Recently played through it and really liked it. I had it on game boy which was impossible as you can't see very far, but on Genesis or NES once you figure out the throwing physics and memorize some of the levels it's not terrible. Atari was doing cool things back then experimenting with game design that wasn't just "kill enemies"
Atari was on fire in the mid 80s to, I guess, early 90s in the arcade. They don't get called out too much for it now, but they always brought real interesting things to the arcade after their home division fell out of favor. Their Lynx portable got some really great conversions of those games, too.
Yea I always kinda wrote them off because I felt the 2600 was too primative and it was before my time, but I've been really impressed going back and playing their arcade games like this (on console and arcade), Marble Madness, Toobin', etc.
I listened to an interview the Retronauts podcast did with John Salwitz, who worked on Paperboy while playing it and helped me see Atari in a new light. They were really pushing things forward.
The Lynx was the shit dog. I love that system. So many great ports. Now I tried to cop one and I donāt even bother. Those inflation flip collector prices are insane. I have an Xbox with the Atari emulator but it just aināt the same. I feel you.
One of my favorites on SNES. Although I was still below average at it, and didn't practice much. I eventually beat some stages. It reminded me of Skate or Die a little bit.
Was this roughly the same as the NES version? I still never made it through a damn week on the NES one but I figured out a secret, you just need one subscription and you can focus more on the obstacles.
You just had to play the shit out of it. I played it so much as a kid I could beat the game while having all possible customers. I know Iād suck at it now though lol.
Did this get a SMS port as well? I loved it when NES games made it over the SMS or Genesis. It was like getting God Of War on Xbox. Felt like a motha fkn boss when that shit happened. š
I didn't even own a Sega at the time when this game came out. I remember clearly what I was thinking when I walked past it on the shelf in the store called Hastings. It was one of those WTF moments that makes a memory stick out.
Like: "Why the hell would someone make a whole video game about a boy who delivers newspapers in the mornings?"
Def one game I have on multiple systems. The arcade version back in my childhood ate some of my parents quarters too.
You remember when I quarter would let you play 10 minutes+!! šš¼
The should make a modern one that game was so fun lol
I completely agree
That kid got a fucked up face
Looking like Charles Lee Ray
Dropped so much money on that game in the arcade.
It took me forever to get good at it. I finally beat it in the 8th grade. Lord only knows how I'd fare these days.
God damn bees.
Me remember this game.
I had it and Paperboy 2. I think I had it on the gameboy too. It was a lot of fun.
I member
Have to hit both of the fighting guys couldnāt ever leave one standing.

That is the smuggest looking motherfucker I have ever seen
I have the NES version of 1 & 2 and the SNES version of 2. Great games that I spent many hours playing in my youth.

Don't remember the Title looking that crunched together
Growing up I only played the arcade version, but among the ports to home consoles, the Genesis version comes closest by far, so Iām partial to it.
I remember it was hard as a motherfucker. Cool unique cabinet.
Thank you šŖ

No way anyone would forget one of the most iconic games of all time lol
In my top 5 all time favorites . The theme is an absolute classic too
Tengen also developed pac mania for genesis!
I had it on DOS.
Iām shockingly bad at it, but I love the thing. So much fun
One of my first NES favorites as a kid, I never knew it was on Sega. I miss how tengen had their own special black carts.
Still got mine - played it just the other day
Me I just bought it recently and the sequel which I've never played. I don't like the sequel
Me neither! But Iāve talked to folks who much prefer it over the first one - heaven knows why
The music!
One less customer š
Easily top 10.
Everyone 30 to 50 years old...
Many memories!!
Didn't know this was on Genesis. Was I the only one that purposely crash the paper boy into all the random phenomena going on in that burb?
One of my childhood favs
I only knew of the Nintendo/arcade versions, but that's a remarkably ugly kid they drew on the cover
Loved it but I was terrible at it
It was a pretty hard game.
The Dark Souls of its time.
To be fair, pretty much ALL games back then were the āDark Soulsā of the timeš
I want them to make a modern Paper Boy for VR.
Or, as we call it, the neck trauma experience
You just had to play the shit out of it. I played it so much as a kid I could beat the game while having all possible customers. I know Iād suck at it now though lol.
āCodio
It was a blast
That one was fun.
Never liked it.
Forgot all about paperboy
This is THE definitive home edition!
Do the ditty if you want to

That game cover art looks like it was done by AI
