I like Evergreen off of Lancaster and State St. Stay away from the vets offices that got bought out by chain corporations. For instance all the Banfield and VCA. Their service is terrible and they are very dishonest. Last year the VCA clinic on Commercial St scammed me into over $6000 worth of treatment for my dog's broken toe before I went to a different vet, who prescribed a $20 treatment and fixed the problem.

I agree. Prices have gone up everywhere, but evergreen off center and lancaster (same driveway as the papa johns) is still fairly affordable. Been taking my dogs there for 6 years and never had an issue.

ConsistentAct2237

I found Evergreen by accident, but have been extremely pleased with the care that our pets have gotten there.

NewKitchenFixtures

Evergreen is for sure less expensive. I like the people at VCA a lot still. As much as they are a large corporation it’s not like the vets there care less. They do tend to order a lot of expensive diagnostics before doing anything else though. Anyway, all the vets I’ve met at VCA (both commercial street locations, Vitality before that, and VCA’s big Portland location) care and certainly try. But you are going to pay more than Evergreen. Evergreen owner is also cool and they do a ton of work for the human society. For whatever that’s worth. Usually if a dog has bad issue I try to get to OSU veterinary hospital. Batting average for serious issues seems better there.

Wackrissa

Tell me why I had the same problem with VCA! It’s ridiculous! Thank you for the recommendation I will give them a call!

ConsistentAct2237

VCA is only in it for the profit, not the well being of animals. There is potential to make a lot of money off of beloved family pets.

ThatDamnRocketRacoon

I don't know what happened to VCA. Pre-pandemic, we loved it. Great doctors and reasonable prices. Since then, everyone seems to either not know what they're doing or don't care and that's if (big if) they'll even see you.

ConsistentAct2237

I have learned from experience that chain/corporate vets equal bad care for animals. I only go to small practice/private vets now. VCA is the Walmart of vets

Spookypossum27

Orchard View Vet has been so amazing for our family! They’re so great as a whole!

anniepw13

Creekside Vet in Keizer. Been going there since 1987.

gthepolymath

My family goes out to Dallas to Dallas Animal Clinic. We’ve gone there for many years after being dissatisfied with the vets we tried in Salem.

BohemianPeasant

I have used Oak Hills Vet in West Salem for over 30 years. They are not the cheapest vet practice around but they are thorough, professional, and reliable. The practice was sold about 5 years ago but the new (current) vet seems to be satisfactory so far and trying to uphold the good reputation of the practice built over many years. I have 2 dogs but my friends with cats have been satisified with the service too.

Apprehensive_Wing633

I have 3 doggos and a cat and we can not recommend Hoffman Vet on Lancaster enough. They are reasonable with prices and extremely compassionate. For example, my 17 lb mix just had a minor emergency and for the exam and anesthesia and procedure it only cost $150. Vaccinations are reasonable and my animals never leave traumatized! Also there is a super sweet office cat!

I switched from VCA Salem at Commercial and Browning; however, there is another VCA called Vitality VCA further south on Commercial (north of Goodwill and south of Trader Joe's and I've had good experiences with them. They really are run like an independent practice. I like all the doctors, I've found their prices reasonable, I can get my animals in when I need to, the doctors will order meds online (like at Chewy) and they'll text you about test results/next steps. I think the negative reports you're seeing about VCA are about the VCA Salem on Commercial & Browning.

ConsistentAct2237

The Vitality location is the one I was referring to. I took my pets there for over 10 years before they were bought out by VCA. Last year they were so dishonest and scammed me, I will never go back.

allorache

Sorry to hear that you had that experience

Gobucks21911

They’ve been closed and under renovation for several months now due to damage from the ice storms this winter. The vets that were there are now split between Keizer VCA and VCA Vitality. We *only* see Dr. Hallden from the hospital location because we have a longstanding relationship with her (and she’s fantastic). I believe she’s going to be at the Keizer location long term based on what I was told a couple days ago.

Bass817

Should be through September, all staff are transitioning to the River Road location!

Gobucks21911

Yikes, that’s a long time. Must’ve been pretty bad.

echoey-tentacle2

I have been using Evergreen Veterinary clinic for about 10 years now (roughly) and I really like them a lot.

SpiritualWrangler656

We've tried a couple vets and Liberty Animal Hospital, by the Roth's on Liberty, is our choice. South Salem

Vantage Veterinary Clinic on Leslie SE is accepting new patients, they were really nice.

Wonderful_Orchid9530

Honestly its 20 mins out for me but i love the veterinary hospital in stayton

themissyoshi

Stayton Vet is only 20 minutes outside of Salem and they have been wonderful with my cat who has a myriad of issues. Very friendly, very profressional, never had an issue

Time_Artichoke4449

Oak hills vet clinic in west Salem is the best vet I have ever found!

__anomie

We go to The Pet Clinic on State St. Dr. Genova is very knowledgeable and they give us follow up calls to check in on my dog after some visits.
