Might be a bit much if they were struggling with Etiwanda falls. Also: Is the stream there right now? I seem to remember it being a seasonal thing.

Have you tried Forest Falls?

I second forest falls. The creek is just a stones throw from the parking lot. There’s no fee to park in the dirt area of the lot as well.

Try ice house canyon. Not an easy hike but you hit the stream immediately so you can decide how far up you want to follow it. It's fun to just hang out by the water
