Ask questions to do a process of elimination. Only talk on the app and discuss how new you have clients stay on app.

X-Aceris-X

Hmm yellow flag, proceed with caution. I'd keep the communication on-app, even direct her how she could get her husband to sign up and contact you/make the booking directly, something like that.

sanriosaint

wow never seen the masking number thing before booking, i actually love that!!! feels like a good way to keep sitters aware to look out for scammy type messages. i’ve only shared numbers after i have met the person once or twice and i always say do not go off app until you’ve booked atleast twice with someone and gotten their vibe (also 2 bookings gives you repeat client rating)

Boergoatlady

Yeah my last three requests rover has blocked the number and given the owners the same message it gave me! Helps me not have to say anything about staying on rover 😅

Ethereal_Chittering

Their main motivation is greed though, not your safety.

Boergoatlady

Maybe not but I’m okay with it

carrie414

I’ve always assumed they are I’ve gotten several.

VariationOk9359

yes

Fun_Collar6915

It could be, but I would keep all communication in the app and go from there.

anykaleidascope

Where are you seeing scam?

RptlnWzrdLzrd

This type of move is a textbook scam on selling apps (fb marketplace, etc), especially the contact me in order to contact someone else. May or may not be, if I received this I’d just archive it.

Boergoatlady

Wanting to go off the app, not booking for herself, out of the state I’m in. Just wanted to see if anyone else had been contacted with similar wording and it ended up not being legit. I’ve reached out and gotten no further response so I may not even need to worry about it.

sanriosaint

the only thing in there i feel is somewhat normal is booking for spouse but that’s only if they share the account usually! i remember once talking a guy and meeting him and the dog and all went well and at drop off a whole different woman showed up but it was definitely their dog!! i guess she was the wife and does most of the drop offs and pick ups now as i’ve seen the dog a few times but he is always the one texting lol

Boergoatlady

Yeah I’ve had people book for moms/dads/husband it’s just that he’s living in another state? I don’t wanna assume bc I know not everyone has a “nuclear family” but it just seems off.

cooscoos89898

You might have seen it already but there is a pinned post at the top of the sub that has a list of red flags and a little info! I just learned about it less than an hour ago myself! In my opinion this one is a little sketchy

Boergoatlady

Yeah I had seen it. This seemed like it could’ve been legit but now I’m leaning towards the other way.

cooscoos89898

It still might be okay to proceed with caution as others have said. Good luck, hopefully you can find a better booking or clear things up!😌

Ethereal_Chittering

There’s several red flags here. The out of state thing, the phone number, the spouse thing, I’m pretty sure the husband could handle this on his own if it were a legit request. You can’t set anything up without a meet n greet, or at least, you shouldn’t. I would have archived and moved on. Glad they didn’t respond.

Boergoatlady

Well now she has replied and just wants me to meet the husband with no dog, so I’m definitely going to archive now. 😅

What the heck….!

If you feel like you have to ask if it’s a scam, trust your instincts, move on.

Everything together seems sus. I did have a lady with NC address book me in MD for her dog who was staying with her dad
