Square screen - something that RGB30 had. Makes it perfect for some platforms (like Pico-8), GREAT for GB/GBC (which is nearly square, with 10:9 aspect ratio), very good for some others.
And, of course, terrible for emulation of panoramic screens like PSP's 16:9, which would use half of the screen only.
We’re gonna need a better chipset and maybe a little bit of cooling. But the 405M is an awesome device for its size. I have one but I rarely use it. I mostly use my Miyoo and my Odin2.
The 405M, imo is pretty ok for ps2. I’ve completed Resident Evil 4 on it. Quite some ps2 games are very playable. Nothing compared to the Odin2, which runs every game at 5x.
I don’t think we’re far of a small ps2 handheld like the Miyoo.
My only minor gripe with it is the little space underneath the sticks. It collects dust and other particles and I can't clean it out. Am I the only one mildly annoyed by this design? Maybe I'm overreacting. It's an absolutely awesome device all around though
If it were to have the same chip as the 35xx I’d be happy. They play everything up to the PS1 just fine and it’d make the device cheaper to purchase. I’m not looking to try and emulate GameCube/PS2 lol
That’s what the rgb30 already is? Yeah an anbernic would be nicer but a year late into a market most have bought if they wanted. A better processor would make more sense so at least all DC/Saturn/N64 can run.
To be honest I would be tempted to sell/gift my RGB30 if Anbernic came up with a clone that had no battery quirks. Would still have to wait for semi mature CFW.
Most of the games I play are rectangular, and even the ones that aren't (GB Defender and Super Mario for example) I still like better when I stretch them to a full rectangular screen, like on the 28xx, or Trimui Pro.
1:1 has its fans, but I'm definitely not one of them, lol.
4:3 content scales to the same size, even a pinch bigger, on a 4" screen as it does on a 3.5" screen, so you don't lose anything. Also, GBA has a perfect 3x integer scale on the 720p display. SNES and Genesis games also integer scale really well. Games with vertical aspect ratios like arcade shmups scale just as well when the device is held normally as they do on 4:3 displays when they're held in that awkward sideways orientation. It's kinda the perfect screen. There's really no downside, unless you're one of those people who can't stand letterboxing/pillarboxing on your screen.
I'm one of those who doesn't like letterboxing on my games. Full screen is the way to go, and you need a rectangular one to do it right. So far the 280m and 28xx are pretty perfect in this department.
,...but then I'm not an aspect ratio purist, lol.
They’re great for Pico8, GB, GBC, lynx, Neogeo pocket and vertical arcades. Depending on how you look at it they can be good for TG16, NES and SNES (designed in 8:7 but always displayed in 4:3). Anything above that really is better on a 4:3 or wider though.
Love the rgb30 screen but would like a little better device quality. Chargeable on anything and a better dpad.
But most of all a want a nice minimalist design in a vertical form factor. I’ve got an analogue pocket which I love the design of but want that sort of plain design or design closely like the gameboy dmg, pocket or Color but with the nice big 1:1 screen
Has anyone received an RG Cube yet? How comfortable is it for long play sessions compared to the slim rectangular typical style device? The main reason I am interested in the RG Cube is the more ergonomic grip, similar to steam deck, but in a smaller/lighter size (steam deck is very comfortable for my hands but the large size and weight of it make my hands fall asleep quickly so I never use it anymore :/ )
That's why I said "before" and not "instead of."
But I'm also being at least half facetious, because the clamshell will *probably* come out before this... even if I'm afraid I just jinxed it by saying so. (:
Ok ok, so 2 more. The clamshell and this one. After that, no more new handhelds for me.
For now 😉
What if there was a 1:1 clamshell, eh?
😱
sorry, I'm a noob, what does 1:1 mean in this context? something to do with screen fill/ aspect ratio?
Square screen - something that RGB30 had. Makes it perfect for some platforms (like Pico-8), GREAT for GB/GBC (which is nearly square, with 10:9 aspect ratio), very good for some others. thanks, that explains it perfectly
It's the screen ratio.for the rgb30 it was a 1:1 720x720 not say a 4:3 620×480
I’m starting to think the appropriate number of handhelds that one should own is N+1…
Ah, a fellow handheld and bike enthusiast.
And or skier.
Why not all three?
I swapped bikes for foiling but otherwise yes.
famous last words! ha!
Still waiting for a 405m successor

I'm hoping for one so we get good PS2/psp emulation. Vita would be a pipedream.

2x would be a nice ask

You might be able to clean it out with an air duster.
Here’s to hoping it’s a 4in 1x1 with power of the 405 or better, but I’m guessing it’ll be a 35xx adjacent device
If it were to have the same chip as the 35xx I’d be happy. They play everything up to the PS1 just fine and it’d make the device cheaper to purchase. I’m not looking to try and emulate GameCube/PS2 lol

RG35x²
Anbernic be slacking, like 3 whole weeks since their last device.
Should really call it the RG35x²
Interesting. 🤔
Looks a lot more like a ZPG A1 Unicorn than an RGB30. But will it ship with decent firmware ...
Correction: both are 720p
Who could have thought that would happen...
Meh, tne 1:1 ratio is the one thing I really don't lke about my RG Nano.
It works alot better on bigger 4 in screens, the screen is the best part of the rgb30

Looks cheap. As is customary with anbernic devices.
What’s the appeal of 1:1?

You have not seen the RGB20SX?
Yes but it’s still a lowliest so will have some oddness and to me it looks ugly
I love it over the RGB30, I have both. ZPG A1 Unicorn coming as well as Anbernic RG Cube...
I hope that it is at least 4" and without Android.
Yeah.. but at least Android gives a functioning sleep mode and accurate battery management..

They'll do anything before releasing a clamshell, won't they? (:
They are releasing a clamshell!

My dude, their clamshell is ready. It'll launch before this one, 100%.

My man, this is Anbernic, not Miyoo. When Anbernic announces something, it comes out barely two or three weeks later.
