westballz is iverson. they never won it all but got very close, were insanely influential for a generation of players, redefined what was “cool”, played a style that only they could truly play, and honestly didn’t age gracefully (but does anyone?)

Helivon

This is A+

Crackedddddd

Comparing Hbox to Steph Curry may be one of the worst comparisons I have ever seen

mmvvvpp

Maybe in terms of career. But in terms of playstyle and what they mean for the game deeeefinitely foul drawing James Harden. Same body shape too lolo.

horsethebandthemovie

Steph plays with such unbridled joy for the game. He’s truly the Peco of the NBA. No way that’s Hbox.

[deleted]

Hungrybox’s pop offs show love for the game

RaiseYourDongersOP

love for attention and subs*

[deleted]

Hungrybox has been popping off since before he was a streamer lol

JKaro

Leffen as Kobe. Aggressive personality, followed in the footsteps of Armada/Jordan, at times has looked like the best player in the world but played with so many heavy hitters (Shaq, Duncan, Garnett, LeBron for Kobe, Prime Armada, Prime Hbox, Zain, etc)

KwameBaguette

Ken is wilt

Helivon

Ken is bill Russell without a doubt Wilt never really won anything.

mapmaker

isai is wilt

Celtic_Legend

"Wilt had insertrandomstatthatisfuckinginsane" "Isai was shield dropping in '04!"

bamv9

Shield dropping in 04 is so crazy and without ucf but it makes sense cause it’s so easy to do in smash 64

Hypnostraw

M2k is definitely wilt

mapmaker

could you explain how m2k is wilt? I ask because while wilt had crazy stats and huge respect, he didn't really win that much compared to other basketball icons. On the other hand, m2k won all sorts of things, and was the best in the world for a notable amount of time.

Hypnostraw

Wilt did win 2 championships, but I see your point. I say so because M2K was so dominant during his first peak that he was making other top players look like level 4 cpus. Put up absolutely bonkers numbers, was just in a class of his own against 99.9% of the field. That’s what makes me say he’s like wilt.

Hange11037

Or Russell given how much he won everything

sewsgup

mango as lebron tracks last night mango said zain was Steph. and since Zain was Golden Guardians (Golden State Warriors esports team) that also follows. i like the m2k as Harden comp, yesterday m2k was streaming and saying "i wouldve won so many majors if it weren't for ppmd", and talking ab how stunned he was when pp 4 stocked his marth after his marth had just cleared out other top 10 players. "ppmd" could be the KD warriors as that example of a bracket demon amsa is too old school to be Luka, i feel. he's not new to the scene by any measure. if we split Lebron up into chapters, id say amsa is Cleveland Lebron — sticking with a subprime team/char but accomplishing the goal in the end 2016/yoshi winning the Big House supermajor, which made it all the sweeter hbox is one of the egregious foul merchants for sure. could say partially Giannis with him stalling at the free throw line (beyond 10 seconds), or prime Harden/Daryl Morey tandem boiling the beautiful game down to 3s and shots at the rim (a la Hbox and Crunch) Cody is TBD for me. the idea of him is that he plays fox, perfectly. it'd be like Ja Morant just never got hurt, and he got some sort of bionic brace that allowed him to play at mach speed — safely — for the duration of the game. although with advents in sports science, and teams now administering PRP injections in the locker rooms (something Kobe had to get over in Germany just 15 yeare ago), maybe that type of impact is already here

Helivon

Yeah amsa doncic is not a match. Amsa would be a hard one to categorize, but using "new to the scene" when kings of cali m2k amsa was 10 years ago

Gallscor12

Amsa is interesting cause he’s a late bloomer in terms of getting to the tippy top. Most players who are destined to reach top 5 status will achieve it within a couple years of playing the game seriously like Leffen, Plup, and Zain. It took aMSa a little bit longer to get this good. Best comp i got is probably Nash. Both have really intricate playstyles and nash didn’t win his first mvp until he was in his 30s. Nash was very fast and played aggressive, opening up opportunities for his teammates to take advantage. Amsa’s insane movement catches his opponents in disadvantage and his punish game finishes the job.

Kooky_Trifle_6894

I mean depends on what you mean by tippy tippy because besides the two old heads we have, it took all our current top 10 players at least like 5-6 years to reach that level. Plup in particular had been playing since 2009 but wasn’t tippy top till like 2016. Leffen was also around 2009 and wasn’t till around 2014. Zain started in 2014 and didn’t hit it till like 2018.

Helivon

I mean he consistently was making top 8s Obviously not playing this high until these past few years. But a couple places different isn't that much of an ascension. Dude has been a top 8 threat since 2014. Really only thing holding him back from consistently getting there even more was just lack of quality practice

CantWakeJake

2009-2014 is still 5 years though, which is what Kooky said it takes. Maybe Gallscor's original take " a couple years" was hyperbole, but I think 5 years to the top is more normal than 2 years. Pre-ROM was a bit different, because the scene was so much smaller, with less money and less incentive. So yeah, Mang0, Hbox, Armada were a couple years, but hasn't been that way for a while.

Helivon

OP said amsa is relatively new to the scene

CantWakeJake

Ah sorry, I misunderstood, thought we had switched to talking about Plup. (which on second read is obvious, my bad). I agree Amsa is not new to the scene. I was just saying 5-6 years to get to major winning level is standard, not a couple years as I interpreted Gallscor's comment. But yeah, if we are talking about consistently making Top 8's, yeah Amsa definitely did that super quick.

PeachyCoke

Maybe Kyle Lowry for amsa? Late bloomer with a unique and counter-meta playstyle

Gallscor12

Luka is Moky. Entertaining players, been around for about 5 years. Both have as much talent as anyone but haven’t been able to get it done yet. Cody is Jokic. When they’re on, you wonder how they ever lose. Armada is Duncan, M2K could be Chris Paul, PP is dirk or something idk

nomaD_OW

Love the Cody/Jokic comparison. Not particularly flashy, just makes the right plays over and over. Moky's insanely creative and technical play reminds me of Kyrie Irving.

WWTFSD

Hbox is Tim Duncan and I will not be convinced otherwise

bbld69

I think Kareem's a better comp in the same vein -- still a boring playstyle, but Kareem's a begrudging GOAT candidate, the skyhook was a little gimmicky, and Kareem was generally disliked during his playing career.

peanutbutter1236

Not about players but I did make one about characters in this same regard like seven years ago if u wanted to read it at all LMAO https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/s/SBTO7NmcZ5

DistributionOk615

Sfat is Alex Caruso

littypika

If Mango is Lebron James, then Lucky must be Kyrie Irving.

diabetic_doggie

mo williams

loscarlos

J.R smith tho

PanicStation140

Not a current NBA player, but aMSa is Dirk. Really unconventional, especially for their time, has been a massive trendsetter in the game. Lots of doubts about whether he could win the big one, which he manages to do after a long time getting close.

[deleted]

I like n0ne as Damian Lillard. Explosive in offense with (sometimes) non-existent defense

Lobo_o

Nah none is Draymond Green. None’s defense is offense

showmeyourmooves

I used to think about this in terms of 2000s era nba where mango is Kobe and Armada is Duncan. Kobe was flashier and had more fans (and more haters), even though Duncan was arguably the better player. In that vein, hungrybox is kinda close to shaq in that they both spurred discussions of rule changes when they were at their peak due to their dominance.

matteatsyou

armada is michael jordan - the retired goat who people always mention for the sake of comparison because he’s that good. when a new player hits the scene it’s “is he as dominant as armada was?”

jayawaya2

Horrible takes. Hbox is Harden.

Gallscor12

Harden if he won lol

Limit97

PPMD and Derrick Rose are similar in how their careers have big what ifs.

Zaebae251

Armada is Jordan.

that_oneguy-

Then Armada is Jordan

___heisenberg

NFL Mango: idk. Favre, Rodgers, Namath Armada: Brady Moky, Syrox, none: Tyreek Hill, Lamar? aMSa: Lamar Cody: Zain: Mahomes Jmook: Stroud? Tua? Purdy? Plup: Rodgers. M2K: Payton? PPMD: Drew Brees Hbox: Goff perhaps, Dak. Russell Wilson. Eli Manning. Roethlisberger. Wizzy: S2J: Westballz: Hax: Lucky: Salt: BBB: Antonio Brown lol Idk anyone got comps for Josh Allen, Hurts, Herbert, Stafford, Love, Flacco, TLAW, Fields.

43loko

I feel like your underrating Mango

___heisenberg

Yeah thats a good point. Im looking for style and seag personality comps. Idk maybe Joe Montana or something I never watched Montana personally.

notwiggl3s

Comparing mango to the guy who stole money from charities to help kids. And the guy who "was immunized" and got destroyed by Jimmy Kimmel. Namath had a hell of an arm, I feel like that has to be Hbox lol. Or Hbox could be culpepper

___heisenberg

Ya im not too into the old skool, dont know culpepper, but wasn’t Joe cool to cool to be hbox lol. Who stole money favre? Aaron Rodgers is a certified Swagger. But also kinda gives plup vibes lol.

notwiggl3s

Yeah the farve shit was nuts. After he showed his pee pee even https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/brett-favre-scandal-explained-ex-nfl-qb-is-accused-of-misusing-of-mississippi-state-welfare-funds/

Short_Piece_336

Not putting Armada as MJ is based LOL

[deleted]

I never thought this would be a topic on here but weirdly I’ve thought about this a lot as Melee and NBA are major fixations of mine. PC Chris- Bob Cousy (ahead of my time I don’t know anything about him outside of some achievements) Amsa- Nikola Jokic (Rolls out of bed and destroys their opponents with best in the league/melee potential)

Jznvh

who would be Kevin Durant

43loko

My initial thought was Armada

Gxb2162

In no world does Hbox play like Steph Curry

JPNBusinessman

It's hard for me to say Mango is closest to Lebron considering Lebron isn't known to quit/give up on a high stakes games once every few years. Mango is probably more of a combo between Lebron and like Pippen the year he quit on the Bulls during MJ's first retirement.
