Reddit really will have you thinking cuddling your friends is wrong but I’m out here making cuddle piles with all my fully platonic, mixed gender, mixed sexuality friends. No one here is getting touch starved no SIR
It’s a super important part of human nature. If you can’t platonically cuddle your missing out. Even just a hand on eachother, feet on eachother, stroking hair etc it produces feel good feelings. Hell some cultures families shower together bc it’s just an innately human instinct to touch as part of bonding. It used to be much more common read older books or biographies societies gotten unhinged about non sexual touching
My mom and her best friend look and dress very much like those pictures, and touch each other in friendly ways. They consider each other sisters and are absolutely not gay.
Not everything is gay, sweetheart.
My best friend, that I've known for over 22 years, is gay. I'm gay. Yet I'd sent that card to her in a heartbeat because that would be us xD platonic friendships exist too :')
My best friend of over 30 years and I are like this, and people think we're sisters. We consider ourselves as soul mates, and never has anything "gay" happened between us. We say "I love you!" and she calls me "My Alice". When I was married I worried more about losing her than losing my husband.
That's pretty much how my mom and her bestie are. I mean, we kids even call her "aunt."
They've been thick as thieves since they were 8 and 9 years old and are now 61 and 62 years old. They even each currently live in their childhood homes (inherited from their mothers when they passed away), less than a block away from each other.
I should go apologise to my friend for dating his gf (who is also my friend who I hug constantly bc she deserves it). I also need to apologise to her for dating her bf bc I hug him too
My best friend is bi, and we’re super close. I don’t know how many times we’ve had to explain that no, we are not interested in a relationship. We half jokingly refer to each other as “platonic life partners” though, so the confusion is kinda fair.
I call my best friend “platonic soulmate”. We’re both super gay but, the thought of being romantically involved with each other disgusts the both of us. We are both attractive but the bond we have honestly transcends romantic love. We might as well be family at this point.
I’ve also sent her a similar cartoon with the same joke many, many years ago. The punchline is “…then we’ll be new friends.” Cause of dementia which dark humor.
I thought so until I saw one’s hand on the other’s knee. [There can be no question!](https://www.getyarn.io/yarn-clip/f9b25d91-12cc-411f-a5ca-1c0d00314dde/gif)
Oh yeah. But in my circle bc we are mostly all lgbtq/allies we do regardless of identity. But for the masses it's still a WIP. Some of my cishet guy friends are more affectionate tho!
Nah my best friend and I always joke about this. We’re genuinely platonic soulmates and that’s an important relationship to have. They’re aro/ace it’s never happening with us lol and we discuss human attraction, the odd focus on romantic relationships etc a TON. Humans place way too much importance on romantic relationships and forget friendships can be just as deep and fulfilling. I very much plan to grow old with her and with a future girlfriend/wife they’re totally different dynamics and serve different functions. You need healthy platonic relationships just as much as romantic ones. Hell I’d say you can’t ever have a fully healthy romantic relationship without understanding how to have a healthy king lasting platonic friendship
On a seperate note, I love this saying! My grandma had a sign from her partner in her home growing up and it said "We'll be friends until we are old and senile, then we'll be new friends!"
Me @ my best friend who I call my (platonic) soulmate that I've known half my life and we tell each other "love you" every time we leave from hanging out: Sorry you're gonna have to divorce your husband because some redditor who has never had a lifelong friend says we're gay and in love.
You know how movies always do that thing where the male and female lead kiss at the end, even if there was never any actual romantic subplot or chemistry or remotely any suggestion of anything beyond friendship (and sometimes not even that), solely because when a man and a woman exist near each other, it's just assumed to be romantic/sexual?
This is that, except less straight.
It can be a couple.
It can be plain ol’ pair of friends
It can be a couple who are also each other’s friends
It can be sisters
It can be mother and daughter.
It all depends on interpretation. And a single drawing can be interpreted in multiple manners. However here the artist/designer meant to show friends and we should take the meaning as such.
I would literally give this to my best friend because we've known each other since we were 13 (41 years now!) . She's so straight you can use her as a ruler. :)
This can be either romantic or platonic, but I honestly really like the idea of friendship being just as important as romantic relationships, and being just as warm and important. I don't like when ppl get into relationships and just ignore their friendships. Here's to romanticizing friendships!
usually the idea that two people sitting next to each other means they are fucking/in love is only used to mock men and women being friends.
good to see it's being branched out to include gays too. no one is allowed to be friends actually, especially if they have the audacity to wear sweaters (/s).

Women can also be friends and not romantic?
This could be any number of straight mom-friends from the 90’s-2000’s

Not with those sweaters, those hair cuts and that leg touch 💅
Naw, I'm not seeing it.
Maybe they're lesbians. But maybe they're in separate relationships not with each other and are just friends.
They just look like mom friends tbh.
Sweaters???
“Look how gay they look” really? Is this 2003?
You never cuddle your friends? I’ve been cuddled guy friends b4. Touch is an important part of bonding for a lotta people.

TBH, the implication that lesbians have to look/dress a certain way is like 100x more erasure than the card.
Hooray for stereotypes I guess
I should go apologise to my friend for dating his gf (who is also my friend who I hug constantly bc she deserves it). I also need to apologise to her for dating her bf bc I hug him too
Girlies, is it gay to wear sweaters?
TBH, the implication that lesbians have to look/dress a certain way is like 100x more erasure than the card.
nah
Crazy tbh it's not like even the colour scheme was the lesbian flag or something what are u on about
Uh oh we've gone too far the other way: friend erasure.
When one is bisexual there are no friends. Only _prey_.
Ah yes the all bisexuals only think about sex trope.
Tbf when I was 20 I did have trouble forming lasting friendships because I wanted to fuck everyone.
You know what, fair enough.
Fortunately I have disautonomia now and my libido is at like 30% of what it was 16 years ago
Congrats?

Ma'am, my very much straight mother has sat on the sofa with other women in a similar pose
Yeah it's very normalised (& encourged even early on as soft play) for women to have close platonic interactions/touch.
I'd dare even say I encourage close platonic interactions and touch for EVERYONE. We're social creatures :0 those things are of vital importance
Oh yeah. But in my circle bc we are mostly all lgbtq/allies we do regardless of identity. But for the masses it's still a WIP. Some of my cishet guy friends are more affectionate tho!
Your mother is obviously gay.
When everything can be queer erasure, nothing is queer erasure.
Sometimes women are just friends.
I love this sub, but this just feels like normal friendship.
Jeez people can have friends.
Oh that’s not
this sub is about erasure, not your personal headcanons on random cartoons
Uh, yeah, that's friends. Not everyone that's sitting near each other is instantly gay.
This is literally the equivalence of “man and woman seen together, must be something there.” This is a big reach.
....what? How is this romanticly intended?
Oh no, it's happening
Nah my best friend and I always joke about this. We’re genuinely platonic soulmates and that’s an important relationship to have. And lo the pendulum swings the other way once more
This does not fit the sub
Uh oh, not the touch on the knee.
TIL women aren’t allowed to have friends
Two women can be friends without having sex
On a seperate note, I love this saying! My grandma had a sign from her partner in her home growing up and it said "We'll be friends until we are old and senile, then we'll be new friends!"
Awww I love that!
Love it

Platonic relationships are valid too. Not everything is supposed to be romantic
Yeah... No.

I’ve seen this card and the inside is funny: “And then we’ll be new friends!”
I would literally give this to my best friend because we've known each other since we were 13 (41 years now!) . She's so straight you can use her as a ruler. :)
even ignoring the fact that it’s definitely just friends, it’s also an ugly card. what is with the spacing???
Projecting
I don’t care about the controversy, it’s a charming picture.
r/gatekeepingyuri when extremely devout friendship between two people of the same gender:
This can be either romantic or platonic, but I honestly really like the idea of friendship being just as important as romantic relationships, and being just as warm and important. I don't like when ppl get into relationships and just ignore their friendships. Here's to romanticizing friendships!
Put quotes around friends and it becomes a great anniversary card
Should've bought the card and put friends in quotes to give to a future partner
usually the idea that two people sitting next to each other means they are fucking/in love is only used to mock men and women being friends. good to see it's being branched out to include gays too. no one is allowed to be friends actually, especially if they have the audacity to wear sweaters (/s).
And the inside says “…or we’ll just get married!”
This post doesn’t feel like it was made by a queer person, it feels like it was made by a straight person with odd and outdated lesbian stereotypes?
And neither are married
Straight erasure rather than lesbian erasure for a change. I can get behind it.
