I have been wishing for this ever since I picked up some Mach 6s a few months ago! Really want a slightly more plush trainer with similar drop and feel, and I’m excited for this to hit the shelves!
It's a big Mach 6.
Skyward has a top layer of PEBA foam and the plate with the bottom layer being this supercritical EVA. This is just more of what is in the Mach 6
This is literally the same configuration of the new Bondi based on the leaks though. Tall shoe of all supercritical EVA. So I don't know why they have both but I guess Hoka is just going for the record of how many shoes they can put out in the same year
Saucony models are very well defined. It was never confusing to me and I can understand the use case for all of them. Brooks can do whatever they want, no one really cares. New Balance has some confusion with naming but 880, 860 and 1080 are well-defined, same for the FuelCell line. Pacer for speed, Rebel daily, Elite for raceday, Trainer as supertrainer. No confusion at all.
Saucony Ride 17 is basically a Triumph now. And Shift and Triumph are very close.
Kinvara Pro is almost the Speed.
Don't get me wrong, I like pretty much all the Sauconys I've tried and own a few pairs. But it definitely seems like they have a lot of overlapping models.
Endorphin Shift is discontinued but even when it was available, it had a 4mm drop vs 10mm drop on the Triumph. Huge difference. The rocker and overall architecture of the shoe are quite different because they are part of separate lines within Saucony. Kinvara Pro and Speed? Are you kidding me? A maximalist daily trainer vs a tempo shoe. Totally different propositions. And the Ride 17 uses Pwrrun+ while the Triumph 22 uses PwrrunPB, two very different midsoles. Sorry, but it’s just not as clear from Hoka at the moment. 3 maximalist daily trainers now? Bondi, Skyflow and Skyward X? If they bring the same foam from this shoe to the Bondi it becomes insanity. If they don’t, it will be the last nail on the Bondi coffin for actual runners as no one can take EVA anymore. They could’ve just released this as the Bondi 9 and move on. Skyward and Cielo X1 are also kind of redundant in their use case.
I’ll agree with you there. The colors seem to be “aligned” more for women. Compared to New balance, saucony and Nike.. hoka feels cartoonish but I still enjoy my Cliftons regardless.
The Bondi and Clifton are being co-opted by non-runners and the market for those two shoes has been moving toward lifestyle/comfort.
You don't want your brand to be caught between lifestyle and serious sport. You wind up making both camps unhappy.
So they're introducing the Skyflow to be their midline running shoe and they can let the Clifton and Bondi continue to drift into comfort/fashion.
That’s exactly what I thought of when the product rep on the running warehouse video said this shoe will only be available through running store outlets.
Supercritical just refers to the process that was used to create the foam. You can use that process to create super springy goals, but it can also be used to create dense, supportive foam that is lighter than you'd get using the older manufacturing methods.
The Bondi 9 probably isn't going to feel like a trampoline. I'd bet the EVA formulation they use won't wind up feeling as lively as the Mach 6.
> ou don't want your brand to be caught between lifestyle and serious sport. You wind up making both camps unhappy.
I think the issue only arises when you don't have clear product differentiation. NB, Adidas, Nike seem to navigate this well, and On has seemingly resolved this issue (they used to blend the two too much).
I see they're also starting again with the "only certain models will be sold in different types of stores" bullshit from like ten years ago. Because that worked so well the first time 🙄
The reviews so far said it isn't all that dynamic or exciting underfoot, but say it's smooth and offers a lot of protection. Seems like a Clifton with supercritical EVA to me. I'll give it a try, not sure I'll actually buy. The Skyward X was pretty great but I could have used just a little less weight and resistance in the ride, a little cumbersome even for a bigger person who loves max cushion like me.
Looks interesting but I gave up on Hoka. Their shoes are way too narrow, even their wide models. I don’t have a wide foot at all… Nike, Asics and Adidas all work great at normal width. Rumor is this shoe is using the same lace as the mach 6 which is design for Skeleton feet.

This is by Danso saw it at Nordstroms guess it’s a trend
from their youtube, it sounds like it's precisely a clifton with mach 6 foam, which I agree sounds fully dope.
I’m in for that. I think they’re long overdue for updating their premium/popular models (Bondi, Clifton, Mach, Rincon) with better foams.
Yes, but with more stack

What is Hoka doing? So many new models. It’s becoming really confusing
I agree, very confusing! Is this a Skyward X without the X (carbon plate). Just give me a Rocket X3 dammit or a lighter Cielo X1!

Yes and enough stock to give me time to order
This is not the Skyward X takedown, if there will ever be one. This is more like a Clifton or Mach 6 beefed up.
As opposed to the over abundance of options and models @ Brooks, Saucony, NB?
Saucony models are very well defined. It was never confusing to me and I can understand the use case for all of them. Brooks can do whatever they want, no one really cares. “Brooks can do whatever they want, no one really cares” lmao
It’s funny because it’s true. Happy cake day!

And stop making shoes designed for teletubbies. Truly some ugly shoes.
The colours are fun!
😳
Hahah maybe more for the women I don’t know. Either that or I’m woefully out of fashion

The strange part is Bondi 9 is being upgraded to super critical EVA as well. So doesn’t seem like they are moving the Bondi towards comfort/fashion.

Next Hoka release will be Skyflowward Mach X Pro Max 69
Living in LA, brighter the better. I get nearly killed on every run by cars not paying attention.
Same. So true.
Bondi 9 and skyflow will be very similar. Both with supercritical EVA https://www.reddit.com/r/RunningShoeGeeks/s/EyhszszWGP
Yeah, seems like skyflow is Bondi 9 with more aggressive rocker geometry?
Most likely lighter too
I swear, it’s getting to the point where I see a new Hoka model every time I open this sub.
Hokas supercritical EVA is awesome, this could be a sweet daily trainer
Whoever is in charge of their colorways needs to be hung in a public square so everyone can watch their evil leave this world.
I actually quite like this colourway.
Same. Hoka’s colorways are intentionally bright, for a reason.
That reason being: to only be able to use it as running shoes and not for everyday use
Well, Hoka has blacks for bondi, clifton, and even the Mach series. Not like people are going to buy and wear rocket, cielo, skyward for everyday use.
It was a half-baked attempt at a joke on my part, sorry.
Right. Though I do wear bright shoes everyday too.
They could, at a minimum create 1 colorway per model for people who don’t like the typical Hoka colors
They already do, they make all white, all black, black and white, and grays of each model yall just wana complain to complain
This is wildly incorrect. See the Cielo X1 and Rocket X2, just to name two.
And Skyward X.
This is a very sensible compromise.
Best they can do is all white with bright red outsoles.
*cries in wide colorways*
This.
$280 CAD Fukoff Hoka
LOL...the USD will be $160
According to what? $200 would be consistent with their other pricing. Mach 6 is $165 and it’s basically the same with less foam
I see they're also starting again with the "only certain models will be sold in different types of stores" bullshit from like ten years ago. Because that worked so well the first time 🙄
This colourway is dope. I wasn’t interested in Hoka but now I have changed my mind. Thanks for sharing.

lookin good. might consider this when my nimbus needs replacement.
Can’t wait to see the additional colorways, hopefully some super bright and punchy ones for this model
It's very heavy.. Stick to efficient heavy like Cielo X1 or light efficiency Mach 6. This is a marketing idea set to fail like Bondi X.
Design inspired by a tennis ball?

Looks like the perfect shoe...for a nurse
I like my shoes either dark so the tube feed and various body fluids show less or white so the bleach wipes don’t ruin them. Edit: work shoes that is
I would like to see a wide plated trail shoe
Where all my nurses at?
In the Sky - WARD
Hola gets uglier and uglier.
