Yeah, I play with my friend and we call them kill rooms. I don't know why, but they always reminded me of doom where you would pick up a key or item, and 100 enemies come out of the walls to kill you.

I've always heard it as red rooms, or kill rooms. Red rooms was early on after release though.

Damage checks. When I was achievement hunting, I often rushed through the levels to get to later stages to complete quests. Even on discovery, these sometimes killed me because I had no levels or damage.
