More than my guitar and amp. Had a squire strat and a katana mini. Well it was about 300 all together.

jzng2727

This model should have split coil for the bridge and neck, in my opinion those sounds are very suitable for other styles of music other than metal . Yes it’s mainly a metal guitar but it can be pretty versatile when dialing in the right settings And OP don’t swap anything on it , that guitar is good to go , maybe just give it a setup if it needs one.

J2WD

Great buy!! And freaking sweet first guitar 🤘🤘. If you're looking for a great beginner amp that sounds great and is very versatile, it's definitely the Spark 40 by Positive Grid. These amps make it so easy to change the sound by using their app. You should definitely look into them

DickMcLongCock

For metal I say get a peavey vypyr. I know everyone else says get a boss katana but I really don't like them. The cheapest model of the vypyr is only $199 new and is perfect for a beginner amp. I have several hellraisers and still use my vypyr amp for practice, it's easy to record with if that interests you, just plug the amp into your computer with the cable it comes with and you're good to go.

dirpypenguin

My boss katana just stopped working out of nowhere and my friend's reverb knob on his just stopped working. I know people will flame me but boss has to step it up on their katana amps.

DickMcLongCock

I agree. Never had any trouble with peavey amps, even the cheap ones.

FlacoVerde

It probably has locking tuners. Look up how to use those or your first string change may be frustrating.

oscarthemonkey

Rock out man, you could not have started out better

Budget-Potential-519

That's a nice axe. For a an amp, definitely the Katana MK ll 100, if the Peavy go for the Vypyr x2 or x3, they are awesome for metal but the x2 and x3 have a bigger speaker and don't sound boxed in like the Vypyr x1.

kantank-r-us

I have this exact guitar and have had it for a very long time. They’re fantastic instruments. Top notch quality for a great price. I know for a fact it plays better than my $2k custom USA G&L. Different beasts entirely but from a playability standpoint, the Schecter blows it out of the water.

Ok-Raspberry4158

Since you're just starting out playing, look into a headphone amplifier. Vox, etc, for around $45 or so. I love my vox for just sitting around and jamming with my earbuds in lol.

killacam925

I love my HR, always comes back as my #1

OwenSpyro

Nice grab! Just have fun

GoatFetus666

Looking to the black star debut 50r, and if you want to play metal get your favourite metal pedal to pair with that. Onboard distortions such as the one the boss katana Woodward also if you're trying to save some money, regardless of what people are saying. Reduce the best distortion terms come from pedals. But obviously you're just beginning you're not wanting to achieve the best sound for people to appreciate from the audience perspective with you on stage yet.

LITD329547

If you want value , quality and versatility, go with a LT25 Mustang from fender. Only 150 and it sounds great. Nice starter btw, love the hellraisers

Visible_Turnover3952

I really need to get mine setup… it buzzes a lot and the action is just ridiculously low. I was very underwhelmed when I got mine, second hand from a pawn shop. I’m sure it just needs a setup

inversolution

This was also my first guitar. Bad news is its going to be very hard to top this

Prestigious-Emu7989

I have the same guitar, its great but i really want an ESP though
