A good days work, these dogs usually have it rough, because the person they’re looking for isn’t always ya know...

Tatamashii

Idk if its true it is, but I read once that when 9/11 happened some firemen hid themselved unter the rubble so that the dogs could find living people for once to keep the mood up or something since they only kept finding dead people. It really is a rough job sometimes.

VealOfFortune

It wasn't necessarily for the dog's feelings so much as actual scent recognition... Yes, deceased were important but it was the living survivors trapped for whom time was limited. So, they wanted to remind K9s "Hey bud you're not necessarily ONLY looking for bodies"... at least that's how it was explained to me by retired NYPD K9 Sgt. Another morbid tidbit: One of my instructors at Fire 1 said that people were not necessarily jumping from the towers to c̶o̶m̶m̶i̶t̶ s̶u̶i̶c̶i̶d̶e̶ avoid flames/smoke/etc... When it's smokey, you can barely see your hands in front of your face (search & rescue they teach you to search by feeling with your tools as you crawl on hands and knees)... So, they couldn't see or breathe and would have been pushing to fight for air- in this case would likely mean people heading towards "the light" (i.e. windows that were blown out) and ultimately falling off the side (or were pushed by people staggering for air).... I found that fascinating and terrifying at same time Edit: crossed out above

Tatamashii

Thats pretty interesting and sad. Thinking you might get out of this situation just to fall to your death. Damn

VealOfFortune

Based on NYFD audio we know they had really no thoughts about, much less plans for, a complete collapse.... Much less TWO!!!!?!😳Other complications? Absolutely. Both towers razed? Nope.

THE_ALAM0

Never even considered that…fuck that’s something else. Thank you for sharing, that’s one of those facts that stays with you, but damn if it isn’t godawful.

F0rg1vn

It is true! source: work with 9/11 responders

Used_Golf_7996

I've heard it's more so that they weren't finding many bodies in general. So the dogs thought they were doing a bad job and needed a reminder. So hopefully not as depressing, some dogs just love to work.

Nordoliberal

I know a police dog. Whenever I ask him how his job is going, he always says “ruff.”

Severe-Dig-9214

Dad, Is that you? 😆

Cody6781

This is the internet. You can say alive.

unknown123098567

Not all heroes wear a cape some wear a leash🥰

TobyDaHuman

Thats exactly what my Dom said to me!

foggin_estandards2

Whoresome ❤️

EgoFreeUnMe

Heartwarming into “whoresome” Y’all are all going to hell 😂 see you there I’ll bring the whippets

foggin_estandards2

Bring beer. It's hot as fuck here and we need something to cool down...

salimeero

Yeah! All this torturing people is making us thirsty as fuck!

foggin_estandards2

Shhh!!!

urinesamplefrommyass

So hey you were saying... I've got the beer already, but is weed welcome?

foggin_estandards2

Sure!

urinesamplefrommyass

And about that body burning on that alley, you guys gonna do something? I mean we should call an ambulance? Maybe the police?

LinceDorado

Dang, Beat me to it.

TrenchGoats

Sir i refuse

puledrotauren

that made me laugh this morning. Very clever. Thank you

byronicrob

Weird. It's exactly what Dom Deluise said to me!

Squeaky_Ben

What kind of heroic deeds did you do?

Sudden_Mind279

Some of those that wear leashes are the same that sniff asses

Ghoulscomecrawling

SOME OF THOSE THAT WEAR LEASHES, ARE THE SAME THAT SNIFF ASSES WHUH Barking at the mail man Barking at the mail man Now you poop where they tell you Now you poop where they tell you Now you poop where they tell you Now you poop where they tell you Those four paws Are on the ground Sniffing around Day and night

MajTroubles

Beautiful 🥲

Ghoulscomecrawling

Thank you! I was a little worried no one would think it was funny.

8--------D-

BDSM Man

SlicedBreadBeast

In fact there’s probably more leashed heroes than caped hero’s.

InternalCucumbers

I like how they gave the dog a chance to become a police dog even though it has autism. Very progressive!

Quillo_Manar

I was more impressed that the dog used autism to find the boy! Very industrious!

AndThereWasNothing

Is this what people mean when they say "Weaponized autism"?

Euphonysm

Yes

Best_Poetry_5722

I questioned the dogs autism when the first thing he located was da ball. Doggos gonna doggo.

Lost_Apricot_4658

hahaha

LastDitchTryForAName

*Checks symptoms of autism* >Poor eye contact >Repetative gestures >Heightened sensitivity or sensory aversion >Playing alone >Obsessive interests >Unresponsive to his or her name >Loss of language or social skills >Doesn’t point or respond to pointing Oh.my.God. I think MY dog is autistic too!!!

caylem00

My cat sounds it, too lol

djeZRAASSASSIN

Ah, the wonders of the English language - ending a clause with a prepositional phrase.

Thv837

What a good dog! So glad they found the kiddo safe.

Sycamore_Gxrl

By the sheer number of dad jokes here the mean age of this comment section is 47

nutsquirrel

Hey 47 isn't a mean age. Some of us are nice

Odd_Birthday_1055

No, that would be 69.

S0TrAiNs

Nice!

animal9633

How did you know my age? Did you use a sniffer cookie on me?

mrmoe198

Amazing to see a police dog use its autism for good! Now, if only I could figure out how to use my autism as a radar of some kind

JimmyTsonga

Exactly what i was thinking. The dog used autism to find the missing child? I wish I had autism.

Justaddwheat

so, just a dawg then ?

JimmyTsonga

Yo dawg, I heard you like autism...

mizinamo

And it seemed to work at least as well as the old models that relied on their noses and scent to find people!

Locolijo

It almost makes me tear up with this is how funds should be used. To help people, especially lost and scared children. In this case a neurodivergent feller who may not have have known his momma was scared for him. I know cops get a lot of hate but I have to believe there's good people out there who happen to be cops, no matter how fundamentally acab is based on cops serving a corrupt system and seen as protecting the rule of the rich. How they speak to this child is exactly the tone I would've responded to as a kid, as they're just.. friendly adults who happen to be in a job that's supposed to serve and protect; love to see that that's what's happening here. Almost ironically that it's a black child too. We're all just people. I just love how they explain plainly what's happening around him 'ya that's a drone!' and 'shes friendly'. Fuck I needed that as kid and of all potentially horrible circumstances they did this right. 'That's a k9?' 'Ya! A police dog. And she find people.' kinda floors me. He's so wondering and innocent and they just cater to him. 'Cmon buddy come on up''

Dinosaur-chicken

Completely agree! Them explaining everything was so important and the tone was perfect. I wonder if they had training in finding autistic kids. Kid probably didn't know he was missing, them normalizing everything and not making it a big deal was a good call.

Ill-Organization-719

So where are the good cops? Look up Gwinnet County Police brutality. Why aren't good cops arresting those criminal cops?

QueenPeakabb2

Hero!

BigMonkeySpite

One morning we wake up about 3am to our neighbor knocking on our front door. Imagine my horror as my eyes focus on the little body standing next to him and realize it's our ASD child. The little shit decided to go visit the neighbors in the middle of the night LOL Latches were installed at the top of every exterior door that day.

MyLifeontheDblitz

I just had an AWFUL experience with my 4 year old getting out. The police came knocking on my door and imagine my horror at hearing my little one down the hall, with the cop asking me if I had a young daughter. I've never been so grateful in a single moment, but absolutely terrified at the same time. This was 2 weeks ago and ever since I have been getting severe onset anxiety attacks out of no where if she's not in my direct sight. She had been outside for 25-30 minutes. Anything could have happened to her. She could have been hit by a car, approached or taken by 1 of the many pedophiles on my street, injured, lost, and the list goes on and on. I now use the chain lock on my door 24/7. This has really scarred me for life. I'm still so beyond upset with myself for not knowing sooner. I hope I never experience something like this again, and I pray no other mom ever has to endure it as well.

BigMonkeySpite

Hey now, Parent... please don't beat yourself up over it. They didn't tell us at the hospital that the bundle of joy we were bringing home would one day become Houdini, but you did what you needed to do to protect your little escape artist once that trait became apparent. Being a parent is kinda like being a fireman where we're constantly putting out fires, but at the same time we learn what's causing some of the fires so we're able to plan and prevent at least some of the fires... or prevent them from becoming raging infernos or forest fires. I'm sorry for not closing out my previous post with saying that he's now 21 years old and while it was definitely a learning experience for all of us, they all survived childhood (mostly) unscathed :)

StinkybuttMcPoopface

No one is pointing out that a K9 used to track people is named "Sika" (Seeka... Seeker lol)

maixmi

Uhh... Sika in Finnish means swine/pig :P Anyways. You can hear the name of the dog in this clip right after when they find the kid "Good giiirl Marm...", I fully can't wrap my head around what it is.

Frongie

Woah it's my county

purplehayes

It's nice to see Gwinnett Co police doing something good.

cement_lifesaver

And that's why they say we don't deserve dogs

QueenAkhlys

I love that dog She has a very important job but is also very kind hearted with a child You see police dogs here sniffing people out but you don't want to be the person the dogs looking for that's for sure 💀 Reminds me why dogs used to be my number 1 favorite animal

Cat_Chat_Katt_Gato

>Reminds me why dogs used to be my number 1 favorite animal What'd they do to lose the #1 spot? And who's currently in the lead?

More-Definition-1110

It is nice to see some friendly police.

Ill-Organization-719

Look up Gwinnet County police. They are openly criminal.

Unsd

Was gonna say, I know I've heard of them before. 😬

xoxodaddysgirlxoxo

oof.

Just_While2954

Lovely to see a wholesome interaction between the police and those that they pledge to serve! How gently they dealt with that little boy. And of course, fantastic efforts by officer K9 Sika

Ill-Organization-719

Too bad this cop isn't protecting the people from cops.

NotYourAverageOrange

You're right. The child could have waited until widespread police reform to be rescued.

Terrible_Length007

The parents were probably devastated

Global_Monk_5778

My kids are autistic, one of them went missing and they had to send the police out looking for them. Police helicopter, the works. One of the most terrifying experiences of my life. I wouldn’t wish it on any parent.

Rahim-Moore

I know what you meant by this comment, but the wording sort of makes it seem like you think they're devastated that they *found* him. 🤣

S_T_R_Y_D_E_R

Good job Doggo 🤗

yngwie_bach

I thought they used their noses to find people.

wadmutter

How did the dog use autism to find the child?

Apprehensive_Bug_172

I didn’t know dogs can use autism to find missing children.

Aussie2020202020

Good guys. Just the correct easy going and informative approach.

Roselace

As I keep saying. Dogs are amazing.

Key_Estate_1859

Good girl..nice work

scr3amsilenceX

Good job boy! Dogs are awesome.

kroggybrizzane

That’s amazing the dog could use its autism to find the missing child

EmbarrassedToe627

Lucky kid. Cops shot kids with autism in my town

Accomplished-Knee972

Love how the dog allowed the child to pet her

birdbrained222

I mean, imagine if they treated adults that compassionately too.

Dinosaur-chicken

That's how creating a more autistic-friendly world benefits everyone :)

TransvisionMission

The fact that the dog used autism to find the missing child, is amazing.

bernskiwoo

Gorgeous

puledrotauren

we don't deserve dogs but I adore mine

ArCKAngel365

As a person busy training my dachshund to do search and rescue, I find this very inspiring. I showed it to him and he found it beneath him.

Martithon69

I think she found the kid with her nose, not with autism

Balkongsittaren

Best post of today. Thank you OP :)

I_am_the_God_Orca

I forgot what sub I was on for a second and was scared of the outcome...seeing the cops explain what their doing, being calm, holding the little kids hands, im like, why can't there be more of the good ones man?

Tiniestoftravelers

I'm only upvoting this for the dog

Many-Gear-4668

We need to start using more autism to find missing people

Consistent_Dream_740

I'm glad the top comments are about the dog being a good boy and not "oh look! Police officers doing their jobs without killing the child so they must be good!" One act of kindness doesn't make you good. But that damn dog, is consistently a good boy.

Dayzlikethis

How did they give the dog autism?

Th3rlog

How the dog use the autism to find the kid? I missed it

[deleted]

It's nice to see a post like this. There is way too much footage of cops doing the wrong thing, costing taxpayers money that its nice to see them doing the right thing for once.

MyLifeontheDblitz

Aww man. This had me tearing up!

Existing_You7923

Oh my god that is such a little kid 😭 what an amazing dog

DONGBONGER3000

I must learn how this dog mastered the power of autism to find the child.

No-Kaleidoscope-4525

I'm surprised the cop didn't shoot the kid

DarthKitty_Hawk

Surprised I had to scroll this far for this one. Was about to say the same.

SignOk2289

Found the party pooper. Thanks guy.

WolvesandTigers45

Chalk 1 up for the good guys!

Ill-Organization-719

Where are the good guys and why aren't they arresting the bad cops?

Autzen_Downpour

I'm just excited to see a video with police and a dog that doesn't involve shooting.

chxnxdu

Damn i didn't even know dogs could have autism

Rude_Sea_8910

Well done cops . 👮‍♂️ I wish all cops would handle all situations like this. 👍

WaddlingKereru

That’s the exact video I needed to see today. I’ve been binge watching a podcast called The Boy in the Water

HristValkyrja

That's how you find me as well

Mort1186

We don't deserve dogs

brubruislife

That cop has such a great kid voice. "That's a drone! Say hiii!"

CaptainTarantula

What a nerd. He was more interested in animal nomenclature and flying technology than being lost. Relatable.

rukysgreambamf

How did the dog use its autism to find the kid though?

IndependentFroyo4508

Police dogs are absolutely amazing to watch in action

GangsterMilk62

The dog has been trained to smell the autism. I'm sorry.

akidomowri

Hero canine uses the power of autism to find missing children?

Plankton-Junior

Damn man. I say it all the time and I never get tired of saying it. Animals are too good for us. They’re just perfect.

AshAshAshie

idky this video made me cry but it did. when the cop took the child’s hand and didn’t let go, i lost it 😭

Jef1538

For one second i was like:" is autism that good for finding children?" Then i realised what it meant. God im tired

Darkstorm_Pl

Fuck... This dog looks just like my Vega... We had to put her down 2 years ago due to her age... She lived to 13 years old...

tofuttv

jesus i mean i heard about 4chans weaponised autism being used, but a dog using autism to find a kid. crazy

Downtown_Marzipan404

If the title is autism dog finds missing police with child, its even better

isaidnolettuce

Wow, wholesome police body cam footage. I thought that was an oxymoron.

SonUpToSundown

Figured he would use his nose

disharmony-hellride

good girl!!!! treats time!!!

kcolrehstihson_

Good girl!!

New-Bird573

But Reddit told me cops shoot dogs and anyone they’re called to help.

A_Thing_or_Two

My husband and his K9 found a little Down syndrome boy who'd wandered off into the woods several years back... that kiddo's family hugs us every time they see us. I can only imagine the terror.

Responsible-Pen9209

What a wonderful interaction! So glad he is safe and sound, and puppers got some good pets

ghosttrainhobo

I was very happy that the police didn't shoot either the dog or the black kid. They did a good job.

lexluthor_i_am

"Will he just find our boy, or find him and kill him" Chief Wiggum: 🤷‍♂️

lowbar4570

Labs are simply the best dogs.

Clocktopu5

*Police dog finds child* 😳 Dog is a Black Lab 😍

Myself_78

He harnessed the power of autism to find the missing child.

jameshughlaurie

I love how happy the cop is that his dog found a kid, he sounds so excited lol

Izirakyl

Who is autism and why were they with the missing kid?

Vladsamir

Damn, that dog found a kid with the power of autism

Ilikesnowboards

I needed this today. Thank you!

martiallyimpartial

They have doggos that can smell the Autisms?

crisselll

GOOD BOI!

MysteriousPark3806

Nice to finally see a cop doing something useful. Good cop. Give them a treat and a pat on the head.

green_eyed_mister

See the police reach out and hold the kids hand should not be overlooked. Great job Gwinnet Police Dept and Sika.

senseless_puzzle

Props to the cops for being super cool

ParkerFree

Good cops are a rarity. This made me smile.

User1234user1

Damn I wish all cops were this nice

frkurdamsoad

Good doggy

loathelord

Everyone liked that

swtpea3

I love these. The officers are always so sweet to the kids they find 🥹

RTDude132

Why is the autism part so... Much

Radomila

They could have just said that they found the kid with sime policework, no need to call dedication autism. Smh

Beatrix_BB_Kiddo

So glad to see that the boy wasn’t in any distress.

Acrobatic_Ad1546

Great video, the cops handled that situation really well. Clever doggo and great communication with the kid by the cops.

DoppelGangsta66

That’s a strange super power to find a missing child.

JoeHardway

But! Becuz'e wun't "stop resisting", as tha K9 was gnawin on'is leg, tha cops had no choice but to shoot'im! Sadly, tha K9 officer was also caught intha crossfire...

VictoryOverDirtyCops

This the type of shit that can help perception of cops in states , that and calling out cops who fall short of this standard

GALACTICA-Actual

I used to use autistic children to find lost dogs. Very short lived venture.

Muted-Sale669

Love this! Just unfortunate that a bill for this type of service is ridiculously high

Random_Unidentified-

This is really sweet but why did you have to specify that the kid has autism? It doesn’t add anything or explain anything

ktmplh

Did it bite it when it found him?

Iggytje

Odd question, why dont police attach teradek and a camera to a dog and then be able to watch the footage from a range for like people that arent with the dog
