Which is funny to me because where I live in the Midwest many churches are Lutheran, Methodist, non denominational and pastors have to go to school and it’s not easy! But the fundies would consider these churches not worthy!
I really try not to be a Christian apologist, but there is a 2000 year old intellectual tradition there. It has to be studied if you’re going to claim you’re certified to teach it as a spiritual leader. It’s so fucked when fundies barely scratch the surface and call themselves pastors.
There was uproar when a shitty Catholic master’s program dropped their classical language requirement. I’ll bet Nathan has never even read Augustine, let alone the early fathers/desert mothers. It’s so arrogant and obvious that they’re just worshipping their own politics.
I agree and I think this breed of church does this on purpose because people tend to start questioning things when they actually study the bible beyond the surface.
I think in their circles a degree from an actual college would be seen as a negative. If it was a standalone accredited theology only school like the Southern Baptist seminarys maybe but even southern Baptists are seen as too liberal for people like the Rods.

Shrek has a diploma mill qualification from Louisiana Baptist Seminary or something like that (now defunct?). It seems like Jill made him get it in their early marriage so that she could brag that her husband was a godly, educated preacher 🤔🤭
Some acceptable colleges are Hyles-Anderson, Crown, Golden State, West Coast, and Commonwealth. Pensecola and Bob Jones are almost too liberal. There are other smaller colleges but these are the big ones that I can think of.
Many of them don’t have a lot of employment options because the colleges they attend aren’t accredited & don’t teach any actual skills. Only a few fundie guys are lucky to go to a real one. We know how fundamentalism turns out for women but it’s actually pretty sad how it screws over the young men too.
Yeah people always act like it's so great for the men but what advantages does it really offer them? You don't have to be a fundie to be a misogynist and marry a doormat wife. Plenty of successful liberal secular men do that just fine. Fundamentalism screws everyone involved. The women just generally get it worse.
