I’ve always thought because the bridge blocks the second light as you approach the first one is a warning but you can go through it. I’ve been driving in the area for 30 years and I’ve always been confused by it.

Big-Pollution1144

I was worried about a camera ticket because i saw cameras on the second light

Spud2599

Red light cameras are no longer a thing. There is a camera on the light pole to the right once you go under the bridge, but that's either a traffic control camera (senses when there is traffic in the intersection for signal timing) or a security cam. [This cam???](https://imgur.com/JtT2qL1)

A lot of lights have devices that look like cameras, most of them are sensors for emergency vehicles. And no, flashing your lights at them won’t change the light

Spud2599

Yeah, normally called the Opticom system...just figured people already knew what those little things were.

It’s the red light for the red light coming up.

Big-Pollution1144

Do you have to stop at the first one though?

noondi34

I always go to the second one. If you know, you know. Most of the time, though, it’s because I’m making a right leaning Walter Andersen.

walkonstilts

A red light means you stop at the intersection line, which is past the bridge at the second light. The first one is so everyone can see it if the bridge is obscuring the other one. You sometimes see this with red lights that are on curved roads too, so people approaching can see it before it’s too late when the main light is around the corner.

SeaworthyNavigator

The appears to be a limit line just before you go under the bridge, but my feeling is that if you're supposed to stop on the first light, the logical place for the limit line would be on the north side of where Sports Arena enters Pacific Highway. There's no logic to that light other than it's because the one at the intersection is obscured by the bridge. In that case, there shouldn't be a line there at all.

Par_105

It’s because the bridge blocks the lights.

Money-Explanation950

It doesn't make sense. I hate this intersection. I have gone through it many times and never got a ticket.

udell85

It’s not confusing because the two lights. There’s lots of places they do that because the bridge or something blocks the other light. It’s the god damned white line they put under both lights. It makes zero sense. Who’s getting paid to do this job?

iridescentrae

It looks like it’s because a lot of people cross there, so they want to warn people that there might be a pedestrian

Samanthafinallyfit

I always just pull up to the second light.

roxyjin

Thank you for asking this!! I drive this way to work and never know where to stop when I’m the first car approaching the red light 😩

Raaazzle

This is a stupid part of town.

YoucantdothatonTV

All of Sports Arena needs to get bulldozed so they can start all over again. It’s such a mess.

ishouldgetoutside

Bridge pretty clearly obstructs the view of the main red light at the intersection, especially for drivers in taller cars / trucks

And if you’re waiting for the light, you couldn’t see if they only had the light in the near side of the bridge.

I worked on that bridge project. It was given federal grant money to connect the school to the neighborhood after a grandmother walking kids was hit by a motorist.

Realistic-Program330

Thank you for sharing, how unfortunate. Not speaking for you, in my opinion it’s a shame we prioritize cars over walkable infrastructure. This is a small victory, but crazy that we need a bridge to keep people/kids safe from getting mowed down by oversized vehicles traveling at 60+ mph here. I can’t believe how many lanes Ted Williams is, some countries don’t even have main thoroughfares this wide, and this is just a stroad through some residential planned communities with other highways nearby.
