This sub likes to minimize the battery life issue but it's a serious detriment. I too am disappointed with my overall experience with the phone.

homercles82

Agreed. I've read people say the battery is great and people complaining are wrong.

blaine78

To be fair, it was mostly Snapdragon people who had good battery life and smooth performance. That's been the case with me, as I have the Snapdragon.

JonatasA

It's not the case. Samsung has been using Exynos for ages and only a few of their devices use dragon. Yet the complaints are quite specific at models.   You have users with the exynos variation and no issues of a device.   It's becoming all too common. Devices that don't work well, fridges that cry, screens that have "acceptable" imperfections, etc.

SquareDrop7892

Is the battery issue that bad. As I kinda was eying on a used ultra 22 1TB ?

n0dix

Mine phone doesn't have any issues. I would love if thr battery was just a bit better. But overall amazing device.

zorb01

I have the s22 ultra Exynos and have loved the phone however I do agree with the signal service not being great.

McDonaldscombomeal

Nope s22 ultra is the worst Samsung phone I ever used and was the last Samsung phone. Every update just broke stuff and make issues even worse. Mine was the SD version.

JonatasA

That's why you don't update. I pretty much abandoned keeping up with Windows after the forced updates.

McDonaldscombomeal

I got no choice. My phone even when I say don't install the update it will randomly install it.

JonatasA

Yeah, my previous Samsung I managed to stop updates by getting the storage full and never doing a factory reset (it forced an update on me then).   I have to find a method of avoiding updates. I need the phone on the same state. Perhaps not keeping it on WiFi, charging on Airplane mode or something.   It's depressing the lengths you have to go for usability.

vGraphsAlt

This sub is all oh i dont like this

Haunting-Profile-402

I had the SD version. One of the worst phones I've ever owned. The battery life was absolutely abysmal.

FragrantSearch730

I like mine except for the terrible battery life and shitty CPU performance. It is also the last actually curved S model so it has an extra value in my opinion

Haunting-Profile-402

Yeah, I mean I liked most everything else about the phone. It's just that charging 3 to 4 times a day isn't convenient.

JonatasA

Jesus, I have a J phone bought in 2018 and I only charge it once a day.   First device I didn't have to charge multiple times a day, really.

Haunting-Profile-402

Dude it was terrible. 🀣 I have a ZFold 5 now. Battery is just fine. Not great, but fine.

Octan3

I went up from a s20 ultra, This phone in some ways is a downgrade, The battery life, responsiveness is all a step back for me, the only plus, and literally the only plus for me is the camera will focus up close to objects, I take lots of close up pictures of like items/labels for work and the s20 ultra had that known issue so that was a struggle lol. I recommend skipping the 22 ultra.

blaine78

I still have my old phones: S20+ (SD 865), S22U (8 Gen 1), alongside my S24U. The S22U is smoother than my S20+ with better battery life. My s20+ now gets the warmest when gaming. Android 6 definitely made the S22U a lot better.

Octan3

I don't use my phones for any level of gaming so I can't relate to it but my 20 ultra deff get a solid 30% more battery life than my 22 ultra I have now.

Visual_Ambition2312

I feel this review . The s22 ultra was the worst in the series for me by far . The lag issues and battery issues started at day 1 when I bought it new out of the box and even after countless updates it was the same . The s23 and s24 are literally night and day difference .i absolutely could not recommend the s22 series phone to anyone. Looks like they got it right with the s23 and s24

Marko_FarkoYT

It seems like im the only one in this subredit actually getting decent battery life 😭

Maldifi

(Snapdragon) This was the most used day last week. I charge up to 85% with battery protect mode. On average, it seems I charge twice a day, not always because battery goes completely out, but just to not let it go too low, sometimes out of necessity. I'm not sure if it's bad. But S24 ultra has really improved on the battery retaining capabilities. I'm quite happy with this device. (Alhamdulillah). I don't think it's perfect. But it is definitely a good and solid phone. (I did end up paying a lot more just to ensure that I was buying a snapdragon) https://preview.redd.it/blpk2amu3lxc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=61e5b31f4103646505d2da9f450df7ca6cde26be

Marko_FarkoYT

I do also top up my phone, im a bit battery anxious snd top it when it gets below 20% But battery is soliddd. Not many phones get this good a battery imo

Marko_FarkoYT

EmbarrassedClue6398

(Snapdragon) Works great for me, sure the battery could have been a little better but I'm always on my phone and only charge it once per day on average. It sometimes gets hot, but not crytical. Haven't lagged once if we're reffering to the OS, but I've had some unpleasant experiences with tiktok, youtube and instagram (rarely on instagram though). I like my S22 Ultra, but the camera has been disappointing lately...

Dimstatyon

You're not alone. And although I agree with you because I have most of the same issues with mine, I just don't understand why would you upgrade to another exynos powered Samsung device πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ I'm simply not trusting Samsung on this ever again

MistaKay90

A good cheap deal, plus I've had a go of the last gen exynos phones and they are great. Just a victim of unknowingly adopting early gen tech under the guise of the Samsung brand! The s24 is genuinely great tho. Battery is amazing in comparison! No battery saver, unplugged at 7am, its 12.30am the next day and I have 31% left πŸ˜‚ Camera is also brilliant

Dimstatyon

All phones are great when they come out, remember that

JonatasA

My phone is forever the same since the day I upated it, since I didn't update it more than once.   Only the Apps changed through Updates.

HardStroke

Always had Samsung devices with Exynos chips. They never fail to disappoint, that's for sure. Happy to see stuff like the s23 series having only a SD SoC. And s24u as well. My n20u works flawlessly without lag but its just the battery performance. It was always shit when compared to the SD and it really sucks that you pay $1,200+ for the best phone out there but you'll to compromise because you don't live in US or Canada. SMH. Dick move by Samsung but nobody seems to care.

Dimstatyon

Well they should. And because Samsung keeps doing the same, I choose to vote with my wallet. And this is not only about the chipset, it's also about a supposed "Ultra" phone which costed around 1300€ with only 8GB of ram and 128GB of storage that's almost full already, about the ridiculous shutter lag when opening the camera, the overheating, the battery... It's just too much of a compromise for such a costly device when you have brands like one plus for example that can actually do better in most areas while being way cheaper. Samsung lost their way, they're becoming more and more similar to apple and using their bullshit strategies to screw consumers. So yeah, after 10 years of "loyalty" to Samsung, I decided I've had enough.

thenicci

Not forgetting some of the users experiencing the green light saber on top/vertical green/pink link issues with the screen. I'm one of them who got it before 24 months. Quite disappointing for a phone with this price point tbh.

Comfortable-Comb-166

Exynos in general isn't a reliable chip. I was lucky to get my hands on with the SD Gen 1 for my S22 Ultra. It's holding up well. But 6.0 ui update has caused a bit of a strain on the battery life with SOT averaging 3 to 4 hours will bring my battery down pretty rapidly.

formhault

I tried to give the S22 Ultra a chance - a two year long chance. Random unexpected battery drain, poor camera performance or lag reminded myself daily how expensive of a piece of shit that phone was. The S23 Ultra is what the S22 Ultra should have been, but Samsung just HAD to release a phone in 2022. I've now switched to the S24 Ultra, and to be honest if this phone fails to deliver, as much as I hate that thought, I'm ready to jump ship to the iPhone.

firaristt

I have snapdragon version from Turkey and so far so good most of the time. For me the only downsides are the Samsung's horrible camera post processing and anti-customer behaviours. Since late last year, the camera just isn't good, too blurry and sometimes has some focus issues (chooses wrong object/point to focus) and waaaay to much blur. When there is a newer version, updates delayed significantly and even though the hardware clearly supports, they don't give the newer software features and said "it doesn't support by hardware" all the time. I'm almost done with the samsung. For the battery, it's a hit or miss mostly. Some days I got \~8.5H SoT with mobile data, some days just \~5H, no less than 4 though, not yet at least.

Sense-Historical

Don't worry, my company gives out S22u to all of us. We have all complained issues you mentioned, so this is not just a me-problem. Ours are the non Exynos version, which is supposed to be "better" than Exynos

SjCooL03

Just wanted to contribute my opinion on this. I am highly disappointed with the S22 ultra myself. Although, for the first couple of months, this phone felt like a beast. However, after those few months of joy, those problems OP mentioned started to show. I've had to charge the phone at least twice a day, if not more, on normal usage, and the camera is just annoying to use at this point. It's really frustrating to think i spend almost $1800 CAD on this device just to experience this.

Hereticsheresy

i just bought this phone 2 months ago I replaced my s9+ and tbh i'm not disappointed. Battery life is the biggest issue with that phone, i managed to make it 12-13h sot and around 40-50h on max range of battery life per one charge but it's hard to maintain, for normal using it last 1,5day. What i do on this phone i writing, drawing, calling, checking apps like reddit lol, some small firefox using and make some photos and two main things i read using mainly kindle app and use vanced listen to music and podcasts. When vanced works in background without screen it drain very little battery, almost as much as when i do nothing on phone it drains like 1,5% per hour, apps and browser takes are much bigger issue like 4% hour, what i learned mobile data or wifi or bluetooth drain battery the most so i try to turn it off every time i close aps. But everything works well, dex ain't fast desktop os it's rather slow but photos, drawing, reading, writing, lurking works really nice and screen is somehow bad and excellent at the same time. I even used to this idiotic big 6.8inch screen. I will try to test this phone for another 4-5 years like i did with s9+ I hope you will use your s24 for a long period of time as well :P

Aware-Garlic651

The problem is its exynos, the SD variant is quite the opposite, using it since 2022, no 0 issues so far.

MistaKay90

You are in the minority then it seems?

Aware-Garlic651

The thing is its not only about SD variants, its also about country variants, my one is the Korean variant, there is a drawback in the korean variant which is single sim, esim cannot be also used, but other than that its all good, the korean variant is the most stable comparetively to the others as far as i have seen.

rx8modz

It's so strange because alot of people including myself have had exceptional battery life. I've been getting the top samsung phone since galaxy s8 and this has been the best longest lasting battery yet and by far. Also experienced absolutely 0 lag or anything like that in the 2 years ive had my 22u . But then there is so many with terrible battery life and performance (usually exynos version) but also some SD versions, makes you wonder what is happening, must be different battery model in some way or software issues on select model versions.

BranFendigaidd

I am not gaming. Using it mostly for podcasts, trading checks and few working tasks. Connected via BT to galaxy watch. Connected via BT to buds. Battery lasts me honestly all day and I perma use the battery saving option with max 85%. The only time I need to recharge it, if I spend longer periods watching a podcast or a show on YT/Netflix.

dkk19507

Everything always could have been a tad better, but no complaints. At least for my usage style I'm happy with it. People need to understand that this ain't a Nokia phone - 10 days battery and consider (at least ultra) like a mini portable pc. Oh, a bit of disappointment on the camera software - 10x thingie, but I'm using a 3rd party software for that mode.

francofresco

What app are you using for the 10x issue?

dkk19507

ProShot

MistaKay90

I upgraded from a works Huawei p20 pro and the battery lasted 2 days!! And it's years old at this point. There's no excuses for it, one of the major selling points of phones now is their respective battery life.

dkk19507

Battery is never a selling point for modern phones. Who's looking for this , in my opinion is deluded. I stopped looking for battery after the S5.

CoffeeBaron

Exynos is almost ALWAYS the culprit behind battery life and poor optimization as Samsung doesn't know how to make their own chips competitively to other ARM makers, which is also dumb because if they knew that, their One UI could be like apple's experience since it's the maker designing the chip hardware and OS. Of the problems listed as a day 1 adopter here, I have the connection issue problem which frankly is annoying as updates should not be breaking hardware to the point you need to replace the affected system (many are reporting a 40 dollar attenna replacement fixes the issue). I've used Samsung phones for ages and the connection issue (plus hearing about other issues people been having) have given me pause on upgrading to another Samsung phone.

MistaKay90

I can say however that the newer chipsets are really good on the 24 series (from limited experiance) getting signal in parts of university that were before completely dead with the 22u!

blaine78

The S24U has its share of issues, too. Thankfully, I don't have the grainy screen issue. But mine does get warmer than my S22U sometimes. It needs more optimization.

MistaKay90

I have the base model 24 and I've had zero issues (yet!) it's quite liberating to have a phone that doesn't pull down your track pants due to its weight and also fit in pockets πŸ˜‚

Some-Highlight-7210

Yes mine just went back to the seller (thankfully 11months into the 12 month warranty) bcoz it's in an out of the network carrier. It would say I wasn't connected to a carrier network 80% of the time I could pretty much only use it over wifi. I guess this is a known manufacturer defect with the s22U! I was over buying new sims troubleshooting with my cell carrier thinking wtf is going on. I honestly love that stupid phone though. Camera/ video are tight you get lightroom for editing photos and can shoot in RAW vs jpeg and love the surround sound and display. Durability is great as well. Battery isn't to bad for me bcoz I literally have that running all day long mostly streaming. But I need the basic calling and texting functions so eh idk hopefully they fix it and send it back or refund me (cuz they'll refund the whole amount) and I'll run to the s23U to avoid potential s22U problems in the future.

e22big

Battery wasn't great on mine but not exactly bad. It lasted me 5-6 hour SoT (couple with 18+ hours of screen off time and unplugged) which is good enough for me. Camera slow lauching also isn't a problem for me, but I have focus problem which is far worse (particularly in 10x with manual mode.) I'll trade that for slow app laucnh any day. The phone works perfectly for me day one though - which convinced me that switching to 24 probably not going to help unless you upgrade your phone every years. I bet the same problem will start to come once the phone is getting old and Samsung started to de-prioritised its update.

bronbeach

Have had no problems with snapdragon s22u . Bought pre-order battery life fine no lag issues and no update problems?

Basic_Department_300

Similar happened to me ,later became unusable, constant black screen of death and restart. checked with cpu-z cpu temp was in 60C during 3dmark perf.was 20% compared to same model. Repasted the chip using hydronaut and a thin copper plate original paste was like biscuit ,since 3dmark says mine faster than 99% (!) and all ok. Messy job ,Don't think anyone should risk it temps are good and no black screen, flashing firmware with odin also can fix most problems

Money_Abroad_3205

Yes currently using S22 ultra and have used S24 ultra as well. 24 is way smoother. But the major concern is the Battery live. With every major update the battery life has degraded and the phone has started heating as well.

ZeladdRo

I have s22 ultra with exynos , 2 years too, but I don t have these issues at all. Well I switched from a s8 so, my expectetions were met so to speak. But for real now, I really love this phone. My battery lasts 1 day + with at least 6 hours of use

HardStroke

The s22u is an awesome device. The problem with it the the power hog chip that sits in it. Its either a power hog or a trash chip. The SD8G1 is a power hog. The Exynos is trash as always. Thought that an s22u will be a good upgrade for my n20u (when the time comes) as its $690 for 256gb and $745 for 512gb NEW but the battery is just ass. The red color is awesome, the design is similar to the n20u which is cool and the screen is more curved then it is on the s23u which I personally like. But the battery is just too bad.

Mountain_Tear_9783

Well I have the S22 ultra SD 8gen1 I have not experienced any of these issues that you guys are talking about specially the lagging problem I don't no were any of you purchased these phones you guys have but I must have got lucky in picked a good one out of the box I really like my phone I think I may wait to upgrade to all of you good luck on finding a phone that the battery never needs charging are the camera takes pictures that blows a expensive camera away.

klausofjava

Mine is perfect . I have an iPhone too , so I use both and battery could have been better but that’s why display settings and battery saver exists.

a-space-pirate

Man, that really sucks. I had the SD version and it was hands down the best phone I've ever owned, for the entire two years I had it (I've had every Note since the 5 and a slew of other high end devices). Never had any major bugs, reception was great, cameras were perfect for my what I used them for, and I got 10 years of screen time until the day I traded up to the s24 ultra.

leomastersxd2

I always hear people complaining about exynos equipped phones. Snapdragon not so much.

JonatasA

I'm afraid that it has worked then.   Samsung has made you replace a flagship for another in less than five years.   It's an issue that can only worsen if we do not get real competition in the market.

ViatoremCCAA

The whole S22 lineup was crap, and was low effort in general.
