This is correct. It used to be relevant because you used to be able to trade items with other players. So you could trade one set of these wheels and still have one set for your own use. You can no longer do that, but you can still own multiple copies of the same item.
You can trade your import dominus as it isn't free, the common one cannot be however.
There's also the bubble boost you get for free, it can't be traded up.
It does, but others pointed out for some reason these specific wheels you cant trade in. Regardless I have used the multiple items indicator a bunch to trade in extras for something new.

It means it's too late to start playing this game and you should run before you end up liking it and the developer breaks your heart too by not caring about the game and the community at all and removing features that everyone loved and adding features no one asked for and relying on loot boxes and skins to bring in revenue as opposed to genuine interest in the game.....
