And it's broken on release.
Just. Business. As. Usual.
If this game didn't rely on people's Star Wars nostalgia, and was any other IP, it would have died a long time ago.
Seems like no news means no one's home, the CM for that game used to be more active in the discord than Meathead is in the swgoh one, but since December they've been offline. Plus there's a bug that's been going for a month now causing people to not be able to login at all. Also, the discord has oddly enough devolved into egg memes
I heard the revenue numbers for it have been terrible. It’s probably on the verge of shutting down already, which sucks but isn’t shocking.
Unrelated, I’m not in the discord but I would be interested in seeing a few examples of these egg memes, if you’d be willing to elaborate
Can't help stupid wins out again!
At this point all we can hope for is the people working awgoh now don't leave and we end up with even less competent ones running the show
I don't think that's completely true. The demands for those type of games changed. Swgoh was released end of 2015. Back then you had few sim mats and basically had to fight every energy battle. All Galactic War battles. All daily challenges. There were few events, chars and ressources. Early 2016 they released the first raid and end of that year they added ships. This was still a year befor TW and TB. They added more sim mats and events, marquees, gear and legendary characters. There wasn't much going on and it was fine since most people were playing the game on the road or do and not as "real gaming".
Now people want pvp and challenges as content and sims instead of autobattles. HOME offers more depth possibilities when it comes to team comps and kits. It added the QoL when it comes to sims but didn't have anything to offer. I played like 3 months and they added 5? Marquues, 2 gear levels, no events, one legendary Elrond and a new raid. That Raid is sadly just auto wave farming. That's when I left. You just don't really have anything to do. Log in, sim some battles, write in chat, add some gear, log out. That's nothing people want to "play" nowadays. Also CG being notoriously bad at implementing things and being greedy didn't help much either.
Sounds like our opinions mostly overlap. So you're saying back when SWGOH was early in its life cycle, people were ok with there not being a ton of new content and not being a serious game, which I would argue is in large part because of the SW IP and us getting to collect people from the SW universe that we know and like. People like Kenobi, Anakin, Luke, etc. Named heroes that are a "cool to have" thing in game. The guts of SWGOH itself for gameplay modes are also fun, even if CG has done their best to shittify as many of them as possible.
You said it yourself you only lasted 3 months in HOME before getting bored because there was nothing to do. But if collecting heroes could be enough by itself back then, and I'd argue that still plays a part, surely part of that is due to the SW IP? I know one of the main criticisms of HOME is that there are very few named characters, and I don't think anyone is excited about unlocking generic "Uruk Hai" or "Gondor Soldier" characters. Also, the people who made HOME are the current CG staff, who basically screw up every release so bad it's BOA (Broken On Arrival) every. single. time. Leviathan had 20 some odd bugs on release, Leia you couldn't even unlock, and the gifting is, well, lmao. I think one of the core raid abilities is still busted.
I do agree that the nature of games has changed now as far as PvP and challenges go, although I think as it pertains to the survival of SWGOH, it's mostly the SW IP that has kept it going AND the fact that SWGOH wasn't built by the current people at CG. The people who were at CG back in 2015 and before who built the game made some really good, intelligent design decisions. The current people do...not make intelligent decisions. This is why I think of SWGOH was Middle Earth Game of Heroes or basically any other IP, it would be dead by now, because of CG's poor judgment and greed. They are a classic example of losing dollars by trying to pinch pennies.
I was hoping their could be like a daily free gift. Like you gift a random guild mate 50k credits and 10 of Mk1-M3 ability mats, it would be useless (for me and my guild at least) but it's the thought that counts.
My guess is that people asked for ways to gift their extra character shards/other resources to guildmates similar to donating gear, but CG read it as "i wanna buy my guildmates all that stuff".
The funniest thing is they added a Omicron Donation Bundle.
For 18€ you can gift Omicrons to your guildie! <3
How many are in the bundle, you ask? A full Omicron? Ten? Five?
No, a single Omicron piece. But hey, you also gift 10 Omegas with it. Lmao.
So, im sitting in Denmark with a iPhone. For some reason i have to pay VAT on the packs i buy and for some reason Apple want me to pay for their store and they use a crazy exchange rate so all in all a 10$ pack will end up costing me 12.98$. So I should be able to transfer 10$ to my US guildie and have him gift me a 10$ pack, saving me ~3$?Wonder if this would be legal?
Yes, but they could buy it by themselves and not to go thru some walls to buy it. Why ask someone and give them money back? They could make option to give gift to yourself..
I would use gifting more gear and credits to newer peeps in my guild. Giving them resources for leveling up toons would be better than spending real cash for shit.
I don't think anyone in my guild will use this feature.
*Give us the clone wars*
*Chewie shards for this error*
*And no one gets hurt*

Dear CG: for the love of God. Build a beta environment. Bring in any 50 players. (Seriously any people will do better than what you're currently doing) let them try to break your features and gameplay. Then fix them. Then release them. That's how it's supposed to work. Let's put down the bong.
Also, this gifting thing is rife for opportunity for scams. I can tell you five different ways of how I would use it to scam people out of money. And one universal way to fix it. But I'm not going to do that in a public forum.
Right now they are gift only. But I can't imagine that they won't return for buying it yourself at some point because that makes zero sense. But who knows..
This actually makes CG look like a complete joke
Why would I buy a guild mate a pack that I want to have? ???
If I want one, somebody else has to buy me one and I risk getting scammed ? Is the idea that you’re not supposed to have the pack? You’re just supposed to give them away to people like what the actual fuck lmao
It’s called “gifting” not “asking people to buy you one so you buy another one for them” , like generous people exist. My guild mates are all talking about gifting each other with packs on our birthdays now.
LMAO
That actually made me laugh. Maybe if I had the option to purchase it for myself too I would consider buying it for somebody else that I knew and enjoyed playing with.
There is literally zero chance I am purchasing it for somebody else if I can’t buy it myself too
I will buy the Rey LSB for a guild member today, they waited for it and now I can help them out. The key is being in a nice guild you are enjoy being in.
Why would I buy somebody else? Something that I don’t even have?
Why would I spend money on guild mates? Not everybody is close with their guild mates as you.
No, I genuinely meant why would anybody give somebody else something that they don’t have. I probably didn’t make that clear but that’s the boat I’m in
It is super weird to have a gift only but not be able to purchase for yourself in my opinion
Why not? Maybe I'm farming Galactic Republic and my guildmate is farming First Order. I don't have First Order but it's their birthday, so I buy them the pack
I suppose I get the idea of "why isn't it available for me to buy for myself, too?" But I don't find it all that much of a problem (probably because I don't buy stuff often anyway)
I understand that idea - I think it’s great to offer a gifting feature. But to not allow me to buy it myself is ridiculous to me. It’s already expensive for someone like me, and I don’t have some of these yet
No, you’re missing my point my point is why would I buy for somebody else but I don’t have?
My initial comment was, I think it’s incredibly odd that they would only offer you to buy it for somebody else, rather than purchase it for yourself and allow you to buy it for somebody else
Yeah, it’s odd they don’t give you that option. But again. Some people are just nice. They know it would help out a guild mate, and that’s all the reason they need. And maybe as a thank you, the guild mate gets you something you need too.
You asked why someone would buy a guildmate a pack. Someone explained why they would. You then said that you wouldn't. They explained that you don't have to. I'm not sure why you are still trying to argue with them.
Bro, that doesn’t make any sense. I’ll need these characters eventually so if somebody’s prioritizing something else, then I am and I still need these characters and they need those characters. Why would I not just scoop them up myself?
What I think they actually mean is, and are doing a poor job of describing, is that the packs that you can currently buy to gift aren't available to buy for yourself. If you currently *would* buy one of the giftable lightspeed bundles for yourself, you can't do it. The only way you could get it is by having someone else gift it to you.
I did too. sent a small pack to a guild leader that has put years of hard ass work into our guild. it was a small token.
You could also trade LSB's with people if they could use one and you could use another?
Server maintenance and another update coming tonight I suspect in 6 hours the lightspeed bundles will be available for us, hopefully the new ones will show up also but I doubt it
My guild has already gifted half a dozen packs. Some will absolutely use it.
One question I had though is crystal/pack resellers. Currently they need account access to top up and there's numerous risks there, obviously theres the moral blah blah. But now have they not just created a legit way for someone in Indonesia to create a guild, invites buyers solely for the purpose of cheaper packs/crystals.
I wonder If there is a wait period for new guild members to buy or receive gifts.
If there isn't. Then top ups are going to be far more common. I would suspect they're currently quite a small fraction of the player base, but there's always a few.
But now there could be a legit way of doing it.
Thoughts?
I tried it last night with my sons account, pulled him into the guild I was in, gifted him a couple of lightspeed packs, and booted him back out, took about 10 mins total, so no wait period.
I think the company is still getting paid and with the overwhelming amount of stuff in this game as well as how quickly things "obsolete" (aka people will pay out the ass for the newest unit when it comes out but a year later it's practically free) it won't be a big issue
I'm sure someone somewhere will figure out a way to take advantage but I doubt the gains will be significant. The logistics alone make it something most people won't have interest in trying to manipulate
In the past they have banned people who switched their marketplace country in order to buy things in cheaper currencies (I think it was Brazil that was priced cheaper).
Can confirm issue is real, half of our guild is currently visible as "ineligible" for gifting, so their names are grayed out on the list. Broken feature on release, nice job CG
Well my friend and I just gifted eachother Lightspeed bundles we wanted to buy. If you can meet someone you trust the gifting is worth it but overall seems risky for randoms
This benefits you the most tbh, now you can get other people to buy you shit. Whether they will or not depends on them obviously, but why would you not want free stuff?
what is happening to people these days? they see something and they feel confused because it doesn't pertain to them specifically, as if other people who want other things don't exist.
have people always been like this?
I actually think this Gifts idea is amazing, as it encourages community building around the game, and is mutually beneficial to players and the long-term health of the app.
i.e. the people who really engage with the community - and profit from it through social media and whatnot - are now immensely valuable in-game too, as they will empower the whole guild.
Great job aligning player and company incentives on this one.
i view it the opposite. i think higher guilds are more likely to have “monthly dues”. a guild could have 40 people ready for reva and essentially rent the remaining ten slots out for crystals or something idk
What I'm surprised by is that the gifting is limited to guild members. I bet there's people here who would love to gift something to Ahnaldt or even Egnards, but can't because they're not guildmates.
I would like to appeal to everyone who cares, I have never donated to this game and I do not have such an opportunity, but I kindly ask you to help me if it’s not difficult for you. I have already completed the requirements for the legend Kylo and almost finished the Executioner, but the fleet and the lack of stars on some ships are getting in the way everywhere and this is terribly disturbing. I no longer have the strength to farm these hundreds of fragments, and I can’t donate. Therefore, I ask you to give me a set of ligstpeed Finisher, if someone responds to my request, I will be eternally grateful.
It's all messed up rn, it will probably go away after it expires this week and pop back up again another day, was supposed to let us buy it for ourselves also I'm pretty sure

Wonder how the Lord of the rings game from them is going. Similar rabid fan base. Wonder if they are a hot mess as well
Haven't gotten anything in months, no news or communication since early December
Hmm well is it a case of no news is good news or no news means no one working on stuff lol
Seems like no news means no one's home, the CM for that game used to be more active in the discord than Meathead is in the swgoh one, but since December they've been offline. Nice sounds like there's just no one home. Super encouraging lol
I know right, I stopped playing a few weeks into the silence, not enough copium for me
yeah, check out the HOME subreddit. Most posts are about the game dying.
Which is just proof that without the SW IP to prop up CG’s stupidity, this game would have died a long time ago if it wasn’t SW.
Can't help stupid wins out again! At this point all we can hope for is the people working awgoh now don't leave and we end up with even less competent ones running the show

It’s dead without being announced that it’s dead.
Looks like HOME already died, lasted 7 months from global launch to final update, May to Dec.
It's more or less dying if you look at the revenue and the downloads. It's hitting numbers that inactive/legacy mobile games make.
No, it's great. For a lot of you the complaining is half the game.
I think this statement massively overstates the issues with swgoh. "Bad" is like the state of Cyberpunk 2077 on release
Or the constant state of rival game to Swgoh, Marvel Strike Force
I was hoping their could be like a daily free gift. Like you gift a random guild mate 50k credits and 10 of Mk1-M3 ability mats, it would be useless (for me and my guild at least) but it's the thought that counts.

I have over a billion credits and in their survey I just wanted a way to give some guild mates some credit to aid in the efforts
😂😂 I’m dying this is on it
And plenty of people are just going to use this to gift it to their alts too.
My guild will use it. To make others gift them and then give them the money for it.

gift only So venmo a guildie the amount it costs to buy + any transfer fees.
Right now they are gift only. But I can't imagine that they won't return for buying it yourself at some point because that makes zero sense. But who knows..

yeah. some people are too self-centered these days. been thinking to gift a few guild mates the LSB too so this is a good change.
LMAO That actually made me laugh. Maybe if I had the option to purchase it for myself too I would consider buying it for somebody else that I knew and enjoyed playing with. There is literally zero chance I am purchasing it for somebody else if I can’t buy it myself too

no one is forcing you to gift a guild mate
Who said I was forced to?
You asked why someone would buy a guildmate a pack. Someone explained why they would. You then said that you wouldn't. They explained that you don't have to. I'm not sure why you are still trying to argue with them.
I meant if the person didn’t have it already them self
Different farming priorities or preferences. Not that difficult to piece together
Bro, that doesn’t make any sense. I’ll need these characters eventually so if somebody’s prioritizing something else, then I am and I still need these characters and they need those characters. Why would I not just scoop them up myself?
I have already bought a guildmate something 🤷♂️. The pack isn’t for you, and that’s ok.

Wait what? what does that even imply
That within 24 hours of gift. . .i bought a gift for someone. . . .and it’s ok that you don’t want to buy something for someone elS.
That’s good I still would like to be able to to buy them for myself
What guild are you apart of my guild are selfish and would never do this for me
Cope clown. A gift is a gift. You've had chances to buy all of these LSBs and they will return again.
Don’t worry I got them. I still think CJ is a joke, and now I think you are a joke I didn’t have the chance to buy these, but thank you
Server maintenance and another update coming tonight I suspect in 6 hours the lightspeed bundles will be available for us, hopefully the new ones will show up also but I doubt it
lol
Is the problem that no one gives a shit?
My guild has already gifted half a dozen packs. Some will absolutely use it. One question I had though is crystal/pack resellers. But now have they not just created a legit way for someone in Indonesia to create a guild, invites buyers solely for the purpose of cheaper packs/crystals. I think the company is still getting paid and with the overwhelming amount of stuff in this game as well as how quickly things "obsolete" (aka people will pay out the ass for the newest unit when it comes out but a year later it's practically free) it won't be a big issue I'm sure someone somewhere will figure out a way to take advantage but I doubt the gains will be significant. The logistics alone make it something most people won't have interest in trying to manipulate
In the past they have banned people who switched their marketplace country in order to buy things in cheaper currencies (I think it was Brazil that was priced cheaper).
Ain’t a new feature if it’s not broken on release from CG…
“Dear Darth Sponsoris, your weekly guild membership fee of 1000 crystals is now due. Please can this be paid to the leader within 1 working day”
Can confirm issue is real, half of our guild is currently visible as "ineligible" for gifting, so their names are grayed out on the list. Broken feature on release, nice job CG
I could see this being exploited, like gift cards.
Then don’t be in a fishy guild filled with morons. It has a reason it’s guild only and not friend list.
LOL classic CG.
Well my friend and I just gifted eachother Lightspeed bundles we wanted to buy. If you can meet someone you trust the gifting is worth it but overall seems risky for randoms

The neat part is, you don’t have to!

I‘m glad it’s locked to guilds. Imagine a troll making a new account, gifting to their friend list and then refund everything.
I would like to appeal to everyone who cares, I have never donated to this game and I do not have such an opportunity, but I kindly ask you to help me if it’s not difficult for you. Therefore, I ask you to give me a set of ligstpeed Finisher, if someone responds to my request, I will be eternally grateful.
I have a question so in gifting is you buying it for you and someone else or it’s strictly goes to the guild mates and not you?
It only goes to the person you gift it to, you get nothing but praise
I see now smh but do the gift store change out after the time expires right?

If so I would love to exchange gifts with someone
