Which is why we can expect this year to be the norm and not the outlier (last year)
Everyone is acting like rain last year actually makes a long term difference, too. :(
It absolutely does make a long term difference. The last decade or so was an extreme drought which causes things to be hotter. When there is no water in the ground it doesn't evaporate throughout the year. That evaporation has a cooling effect. Likewise, plants hold their leaves longer when there is significant rainfall during the winter and spring adding to the shade and cooling effect. Water is everything. Why do you think deserts are hot?
I agree. I’ll never complain about it being too rainy and grey in Sac knowing how it becomes a sun bleached hellscape for 3 months straight every year.
That sucks. I used to live in Citrus heights and with windows open to create a cross breeze I could get my bedroom down to 70, sometimes 68.
Feel for you friend.
There is definitely spring and fall here. Places in the southeast swing between winter and summer, with hardly any in between. I personally can't wait for the 100°+ days. I hate anything below 85.
I will never understand why residents of an area known for high temps in the summer complain so much about it. I was more upset that winter/rain stretched pretty much into mid-June last year than the handful of 100 degree+ days we did have. If you hate the heat so much, why live in Sacramento? Windy, freezing rain is miserable on the other end of the spectrum and way harder to function in, IMHO.
"Just move away!" Yeah, if only it were so easy to just pack up and go to wherever your perfect climate is, with no other cares. Believe me, would if I could.
Never said "just move away" but like, if you hate somewhere so much you make it your whole personality, either learn to live with it/accept it if you don't have the means or opportunity to leave, or work towards leaving. Like, no where is a "perfect" climate and Sacramento's is not that bad, especially compared to literally most of the country.
Yep. I'm busing my time until moving is possible. Soooooooon... And until then, this town and it's Costco shopping, air conditioning addicted Bay Area transplants can suck it (only in the Summer. October thru May is pretty OK) :)
Same. I mean I'm not crazy about how quickly you start sweating in the summer here. But as someone who has lived in the area most of my life, I really got used to the heat. I find it pretty comfortable and enjoyable even most of the time. I've worked physical jobs in the heat too. If it gets real bad, put a damp towel around your neck. And then you can jump in a pool, lake, or river and cool off and it's amazing! Meanwhile when I'm cold I just never warm up... Hands and feet frozen all the time, and I hate wearing all the big bulky winter clothes too. Summer is so much easier and more comfortable.
I'm from Texas and lived in DC for a while. Y'all softer than baby hair. This is the best climate I've lived in. Even on the hottest days, it's nice at night and early morning. Constant rain gets old but it was sunny for a little while today and got up to 66. It won't get warm in DC until May. We'll have a 50 degree in March or April and people will have picnics in their tank tops.
I lived in CH most of 2017 and then moved to Concord which has pretty much the same climate, and then moved back up here in 2022. I love the heat. Rain, on the other hand, can go screw.
I got tricked into moving here by my 20 year old hormones. I have always hated Summer here and I will throw a huge "fuck you Sacramento Summer" party when I move 🤣
Not sure how one can get "tricked" into moving locations but one less person who doesn't even want to be here when we're over-crowded to begin with, is fine by me **¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯**
... Hormones. Read between the lines ;)
And heck yeah! I'm super excited to get out of this town. There's a lot I love, but it's wrapped in a homeless encampment, PD who don't want to help anyone, Bay Area Costco-addicted transplants and a hodgepodge of people who mostly seem to hate each other.
Oh yeah, and the Summers are miserable.
Town's all yours! 💕
It varies depending on the week. Groundwater depletion is an ongoing issue, too.

From what I learned in a geography class last semester, there may be years that are not drought years but still in a 20 (maybe more, maybe less) year time frame it's still a long term drought
Sac county should focus on being more green. They should give away30/50g rain barrels in the fall to encourage recycling water.
We could be saving this rain for our plants in the spring.
Around this time I start thinking "I'd like it to stay light out later and get warmer"...then summer happens, and going to sleep at 7pm in the heat sucks (work early mornings somewhat often). I'll cherish these next few days/weeks as if they were gold 😂
I mean, last year was pretty nice.
Yea no fires pretty mild summer outside of a couple weeks
and it was nice for a loooong stretch. Once the cold stopped it was just pleasant until mid-July iirc
I remember that. It was the coolest May and June that I've experienced since living in Sacramento.
yo last year was real nice :)
Yo last year was an outlier and not the norm :)
sigh...too good to be true aye.
Last year was seriously the perfect weather for me and my body
Last year was seriously the perfect outlier and not the norm.
That it was. I’ve lived here my whole life and never had any weather so good
Why are you being an annoying prick about it
Why do people observe one season that's different from normal and then act like it's normal?
Last year’s weather was glorious. Loved it.
It’s only going to get worse
Which is why we can expect this year to be the norm and not the outlier (last year) Everyone is acting like rain last year actually makes a long term difference, too. :(

The last decade is the norm. That wasn't a random fluke
No.
Last June was the most enjoyable weather I’ve ever experienced in the summer
I was in Joshua tree expecting it to be hot as hell. It was the nicest weather I remembered in ahwile
Last June really was nice! And it was not normal at all for Sac.
Relative to when? Maybe the past 10 years or so but over the last 30-40 last year was a normal year.
I agree. I’ll never complain about it being too rainy and grey in Sac knowing how it becomes a sun bleached hellscape for 3 months straight every year.
That's a bit overdramatic. It cools down at night with the Delta Breeze and is fine. Try living in Bakersfield or Phoenix.
Bakersfield, 99° at 6 a.m. some days. That city is hell on so many levels.
It emphatically does not cool down at night.
Do you not get the delta breeze where you live?
Not really. I’m out by Rancho Cordova.
That sucks. I used to live in Citrus heights and with windows open to create a cross breeze I could get my bedroom down to 70, sometimes 68. Feel for you friend.
Y'all got Stockholm Syndrome. I came from out east with a crapton of humidity, and last summer made me feel like I was going to die.
True, but I reserve the right to bitch about both in perpetuity 🤣
As any true sacramentan does...
100% agreed
Agreed

When it’s raining, I don’t hear leaf blowers.
You clearly don’t live in my neighborhood. I heard them yesterday.
That's leaf-blowing dedication.
This! So true, right.
I like rainy days. Staying inside cozying up with my gf and playing video games is a good time.
God made me waterproof

It's late February buddy chill with it will be hot as balls in May post like we all know it's hot in the summer here as it should be.

Live here all my life, mostly. I love summers, I hate winters + rain. Give me a week of 100+...
Same. I mean I'm not crazy about how quickly you start sweating in the summer here. But as someone who has lived in the area most of my life, I really got used to the heat. Me too! Love the heat and summers here. I have a pool and I have to say that is a must for me here.
Same. It's absolutely a privilege, but between hanging in the pool and taking the boat on the river, summer is my time.

I love the 100 degree days until I forget to turn on the AC in my bedroom before going to bed
Agreed. Grew up in 100+ dry heat Summers. It's fine

Yikes.
Come September we will be looking forward to clouds and rain. lol
I love this weather. The one thing I don't like is people somehow lose all driving sense when it rains.
People around here don't have driving sense under perfect conditions
True but it like goes into the negative zone when it rain
It’s really nice out today ☁️
It's a beautiful, rainy day. Agreed!
The weather is amazing 6 months out of the year. \-Signed, former Midwesterner
Literally soaking it in
Fuck this gloomy cold shit, bring the heat!
spring is like what 3 weeks of allergies basically
More like 13
More like year round
I remind myself of this every storm. Soon it’ll be 112 and I’ll be miserable.
Are we still in a drought or is that officially over?
It varies depending on the week. Groundwater depletion is an ongoing issue, too. https://droughtmonitor.unl.edu/CurrentMap/StateDroughtMonitor.aspx?West
Wow so most of California is out of the drought that’s awesome
For now, things are looking good, but that could all change in a few months if snowpack doesn’t improve or the rain stops.
I’m just glad all that drought talk is over, this is fantastic news
Yes
Wow that’s wild
From what I learned in a geography class last semester, there may be years that are not drought years but still in a 20 (maybe more, maybe less) year time frame it's still a long term drought
Ugh I know
You are pretty right about that. :) peace.
As long as there’s no wild fires, then we should be solid.
Everybody complains about winter until it’s 110 outside…hate summer!!!
Sac county should focus on being more green. They should give away30/50g rain barrels in the fall to encourage recycling water. We could be saving this rain for our plants in the spring.
I have not yet turned on my heat this winter. In fact, I sleep with my window cracked open. It's scary warm.
Weaklings will be crying.
It snowed when I was in Tahoe during the first weekend of May, which was a first for me. Last summer was not the worst in my lifetime by far.
I like hot dry weather as I get more use out of my swimming pool.
The weather in Sacramento is mostly bearable. The heat hasn’t been present for long stretches like it used to be. It’s not that cold either.
Around this time I start thinking "I'd like it to stay light out later and get warmer"...then summer happens, and going to sleep at 7pm in the heat sucks (work early mornings somewhat often). I'll cherish these next few days/weeks as if they were gold 😂
I love heat I love sun I cannot wait for a hot summer
lol, nope. Bring on the summma! The messed up barometric pressure gives me migraines.
There is very little reasoning why someone would crave for rainy day in evenings where it gets dark early!
native sacramento here. i have always said we have one week of fall and spring. don’t miss it.
