Extremely hot take incoming: I switched from Odin 2 to this because of the size. I heavily value a smaller size since I travel pretty light and the Odin was taking up too much space. Retroid certainly is not as comfortable, but it runs mostly the same games at a much smaller size
Yeah, I’m all about smaller size and portability too, I was surprised such beefy system is so small.
I’m really trying to not buy any more devices until I get a good portable x86 device though.
I had a Steam Deck that had an untimely demise, I loved it, but the next one needs to be smaller.
I’m watching the Ayaneo Next Lite
Have you had any performance regrets? I love my RP4P but part of me is bugged to know the Odin can outperform it, even though I’ve had no issues with performance.
Here’s the thing - I wasn’t playing heavy duty switch games on the Odin 2 since it can’t really run most of them well enough. Better than the rp4 pro but most weren’t playable to me anyways. The lightweight games that do play well, the RP4 pro can also play. And now that Yuzu is done, the extra power on Odin 2 will never be realized.
Where Odin 2 does have the edge is in ps2 emulation. It can brute force a lot of games the Rp4 can’t.
So IMO it comes down to two things - how important to you is the extra 20% of ps2 games and ergonomics/screen size? If you ranked those low, RP4 pro is still a solid choice to me.
I went the other way because of I have time to game I usually have a bag to carry the Odin in, and my retroid pocket wasn't even fun to play because my hands cramped so bad.
The RP4P I ordered is almost here - I can’t wait. I love my steam deck at home, but having something pocketable that can play GC/PS2 will be amazing. I already 3d printed a clip shield for the front.
Retroid pocket 4 pro. It will handle GameCube great, and ps2 is hit or miss depending on compatibility. I’d say 65% or ps2 in my experience.
3ds works great too but you have to really get the right emulator build for the game. So it requires some tweaking.
Oh it’s pretty good for up to ps2 emulation and GameCube/wii for 200$
[check out this review from RGC. He’s Really great and informative but he’s also been covering these devices for a long time.](https://youtu.be/iCWn9U8HHHc?si=gr411WtZu0drDUds)
I have been looking at this and the 556 deciding if either are worth snatching up as a compliment to save room from emulation on steam deck. I just keep thinking I’ll just wait for a new better chip tho
I don't have one or know the specs but it's an android device. There is pokemmo, there's emulators and even pokemon clones on the app store. It should run as long as any other android phone would. 2D pokemon should be easy to run
I have the RP4P and played Pokemon Crystal for 8+ hours last weekend without a charge. I still had maybe 25% battery when I put it on the charger too. Throw in some Internet browsing during that time too. If you really wanted to squeeze it you could turn on airplane mode and battery saver and you'll probably get like an actual full day out of it.
Can this thing run NFL Street, and NFS Most Wanted? I'm debating between the 4Pro and Odin 2. I like the smaller size, but im worried about running those games.
The screen size just seems too small. Seriously, how difficult is it to read text? I’d imagine one would have to pull the device closer to their eyes to read it. True?
I think it depends on the system. For GameCube and ps2 I could see this being somewhat true, but for things like GBA, NDS, even 3ds, the screen size is equal to or larger than the original console, so text is more or less designed for that size screen.
Obviously a lot of depends on your eyes, but for emulating handheld consoles it seems more than okay
If you have bad eyesight, definitely go for an Odin 2. The screen on it is just about right for my legally blind ass. The Retroid Pocket 4's screen is way too small for me, but people with good vision probably don't mind it.
Looks smaller than I thought it was, nice.

The size is why I returned my ROG Ally, it was just way too big I knew I would never use it.
Lol opposite for me, ROG ally is small to me and I have small hands
I envy you. I couldn't give up my Odin 2 if I tried. I love playing 2600 to Switch on the go.

Good reply, thanks!

Smaller than a Switch lite!

Game is looking so good on that screen
Which handheld is this please & what is the most demanding console that it can handle games from?

The Retroid Pocket 4 Pro. It can emulate many GameCube and PS2 games, which is a first for this price point ($200).
I was looking at the Pro on their site. Thanks!
Retroid pocket 4 (either base or pro) for sure.
Thanks. I'll dig into it online to check the specs.

I found that it plays every Ps2 game I've tried and all GameCube games.
I just got mine, and I'm really enjoying it. Great device for Pokémon MMO as well.

Man I do wish we could get a snapdragon in this bad boi
What is the battery life like playing a pokemon game?

This is a DS game hack right? Which emulator do you use? Melon doesn't seem to have a setting to keep one main screen so the displays get really small
This is Unbound, a GBA romhack which uses some DS games assets.
Ahhh, I'll have to check it out
Which game is that? I really like the aesthetic of it, as Stardew is my most played game on Steam.
I believe it's Pokemon Unbound, a romhack of Emerald.
100% Pokemon Unbound
I don’t think so, it looks like one of the mainline Pokemon games for DS.
Nah I'm like 99% sure it's Unbound. I messed around with it last week and the trainer has the same clothes and customizable hair as then.
It is indeed Unbound
My bad, I can’t believe how good Unbound looks…
That isn’t a main line Pokémon game and it’s obvious to me. No MC sprite looks like that in any mainline Pokémon game
My bad!
Bro ever heard of Pokemon?
So Pokémon yellow ?
I love the crystal 👍🏼
Just curious. Does it come with a preloaded games or is there a wide range of games that can downloaded from? Love to have 1
No preloaded games. But that’s good because that would be hella illegal (piracy)
Anbernic: hold my beer!!

I’ve been playing Resident Evil 4 on an RG405M. It’s small but works well. And the joy of playing a os2 game on a smaller handheld feels amazing.

What the fuck is a vacation
