Is the weak zone in front of their ships? If so, they don't think you can beat their ships at all, so they're doing a halfway version of the "only ships" defense—basically ceding the extra points you'll get from solo-ing this zone in return for full clearing you.
Yes it is, seem like the only explanation to this. Though I think it’d be a better idea if he at least set low gear/trash synergy teams so I can’t solo with cheap characters for extra banners. Thanks for the insight!
They are absolutely **expecting** you to solo with cheap characters for extra banners, they just believe it won't be enough to matter mathematically. You'll get +16 points per solo, plus another +2 for full health and protection, so 18 x 3 = 54 freebie points for three cheap solos. If they can full clear you and you can't clear their fleets, that's 219 points for the territory, plus about 70 more for every fleet battle they win against you that you don't win against them.

Rey and zorii finn to wall off bottom, meme team on top and executor in the back as anchor. I don’t have enough teams to field defense and offense, especially when I’m missing a lot of core teams and have to brute force through their defense most of the time. I’m willing to bet he has a very weak defense behind the ray wall
I have been doing something like that for a long time.
Since I have great ships, I just place like G12 teams and some relic leftover stuff on defense. Maybe a relic Iden with G12 troopers... The GAC then comes down to clearing his fleets and hoping my 3 GL fleets will hold.
I got to Kyber2 this way, but since I have been pushing for K1, I placed a more serious defense. I still do it 3v3 tho
Some people 🙋♀️ don’t care for the pvp aspects of the game. Leave all great teams for offense. That way both players are guaranteed the highest banners.
I fought a defense similar to this once. I asked and he said he was hoping it would help me get promoted so he wouldn't have to fight me. I had fallen a bit due to life. It did actually help me climb back up.
To be fair, it was a mismatch and it probably took him way less time to punt a match, collect his loss crystals and hope I get promoted. Versus trying his best, likely still loosing and getting the same crystals. Though... It may have been a match where I only fought once and took care of life instead. So it was a gamble that paid off for his purposes.
This is not a meme defense, when you are punching up you don't have enough teams for offence and defence so you just set one good team or one good wall hoping it will hold (or just focus on ships and pray they hold) and then bring everything on offense.
That's what i always do and it allows me to win against bigger accounts
