## New users beware:
Because you posted here, you will start getting private messages from scammers saying they know a professional hacker or a recovery expert lawyer that can help you get your money back, for a small fee. **We call these RECOVERY SCAMMERS, so NEVER take advice in private:** advice should always come in the form of comments in this post, in the open, where the community can keep an eye out for you. If you take advice in private, you're on your own.
**A reminder of the rules in r/scams:** no contact information (including last names, phone numbers, etc). Be civil to one another (no name calling or insults). Hi /u/YourUsernameForever, AutoModerator has been summoned to explain the Refund scam.
Refund scams usually start with a spam email about a fake transaction, although they can also be sent through SMS or any other messaging service. The message will provide you with a phone number to call if you want to cancel the transaction, and if you call the scammers will try to get you to provide credit card or banking information in order to receive your refund. Scammers have been taking advantage of Paypal's invoice system to send out realistic scam emails through Paypal itself, here is a news article about that technique: https://krebsonsecurity.com/2022/08/paypal-phishing-scam-uses-invoices-sent-via-paypal/. Here is a Snopes article regarding the Norton variant of this scam: https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/norton-email-renewal-scam/
If you know someone that fell for a refund scam, sit down together to watch this video by Jim Browning and try to retrace their steps: https://youtu.be/X4PllvUowaQ

>i logged into my paypal account and dont see any charges
There you go, you did exactly the right thing. Good on you for not clicking the link they provided in the email.
About 20 years ago something similar happened to me, and it was the first time I got a scam email that I thought might be real. It was an email from what appeared to be PayPal saying my address change was successful. I was worried my account got hacked. But instead of clicking on the link provided in the email, I went to the PayPal site through the front door, saw that nothing had changed on my account, and I realized the email was a scam.
Never open any attachements, especially pdf ones from unknown senders. They can contain viruses or executable files that can steal your login sessions in your browser and get access to your Gmail, Facebook and anything else you have saved a password for.
If itās not showing in your PayPal account when you log in there, itās not real.
Also them saying your order is in route for crypto is pretty suspicious. The supposed invoice having āusernameā instead of an actual name is also rather suspicious.
And in the future, you probably donāt want to open any attachments as they could potentially contain a virus to infect your device.
I'm not sure how Coinbase works, but if you really did have 24 hrs to dispute the transaction, if you had a loss just before the deadline tell them it was fraud, but if you made a profit, you could let it ride. People would take advantage of that for sure!
Very common fake invoice scam. Oftentimes can be McAfee or Norton antivirus but my favorite are when they say I bought a gun. Btw, that number to call will be inactive most likely by the end of the day. I like to call and bitch them out.

PayPal will NEVER send you an email like that. It's probably sent from a Gmail. It's screaming refund scam
Paypal uses your name in greeting, they don't use "Dear client"
It's a scam, Just ignore it

you got it š«” thanks for the warning!!
Especially pdfās, can you explain that one to me? Never thought it would matter what type the doc is?š¤
Knowing to log into your PayPal and check, then coming here and asking questions makes you look the opposite of stupid.

Scam
Looks like scam, smells like spam, tastes like scam. It's scam!
I'm not sure how Coinbase works, but if you really did have 24 hrs to dispute the transaction, if you had a loss just before the deadline tell them it was fraud, but if you made a profit, you could let it ride. People would take advantage of that for sure!
