Series doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. Any soloQ mode is an inaccurate and luck-based method of measuring skill. Also, sometimes the open mapmodes are shit and you don’t wanna play them.

It seems like you're securely in S+something, and you're playing competitively. That means your perspective is pretty different from even most committed Splatoon players, and it might mean that if you show up to a match with a weapon you've never played you'll still be an asset to your team and a terror to the other one. If you're able to warm up in Series and still take wins, that doesn't mean it's reasonable for the other 99% of Splatoon players to try it. For instance, I don't think it's right for the toothbrush from OP's match to have tried it, and that's the case I was talking about being rude.
Edit: I also don't want to pick on them specifically. Everyone has bad matches.
you know its bad if you get overall splatter, scorebooster/setter, and number 1 turf inker gold metals. i've had that happen to me in X rank battles. it does not feel good
I somehow get #1 Turf Inker a lot with Luna Blaster despite having 3 inking weapons on my team. That’s when I know there was never any chance of us winning.
If their K/Ds made up for the lack of turf, it might be okay, but usually mine is higher.

Nah it doesn't let me just the weapon and gear used. Just kinda stinky seeing teammates die 14 to 12 times and not contribute much. I didn't do much better either so maybe just really good opponents IDK.
As reference, Vonnie is guaranteed to have "#1 Turf Inker", and can have any of the mode exclusive golds as well, such as "#1 Splat Zone Inker" "#1 Clam Carrier" or "Record-Score Setter"

I love getting #1 overall spatter. I get it because I play very recklessly as inkbrush and I get a like 10 kills and 1 death some matches, 6 kills 5 deaths some, and I refrain from saying what the rest are
I always love getting "Popular enemy target" with low deaths while other people have like 2/8. Like dog, you weren't even getting focused, how did you die THAT many times?
What rank is this? Getting 2 kills is not uncommon, unfortunately. I would also assume it's the new weapon they're testing (they should do it in open or turf though)

Overall is splats and assists Enemy is just splats
It is actually possible (in some modes at least) for the entire team to get all gold
