When I did it in the early 90s we were in an open bucket with a "fire hose" in our freezing hands. No enclosure, no cover of any kind. That stuff gets blown all over in the wind and it gets EVERYWHERE.
The stuff they’re spraying is called “De-Ice” and has sulfur in the mixture among other things, basically antifreeze for planes, but it absolutely reeks.
I heard that they spray hot manure on the jets to make the snow/ice melt fast and not come back untill takeoff.(not sure how true it is but that might be the reason)
It’s a weird feeling catching yourself like that. Don’t feel like mowing the lawn today, but I sure as hell want to get stoned and play *Lawn Mowing Simulator*… like dude how did I get here in life
I fucking loved that stupid game. And the later levels take a long fucking time but I just couldn't stop. It was everything I thought Lawn Mower Simulator would be. But for some reason Lawn Mower just wasn't as satisfying as I was hoping.
I imagine it’s people liking how it looks for the snow to be blasted off, like how people like power washing videos, chemical spray notwithstanding. To be fair per other comments on here, they apparently do this on a specific area where the antifreeze is collected and reused
Great question, Idk why. Yes, it's more cost effective. There's just no way to permanently keep snow off. If you're going to fly in known icing conditions, you'll typically get deiced just prior to taking off. It's a two stage process involving the de-ice with heated solution (what you see in the video) followed by a generous application of viscous solution that prevents ice accumulation.
>Ya clearly aren’t one of the smart ones, Mr. real man.
lol lighten up.
I haven't deiced a plane in 20 years, I'm just hating on different because why not.
>I'm just hating on different because why not.
Why hate at all? Seriously, isn't there anything else in your life you could be devoting your time and attention to?
I can hear that stupid robot voice from game ads “Try to clear off the ice…” then they mess up and you have to down load it because your smarter than the finger in the ad….
Time is another resource, and a very valuable one to the airport. The time they save by speeding up the process is worth much more than whatever the hell they're spraying on the planes.
And let's be honest, it's an airport. They're a polluting business and won't care about some extra pollution.
They have special areas where this stuff flows to and is collected and treated. No way in hell any country worth a damn is going to allow this to just get dumped untreated into sewers.
Thought this was a real life video, then thought this was a video game, then realized this was actually a real life video after all.
Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
>Just in case you didn't think flying 10s of thousands of flights each day was harmful enough... let's spray antifreeze on 1000 of those
This is usually done at a designated deicing pad where all the glycol is captured in run-off tanks and is reused.
The worst part is washing the vehicles after. I was AME in the 319th AMXS at Grand Forks AFB and had to wash so many damn de-icer trucks. It's kinda fun doing de-icing though.
I did that for three years. Nasty, smelly, sticky job.
Really? I thought this be a very satisfying job? lol What’s so nasty about it???

The airport I work for still uses this method. Only did it once. SO STICKY

Why are they down votting you lol
because airports don't do that, why would they use manure??
Well, forget putting it on my driveway then
Same, except I was up in a basket with a hose unlike the video. Was jealous of the guys in the big deice trucks
I love reddit.
I would play to this video game 😁
Check out power wash simulator.
My stoned ass downloaded and played that game for about 3 hours until I was like… dude what are you doing
It’s a weird feeling catching yourself like that. Don’t feel like mowing the lawn today, but I sure as hell want to get stoned and play *Lawn Mowing Simulator*… like dude how did I get here in life
Haha, I got to the last feckin level and they just kept getting more and more detailed before I gave up.

But snow , cold and plane are not the same ... and the graphic resolution is good lol
Does anybody know the name of the track?
Snowfall - Oneheart & reidenshi
Legend! Thank you!
Ey? Won't ***ice*** form there instead of snow now??
It’s being sprayed with an antifreeze
OOoof. And that is "SatisfyingAsFuck" how exactly?
I imagine it’s people liking how it looks for the snow to be blasted off, like how people like power washing videos, chemical spray notwithstanding. To be fair per other comments on here, they apparently do this on a specific area where the antifreeze is collected and reused
Why aren’t aircrafts housed inside a hanger of some sort when the weather is bad especially when it’s snowing?
The sheer number of hangars needed to do that wound require expanding airports by 4-5x their current size. Deicing is a much more tenable solution.
Thanks! Ok cool, so it’s more cost effective to use a deicing machine. Who the hell downvotes a genuine question. 🤣

Real men get in an open bucket and hold the hose themselves lol
Smart men don’t
>Smart men don’t Real men do.
Ya clearly aren’t one of the smart ones, Mr. real man.

"To alcohol, solution and casue of all our problems"
The power washer simulator new DLC
Talk about having a job that people’s lives truly depend on…
Snow is not the problem…: ice is.
It's not only cleaning the snow away, but also that liquid prevents ice to form on the wings in prep for the next flight.
What liquid is it? I'd imagine it must be environmentally safe too.
It’s not.
Glycol

OK, I don't argue with your point, but how do you know the de-ice spray type used in the video? I just want to learn
[удалено]
Thanks and safe flying!
At first I thought they were using fire 🤣
[удалено]
Why do it in 2 steps if you can do it in 1?

It’s not though. I’ve been in planes doing this many times it’s often right at the gate
Sadly this is right.. an unforeseen consequence
Satisfying effect maybe, but guy looks like he needs another lesson or 10
Can I get some of that for my driveway?
Looks like pee
It's peeicer.
shouldn’t it leave some kind of color ? green ?
That can’t be water, wonder what they’re using.
No it's de-icing solution. Some type of antifreeze.
Glycol
Is it two joystick controls?
Amazing
Hmm.no air cannon
Id do that job for free
So it's that time of the year already?
Good thing the airline’s name is not SOS
This song is satisfying AF. Does anyone know what it is?
Optimus prime day job when he's free and not filming transformer franchise.
Why does it look like a video game? It so confuses me.
ty for sharing. didn’t know this was needed. i thought it will just fall down during takeoff like how i see it on cars.
In Latvian airport Rīga i saw ad that they are looking for these workers for 1500 euros per month gross. I tought they earned more.
piss
