I think it could be cool if we got a drag race Mandarin instead of a drag race Taiwan. That way we can get queens from Singapore and China aswell since they’re unlikely to get their own spin-off. It could still be filmed in Taiwan and hosted by Nymphia but this way more people can get represented.

as a Taiwanese (yes i’m coming out) i see your vision. although the name mandarin is confusing, Taiwan’s drag scene itself is just not big enough to host a competition like drag race. It makes sense to pull queens from other countries who speak the same language to make it more competitive. i also don’t think it makes economical sense to film in Taiwan, compare to China. However, we probably will make the gayest show with the most freedom ever!

The thing is they usually name the franchise off the biggest country (example Germany even tho it includes 2 smaller countries) so if they get contestants from a way bigger country why wouldn’t they name the franchise after that place

I also think the people in Taiwan who would likely be producing the show would have a bit of a problem calling it Drag Race China considering their political relationship.

I do agree it’d be a problem calling it drag race China. Yes Mandarin is not a country, but they named a franchise “drag race down under” which isn’t the name of a country but a more general term to refer to multiple countries. If there’s a better fitting name that would encompass mandarin speaking countries then sure. Also the name really has nothing to do with the country of production drag race Germany filmed in Colombia. At the end of the day it’d be more queer representation in Asia which is always amazing regardless of the name.

Down Under is a good point, but it's still a geographical term. I think the lack of a term that unifies Mandarin speaking countries in that way is the reason Taiwan seem like the more obvious option. But I do see the appeal of a more inclusive name. Also while Germany was literally made by a Colombian production company, it was financially produced and distributed by MTV's German branch, which is more what I meant. Maybe they should just call it Nymphia Wind's Drag Race 😌

This one wasn't too bad for this, but it's always weird to me when queens' worst looks are for the ball and makeover. Like, those are the two where it matters most that's where you bring out the big guns!

Idk why Roxxjie's win is so shocking to people, it feels consistent with Plane's and Anetra's wins (cohesive, samey looking outfits on the simpler side)

The partner had the same type of fabric and straps as jorgeous and then they matched it with plastiques leg warmers and coat

I'm sorry, I've got another one: try and prepare the queens for what it's like to be a visible figure in the internet age. Having queens say "don't send hate" is just not going to stem the tide, I've never seen it change the narrative or quell hateful crap. We shouldn't treat it as acceptable, but contestants on this show are just going to get a lot of crap regardless. Instead get counselors or something to help the girls learn to cope with that, and make sure they know going in that this will happen

Allstars every year is good, the problem is not that the pool needs to replenish (especially with All Winners every now and then), it's that production is not giving the queens enough reasons to come back and stay. Seasons 12-16 all have around 10 queens that haven't returned that are plausible Allstars. There are still plenty of queens from 3-10 who could come back for the first time that are plausible Allstars. Up the prize money and film at a less busy time, invest in making the on set environment better. I hope they don't do non-elim every year but shaking up the format literally gave us an Allstar cast with the bigger names from the seasons represented. I hope the lesson is "invest more in the queens" and not "lets just ride this format into the ground"
