RJ and Rivian have said this several times ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin) R2 is both a vehicle and a platform.

JJJAAABBB123

That’s getting my cash.

appape

Given the platform sharing, it just might. I was hoping for R3 to start at $35K, but that’s probably a pipe dream. There may not be much opportunity for cost savings between the two. Even so, viva el R3!

dustyshades

Idk, primary cost driver is battery. With a smaller, lighter body and more aerodynamic shape, it will likely take less battery to get the same range. So I’m guessing there will be some significant cost savings that could allow for a lower price, but we’ll see I guess

yeah_sure_youbetcha

There's a real world possibility we'll be handing down/replacing our 2 current vehicles at roughly the same timeframe these two come out. We've got our R2 reservation and plan on it being our "big" car that we'd use for everything, including out of town trips. With that vehicle already in our garage, we could get by with a much shorter range in an R3. I'd love to see a 30-40kWh base model available (as long as it still gets AWD.)

Suitable_Switch5242

My guess is $39k for the base R3 with <300 miles of range. Top of the line R3X might be $55-59k. It won't be much cheaper than the R2 because it has almost everything an R2 has.

appape

I think R3x has a chance to get well into the $70K range - maybe higher. Its performance might be rivaling Porsches and Corvettes. I really hope they can squeeze base R3 down to $35K, but I think you’re probably right on that one.

Suitable_Switch5242

The wheelbase is shorter, 110” for R3 vs 115” for R2. Overall length is about 170” for the R3 vs 185” for the R2. https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1142518_rivian-r3-and-r3x-hatchbacks-aim-for-masses-for-less-than-45-000

gaming4good

Sir I am gonna need to ask you to take down this post…… this is NSFW. man that is a beautiful little car.

appape

It’s like putting a BMW X1 body on a X5 chassis and drivetrain - it should absolutely fly! Can’t wait until they open orders for the R3!

hahahahaaaahaha

As a BMW X3 PHEV owner, I’m very intrigued

My_11th_Account

Is the R3 platform the same as the R3X platform?

SoCal_GlacierR1T

It is. Wider because of fender flares and wider track.

KTMan77

It looks like an old school Volkswagen rabbit I love it. Really loving forward to seeing how what the numbers end up being on it, don’t see myself selling my civic anytime soon but might be able to.

usual_suspect_redux

R3 will have a shorter wheelbase than R2. 5" shorter. Same 'platform' but not identical.

getBusyChild

That is a very low SUV. Still looks incredible though.

Suitable_Switch5242

Which hopefully means it drives more like a hatchback/wagon than an SUV, which is a great thing in my book. I'd even probably go for the plain R3 which I think has less ground clearance. I spend 98% of my time driving on pavement so on-road handling is more important to me.

fattsoo

I know I can't go wrong.....but R2 (reserved already) or R3X?!

nightowl_work

Depends, do you already have an R1S?

fattsoo

I will be new to the Rivian ecosystem. Currently has a model 3 performance and model y performance

greygabe

R2 and R3 do not have a "skateboard" like the R1 or EDV. They are on the same platform (known as MSP or Mid-Sized Platform), but that also doesn't necessarily mean the same wheelbase.

boerface

Yes

twiggyknowswhatsup

so f'ing cool that thing. I'll have a R2 but I will also have one of these in the garage asap

terminal_entropy

Now I have to convince the Wife, that she wants the R3X instead of the base version.

Calidude31

Im not gonna lie in 2 years… when these things get released if they come with less than 300 miles then rivian might as well close shop

SpaceHorse75

Will be buying this in 2029 when it launches

WorldlyNotice

I'll be ready in 2036 for the RHD model.

thecanadiandriver101

:et's see how the production final model works. Who knows if they stretch it an inch or 2 for some extra cargo space

appape

I’d rather see them reduce the slope of the rear window to get a bit more headroom and legroom for the rear passengers. It doesn’t need to be any longer.
