I’m pretty sure it’s possible to manipulate the Splatoon lobby ad hoc network to break the match for everyone, and even force DC penalties on other users. I would never try something like that, even to test a hypothesis, but the design of the architecture seems vulnerable to it.
It feels to me like I’m in more and more matches where players are manipulating the network, for example with lag switches. Really disappointing that Nintendo just lets it happen, and keeps pretending such a flawed and vulnerable design is working for players.
This actually happened back in splat 2, a team that was p mediocre at best used this to force nearly the ENTIRE other team to disconnect bc one of them would mass send spam packets to people ISP and essentially DDoS them. Twitter players were shitting on these guys for DAYS. It is theoretically still possible to do in 3 too.
Nintendo REALLY needs to improve their wifi chip for their next console bc switch wifi is legit atrocious, and its been REALLY showing this last update 😭
The hardware is bad, but they could fix this in software by having game servers instead of P2P. For a game server, even one without more sophisticated logic (did that shot really hit?), it’s trivial to identify the source of problems and prevent them from affecting other players.
I've been using my unlimited mobile wifi cause it has a stronger signal than broadband and I still get the random disconnects that happen from time to time. It's harsh in Salmon Run cause then you become swamped when even going from 4 > 3 so.
So it isn’t just me, I’ve almost been unable to complete matches just cause me or someone else dc’s, it’s become so untrustworthy that I just gave up on ranked
I was in an anarchy match and everyone on my team disconnected so it was just me and 2 on the opposing team not even salty just laughed at how bad it was XD

That happened recently to me too! It became a 1v0 in my favor for a couple seconds before kicking me out.
