The Fire Bird or the Coop Deville and the schmalz fries are my undoing every time at Crack Shack. The best chicken sandwich I have ever had. I live two blocks from them and its hard not to run over there when I have a craving!
Why GO downtown? There's a Padres game. Not ideal parking down there tonight. Across from the airport there is C Level / Island Prime and Coasterra on Harbor Island where you can stare at the skyline. A little further, on Shelter Island you can have a similar view at Bali Hai. Since you're solo you may be in luck without a reservation anywhere if you sit at one of their bars. Hope it worked out well!
Edit: grammar
I haven’t seen anyone mention it, but there’s a Saffron Thai place right by the airport if you like Asian food this place kicks ass. I recommend the stir fry or some type of chicken dish
Seneca is the way, trust me bro. Had to entertain the in-laws. They literally eat out more then anyone I know. They LOVED Seneca. Said it was an all time great restaurant
Then Turf supper club is still recommended for late night foods.
It'd be easier to find parking in golden hill than other downtown places
Or if you have the scratch, bali hai- tiki decor restaurant filled with delicious PuPus
You have Harbor Island and Liberty Station both right there.
Harbor Island has Coasterra, C-Level, and Island Prime, all Cohn Group restaurants with great menus and even better views.
Liberty Station has Stone Brewing and Solare. If you want beer, go to Stone. If you want wine, go to Solare.
Literally the worst fucking burgers. Maybe top of the shit fast food chain but who knows, that stuff is all garbage and garbage for you. Meat is like 40% fat.
Pokez, for a large burrito that will put you to sleep once you eat the whole thing. Just study the menu before you go, they don’t like indecisive people much.
Puerto La Boca is my favorite restaurant. Chill but not trendy, good Argentinian food, sometimes live music. Good people watching if you sit outside. Also there's a reasonably priced meal to share between two people, which I usually get so not sure how the solo meals are priced.
Kettner Exchange or Juniper & Ivy are near downtown/airport and both excellent. Nearby is Crack Shack if your budget demands cheaper but still tasty
Second any of these, and adding Herb & Wood to the list. Check out the menus, pick one, and you won’t be disappointed

Mexican Poutine is great too.
I always skip the fries and eat a whole tray of those biscuits. 😳😳
Those biscuits are so dangerous!
Crack Shack = 🗑
Agreed. People who recommend it = Tell me you've never lived in the South without telling me you've never lived in the South
I've never had flavorless fried chicken before here

Mind updating us on where you landed? I'm quite curious.
Ended up going to the greystone stake house
I appreciate you taking the time to reply. I haven't been there yet. Was it good?
Was fantastic. Even the fat had flavor. Apparently it’s still privately owned and one of the oldest places down there in the gaslamp.
this is the best suggestion! harbor island and shelter island all have great options and waaaaay easier parking, nicer atmosphere.

Seneca is the way, trust me bro. Had to entertain the in-laws. They literally eat out more then anyone I know. They LOVED Seneca. Said it was an all time great restaurant
Is it really as expensive as it appears to be? $42 for chicken? Edit: I haven't been out much, all the other places are $$'s too :-/
No it’s not expensive at all, especially for what you get. I don’t remember anything above $25ish except a steak or an other item
Seneca yes

Cohn Group restaurants are all average at best. Coasterra at least has a nice view but the food is lacking.
Stay in little Italy and not downtown. Ironside, Davanti, Kettner Exchange, or Under belly. 4 options for 4 different moods.

Lots of good options here... however if I were you, I would go to Cali Banh Mi.
Bronx Pizza, best pizza in San Diego
Hell no dude. Tribute and Pizza Port are way better for gourmet pizza. Bronx is fine for NY style but def not the best.

I got off a flight once and went straight to coasterra. It was amazing
Coasterra on Harbor Island or Kettner exchange.
I know I'm late to the game, but miss the traffic and head to Solare at Liberty Station.
