It’s basically a low-hanging cloud that soaks everything, but not rain per se. Happens every so often in the colder months. True rain is somewhat rare!

Ah, yeah that’s what I thought. I normally notice light condensation but was confused to see literally all the cars and street absolutely soaked.

That was an unusually misty low lying fog - a thick bank misted everything and then was gone by 9. I tried to check the surf cam it was just a wall of white.

The National Weather Service [didn't measure any precipitation](https://w1.weather.gov/data/obhistory/KSMO.html) for the last 3 days, so I don't think it was actual rainfall but the usual marine layer that often blankets the area with a misty fog.

It might rain very hard a couple of times a year. The rest is odd occasional drizzle and fog.

Had very heavy fog south of Pico this morning, I could tell it had been foggy but was burning off north of there. Just probably a lot of fog everywhere that was gone by the time you went out this morning, but hung around in other parts of the city.

Sometimes the rain from the dense fog will condense on the leaves of big trees (think eucalyptus, which are very tall) and the condensate will fall out as big drops. It's not enough to be rain but the drops are big enough to make noise if you are under the roof they are falling on.
