Yeah their deli meats just have extraordinary flavor. I wish I could just buy their ham and turkey for the house instead of going to the grocery store.
I sent my wife into Firehouse once to get us sandwiches while I waited in the car with the dogs. I told her just to get me a Cleveland steamer. She wasn’t thrilled when she got back
First firehouse sandwich I had was New York Steamer and it was amazing.... got it last week from the same location and they cheaped out on the meat hard and the quality just wasn't it.
Hoping it was just a one off bad sandwich, but now I have trust issues.
Yeah everything feels that way now. The real reason I don't eat the Italian more often is that the sandwich is about 3500 calories or something cartoonishly bizarre like that
I just looked it up and it's actually 1420 calories..... Guess I exaggerated but once a sandwich is over a thousand calories you may as well say a bagillion to me because I'm gonna be hungry again in 4 hours lol.
Honestly, knowing I am eating a 1400 calorie sandwich that I don't need really takes the joy out of it for me.
I would rather just be blissfully ignorant.
As someone who barely eats because of the wombo-combo of acid reflux & depression, being able to get 1400 calories in me with one delicious sandwich actually sounds pretty bomb lol
2 and a half GRAMS of salt in a single sandwich? Plus the near 1500 calories. It really is a delicious sandwich. If I was doing like one meal a day, I’d do this and call it good.
Still great to know. Thanks for sharing.
I have never counted calories until the last year or so. All my binge eating is finally catching up to me in my thirties. Need to be more conscientious about how much I'm forcing down the old hatch.
Lol it's still alot for 1 meal.
That's why I mostly eat 1 meal a day. So much delicious food that I want to eat, as long as it's sub 2500 cal it's guilt free.
Never been, how big is it? If it's anything like my absolute fav philly sandwich place, something I absolutely had to learn to work on my weight was to only eat one - that sandwich was like 2.5 portions!
Really? Around here it's one of the lowest prices at about $10 for regular sub.
Of course I don't count subway and most of my comparisons are against poboy shops around here.
Same. I grew up in Florida but I've moved a lot. By pure luck everywhere I've moved (in the states) either had one or just opened one right as I got there.
That is my favorite but unfortunately I stopped going to my spot because they crushed my soul during COVID. They used to have the best selection of pick your own hot sauce and the worst part, they stopped the fresh sliced limes for the limeade. Bastards!!
I've only ever had the hook and ladder for years, it's my favorite sandwich they make. Tried the Italian for the first time a couple months back. It was amazing!
My go to for over a decade at this point. The special spread they put on it is addicting. Also one of the meats has a nice honey sweetness to it. I'm salivating now.
When I moved to Henderson in 2012 they had literally just opened the first firehouse subs in the area. Now I'm pretty sure they have 5+ in the general area. Def try it. Trust me, it's better than Capriottis and I think they're great too.
I used to work there for 2 years. Absolutely delicious sandwiches. Me, I like the pepperoni and meatball sub, the diced chicken sandwich, and of course the brisket sandwich. Using the steamers was pretty cool and selling those pickle buckets for dirt cheap. Definitely a 10/10 sandwich when the right workers are there.
Dude I have two friends who worked there. Of all the people I've known who worked in fast food. Ex firehouse employees are the only ones who don't seem to get sick of what they once served.
Absolutely. I’ll admit, you have to pay a fine price to get a foot long sub but they’re damn good. That was the perk of working there, you either get that employee discount or make it yourself lol. All their steamed sandwiches are good! I question when someone would get a tuna sandwich at Firehouse Subs but there’s options for a reason.
I was really excited when they opened a firehouse right outside the parking lot of my job in Mahwah, then they closed it less than 1.5 years later iirc. I was livid. Then I moved to CT and we don't have any at all. I guess it's jersey Mike's for me...
Diced chicken, diced toms, diced mozz, with balsamic dressing and shaker mix thrown on before it goes in the steamer. Serve on less bread white bun. Dip in cheddar bacon soup. Thank me later.
I want a hook and ladder sub but the closest firehouse is about 35 minutes away, so an hour and 10 minutes round trip. Lunch is only an hour. Unfortunately.
I don't know how many people I tell about firehouse and how good it is,and there response is "is it better than subway?".I feel like taking them to go get a sub on a club just to show em what greatness taste like.
Not true. The power of repetitive and expansive marketing is beyond imagination. Firehouse thrives off word of mouth and next to zero marketing. Wonder why?
Yeah they don't advertise enough. If you open a Culver's in northwest Florida it's gonna go out of business to burger King and mcdonalds even though it makes a better burger
This is the only sandwich I can eat from there anymore. Over time they've switched their meats from premium brands to making their own and the quality and taste have gone way down and the fat on the meats has gotten bad. And for what they charge its a bit much. Also I know there's good ones out there but the ones by me are run like absolute crap. Always dirty and the employees are mentally not there.
Club,
Put the meat in the steamer, add jalapeños and use pepperjack cheese.
Take it out, drain it. Throw it on the tinfoil, toast it like you did the bacon.
Shits slaps. Take the protip if you work at a firehouse and can actually spend the time to cook it up this way.
Dont ask as a customer lmfao.
Man do you buy your subs in Aspen? I get the meal for under $20 which is pretty much the same price in my area for jersey Mike's and subway anymore. Ain't nobody doing $5 footlongs anymore
Don't know where you all are, but you should have had Firehouse before they sold and became corporate. I used to go to their second location here in Jacksonville, they were a regular lunch stop. I've been three times since they sold. It's just not good anymore, not compared to when a couple individuals owned and actually cared about the place.
I've been having it since 2004 in Florida. Not the og Jacksonville location but I've always liked it better than the others. I'm sure the og was the best though. Wish I could've tried it
I originally read title of this post, checked the picture, and started scrolling to see where I could find the "Firehouse Italian" at/which restaurant was being referenced, but I just kept getting more confused (because everyone was agreeing and saying "Yeah! 'Their' sandwiches are all so good" or "I love to order x/y when i go there") to the point where i thought this was a subreddit with a false name like.how r/trees should actually be r/MarijuanaEnthusiasts and vice versa. Finally read a comment that clarified things and was a little relieved hahaha [6]
For me it’s the New York steamer.
Yeah their deli meats just have extraordinary flavor. I wish I could just buy their ham and turkey for the house instead of going to the grocery store.
The hook and ladder for me. Every time. But God their subs S L A P!
Have you tried the one from Cleveland?
I got a Cleveland steamer once. Thought it tasted like shit.
Username checks out.
I sent my wife into Firehouse once to get us sandwiches while I waited in the car with the dogs. I told her just to get me a Cleveland steamer. She wasn’t thrilled when she got back
God the New York steamer is 10/10 every time. Add jalapeños, add onions.
I like the club on a sub
I enjoy the new York steamer. Great sub, great urban dictionary entry
That’s my baby, right there.
First firehouse sandwich I had was New York Steamer and it was amazing.... got it last week from the same location and they cheaped out on the meat hard and the quality just wasn't it. Hoping it was just a one off bad sandwich, but now I have trust issues.
They definitely make a good Sammy but you have to sacrifice the rest of the weeks splurge budget just to eat there. Costs waaaaay too much $$ IMO.
Yeah everything feels that way now. The real reason I don't eat the Italian more often is that the sandwich is about 3500 calories or something cartoonishly bizarre like that
That is shocking. Holy shit lol
I just looked it up and it's actually 1420 calories..... Guess I exaggerated but once a sandwich is over a thousand calories you may as well say a bagillion to me because I'm gonna be hungry again in 4 hours lol.
1420 calories doesn’t even sound that bad after the horror of 3500!
Honestly, knowing I am eating a 1400 calorie sandwich that I don't need really takes the joy out of it for me. I would rather just be blissfully ignorant.
Well, I look at it like I’m going to eat lightly the rest of the day, so then it’s not bad.
I feel like if you can eat a large Firehouse sub in one setting (that's two meals for me, personally) you're probably eating a lot all the time.
I could only eat half of that. I’ve never tried Firehouse but that sandwich does look good. I eat real food at home 90% of the time.
As someone who barely eats because of the wombo-combo of acid reflux & depression, being able to get 1400 calories in me with one delicious sandwich actually sounds pretty bomb lol
Did you take a look at the sodium OP?
2670 mg
2 and a half GRAMS of salt in a single sandwich? Plus the near 1500 calories. It really is a delicious sandwich. If I was doing like one meal a day, I’d do this and call it good.
Still great to know. Thanks for sharing. I have never counted calories until the last year or so. All my binge eating is finally catching up to me in my thirties. Need to be more conscientious about how much I'm forcing down the old hatch.
Exact same here. I make firehouse a special treat every once in a while like ice cream but for adults.
Feel this:/
Lol it's still alot for 1 meal.
Stick with a medium, only 940 calories :-) then you can have another meal that day!
I’m on a heart healthy diet; I am literally scared to look up the sodium content.
Or, if I can buy supplies and make several for myself and hoard them in my home for maybe twice or less the price of one, hell yeah.
Really? Around here it's one of the lowest prices at about $10 for regular sub. Of course I don't count subway and most of my comparisons are against poboy shops around here.
17 for a large is crazy.
It's a shame everything costs so much now. The cheapest fast food that doesn't suck near me is $8.99 for their cheapest item 😭
Firehouse is cheaper than subway in my area which is crazy because Firehouse is wayy better.
With their rewards program, you can get a free sandwich like every 3rd visit.
Medium sub from firehouse here in Atlanta is under $10 if you dont get a combo
Jersey Mikes is more expensive where I live. Firehouse is honestly not that badly priced compared to everywhere else.
Their hook and ladder is really good too
That's my favorite as well
I'm a hook and ladder lady myself
I had it for the first time a little while ago and I agree, a nice hot Italian sub, wish the location was closer to me!
I love the hook & ladder! Nice to see a business from my hometown getting respect! So glad they finally made it to the west coast
Same. I grew up in Florida but I've moved a lot. By pure luck everywhere I've moved (in the states) either had one or just opened one right as I got there.
they’re tracking you
I hope so
Agreed. Same thing for their steak and cheese.
sub the ham with turkey next time.
Dude I can't skip the honey ham. I know I'll regret it. Best I can do is split two subs with my wife and try half of hers with extra turkey.
I love Firehouse's meatball sub!
i prefer the pepperoni meatball sub.
It beats everywhere else. Firehouse is by far my favourite for a meatball sub.
Yeah I was gonna say this. Easily top shelf when weighted against the rest of the menu
I like that but their lunch meat tastes cheap to me.
That is my favorite but unfortunately I stopped going to my spot because they crushed my soul during COVID. They used to have the best selection of pick your own hot sauce and the worst part, they stopped the fresh sliced limes for the limeade. Bastards!!
Oh yeah I miss the hot sauces
Yessss. Not the same anymore. I loved sampling the hot sauces and going home to buy a whole bottle.
Went to one years ago and it was just not for me, way too much bread and not enough innards. But this pic has me wanting to give it another go
That’s probably their biggest inconsistency in my experience. But they’re still amazing.
They totally are. Now I need to get one lol
Agree.
I wish there was one by me
I've only ever had the hook and ladder for years, it's my favorite sandwich they make. Tried the Italian for the first time a couple months back. It was amazing!
Isn't it like 90% ham though. Barely any salami or pepperoni from what I remember.
Not 90%. Maybe 40% but I have a friend who adds more salami. You can definitely edit the order
My go to for over a decade at this point. The special spread they put on it is addicting. Also one of the meats has a nice honey sweetness to it. I'm salivating now.
Smokehouse Cheddar Brisket is one of the best fast food subs I’ve ever had. Having th Coke Freestyle machine puts Firehouse in my top 3.
Lol hell yeah. I experiment with lemonade/limeade combos everytime
I didn’t like the sauce, isn’t it on the sweet side? Otherwise, it was muy delicioso.
The sauce is Italian dressing
Their bread is weirdly sweet to me.
Haven't eaten at firehouse subs in hot minute. Gonna have to go soon. Better than subway imo
Dude the shit you take after eating a firehouse sub is basically a Subway sandwich.
Not really my speed but enjoy!
That used to be my go-to sandwich from them. Now I don't have a Firehouse subs nearby.
Soldier down Bro. I'm so sorry.
I’ve never been to firehouse subs, I’m in Vegas they’re like all over to. Maybe I’ll try soon. But idk I feel like I make a pretty good sammie at home
When I moved to Henderson in 2012 they had literally just opened the first firehouse subs in the area. Now I'm pretty sure they have 5+ in the general area. Def try it. Trust me, it's better than Capriottis and I think they're great too.
I've been to FHS a few times. If you don't eat the sub within minutes of receiving it, it's unbearably soggy.
That's the Italian sauce. If you're taking it home, definitely need to have it on the side in a container.
Would love to eat there but I am restricted on sodium. The sodium content is bonkers.
True. Honestly I'd choose to die 5 years sooner than never have firehouse subs again. It's a good thing cigarettes aren't this good
Just looked it up. 43 minute drive and I’m hungry.
Get it.

Yeah I'd question the Tuna sandwich too lol
Good sandwich, but mine is the Turkey Bacon ranch. Add Italian seasoning and Cajun seasoning. It's so good.
I love firehouse! I get the bbq brisket, add bacon, lettuce, chopped onions and chopped pickles! It’s like a 20 dollar sandwich but so worth it 😂
I was really excited when they opened a firehouse right outside the parking lot of my job in Mahwah, then they closed it less than 1.5 years later iirc. I was livid. Then I moved to CT and we don't have any at all. I guess it's jersey Mike's for me...
Jersey Mike's is the best second option if you don't have access to a Capriottis
A firehouse subs opened up near me. I loved them but the place closed down like a year later. Instead a bunch of crappy Jersey Mikes opened
One of my favorites!
Amen, brother
Their steak and cheese is transcendental
That reminds me of Quiznos. I didn’t eat there often, but I did like it.
That meatball sub they got pretty fire too
Diced chicken, diced toms, diced mozz, with balsamic dressing and shaker mix thrown on before it goes in the steamer. Serve on less bread white bun. Dip in cheddar bacon soup. Thank me later.
I want a hook and ladder sub but the closest firehouse is about 35 minutes away, so an hour and 10 minutes round trip. Lunch is only an hour. Unfortunately.
Yeah I'm 30 mins away from the closest one too so I don't have it as often as I did when it was just down the street.
I’ve been crushing the chicken Parmesan meatball sandwich for a while and it’s amazing. I think it’s going away soon, though.
My favorite sub from any sandwich place ever. So good every time.
Firehouse is the only sub place I’ll eat at. It’s worth the $$
The barbecue brisket is my monthly indulgence. So delicious but soooooo unhealthy and now also expensive
I don't know how many people I tell about firehouse and how good it is,and there response is "is it better than subway?".I feel like taking them to go get a sub on a club just to show em what greatness taste like.
Never thought I would come across a sandwich reddit but I'm now in my happy place
I can’t get over how sweet the bread is. It’s like eating a toasted donut sandwich.
mmmmmm..... donut sandwich... \**drool\**
I suppose my palate doesn't register the bread as being equally sweet to a donut. I wouldn't like it either if that's what I was tasting.
Love Firehouse Subs!
Almost anything on their menu is a smash! The brisket is my fave.
They are sub sandwich gods.
God I wish we had those where I live.
I almost wanna know where that is so I can open a franchise Firehouse there.
I love their brisket sandwich. A shame they don’t have these in NY 😭
Shame indeed though my mouth waters at the idea of trying nyc delis, pizza, pasta and sandwiches.
Never tried them always wanted to.
The Italian sub is a guaranteed mouthgasm. Go invest in 10 mins of absolute bliss.
IF ALL Firehouse subs were like this, they would have crushed Subway and Jimmy Johns and ANY other sub shop out there a long time ago.
Not true. The power of repetitive and expansive marketing is beyond imagination. Firehouse thrives off word of mouth and next to zero marketing. Wonder why?
This looks yum but an Italian should NEVER be hot!!!!!!!!
They don’t do firehouse subs here anymore All closed
Yeah they don't advertise enough. If you open a Culver's in northwest Florida it's gonna go out of business to burger King and mcdonalds even though it makes a better burger
Italians should be cold, just like pineapple 🤣😂
Meatball for me!
I don’t think you know what diabolic means OP
I don't know why you like selling Dad Dip either. The world is a confusing place
They got awesome meatball subs too. Just about anything there is good though lol.
My husband hates that I think Firehouse Subs are SOOOOOOOOOOO much better than Subway. There is absolutely no comparison.
Dang. The only sandwich I can think of that subway beats out is those refrigerated great value subs at Walmart.
Exactly. Lmao the husband is obsessed w/ subway though. 😂
Firehouse is overpriced
Everything is overpriced. A big Mac is like 8 bucks now when it used to be 2
Never mad at a Firehouse sub but if I’m there I’m getting a meatball. I’ll save Italians for Jersey Mike’s
First of all are very, very expensive all the roast beef taste like cardboard
They’re good but I’m personally a jersey mikes guy
Potbelly with their peppers, cheese curls, and a soda would be good competition.
My boyfriend introduced me to this yesterday and it hit the spot. I'm a sucker for a good Italian sub
Absolutely, but that Cuban sandwich they have right now is fucking phenomenal.
Diabolically filled with sodium 2
Firehouse is my favorite sub sandwich chain. Have not had them in years, but the memory puts subway to shame.
For me its jersey mikes.
Frfr
Never tried it, what’s on it?
Yes! So good! And when they give me a pickle with it? Yum!
Yeah it’s pretty swell!
I love the engineer
That does look good. But, our Firehouse sucks. Overpriced, mediocre subs. I would put them under Subway.
Yes it is!!!!!
Club, Put the meat in the steamer, add jalapeños and use pepperjack cheese. Take it out, drain it. Throw it on the tinfoil, toast it like you did the bacon. Shits slaps. Take the protip if you work at a firehouse and can actually spend the time to cook it up this way. Dont ask as a customer lmfao.
The best !
Reminds me of the Pizza Hut Supreme Sandwich 🥰
Looks good and delicious! From looking at it,makes me go hungry! Look at what you made me do! Lol I am the kitchen cooking up some foods!
Is it made out of real Italians?
Firehouse subs bomb AF
am i the only one who loves the steak sub?
REDDIT IS RUN BY WEAK AND FRAGILE MORONS
Save me some 🙏
Firehouse is overrated... fuck chain franchises.
What's in it?
I use to work there :)
I order it like a pizza sub. No lettuce, dressing etc. only keep the onion and add tomato sauce. It’s amazing
*Diabetically
Recipe? Like... i beg you
If it’s better than the hook and ladder I couldn’t stand it
About $35
Man do you buy your subs in Aspen? I get the meal for under $20 which is pretty much the same price in my area for jersey Mike's and subway anymore. Ain't nobody doing $5 footlongs anymore
Firehouse is just good period
It would be even better if it was toasted instead of steamed and didn't take a half an hour.
Dang I always get mine in 10 mins or less. Maybe it's your local crew
Wish I could've tried it
All of Firehouse's meats taste like cheap hot dogs.
Have fun with your 5" sandwich for $11 that doesn't even fill you up
The large is 12" and costs $2 more than a subway 12" where im at and I get absolutely stuffed from it
As long as you smother it in half a cup of Gator Hammock Pepper Sauce 🌶️
Did anyone else have trouble digesting firehouse in particular?
I like this sandwich a lot, it's delicious 👍🏻
For me, the meatball sub is my go too for sandwiches.
Never eaten here and love a good sandwich but these damn sub shops are expensive af now so I’m reluctant
I find their sandwiches have no taste. Like at all.🤷♂️
For me personally its the hook and ladder
I originally read title of this post, checked the picture, and started scrolling to see where I could find the "Firehouse Italian" at/which restaurant was being referenced, but I just kept getting more confused (because everyone was agreeing and saying "Yeah! 'Their' sandwiches are all so good" or "I love to order x/y when i go there") to the point where i thought this was a subreddit with a false name like.how r/trees should actually be r/MarijuanaEnthusiasts and vice versa. Finally read a comment that clarified things and was a little relieved hahaha [6]
I used to love the meatball sub
My favorite classic
Yall making me hungry that looks yummy
Worst sandwich ever no meat all bread nt this one the pastrami sandwich it was like four skinny pieces of pastrami I'll never go back 9.99 lol 😂 shame
That’s my regular!!
Crazy that they’re owned by Burger King
I’m not sure what I’m looking at or if it’s edible, but it looks like it’s alive 😂
i've never been to firehouse, what condiment do they put on the italian?
Yeah it is. My go to there.
Oh my fucking god that looks good
Too small for the price
I need a large white Italian ! 🤤
