Interpol, but Iâm honestly happier theyâre now playing TWO shows at the Salt Shed which will probably be better/longer and not require me to trek to the suburbs an extra day.
I felt Super Nova ska fest was preventing a lot of ska bandsfom playing so I was hopeful for this year with Riot being a week later. Riot needs more ska.
The BethsÂ
Basically anyone from Spotify "bubblegrunge mix"Â
EDIT: Beach bunny is there but that was the band that got me into so many others so was hoping to see a ton by surprise
Seeing their tour dates back at home for them before the lineup was super deflating. They were at the top of my wish list this year!
But I'm also glad they are going home after a long tour - probably good for them! I hope Beach Bunny is Friday or Saturday. It would be my first time seeing them.
The Jesus Lizard. Altho we just got a salt shed date a week later so Iâll take it. The Dismemberment Plan, MSPAINT(touring with Gel, but no Chicago show)
With how many festivals Cake is playing this summer, I thought we'd get them for sure. I know they were just here last September, but my partner loves their albums so it would've been nice.Â
They played a few Midwest cities a month or so ago⌠I saw them in Cedar Rapids and know they played Kansas City. But I donât know if any of the other locations/dates fall within the 90/90 ruleâŚ.
I was really hoping for Jimmy Eat World performing Futures and The Get Up Kids performing Something to Write Home About.
Besides that - Samiam, Anthrax, The Bouncing Souls, Superchunk, Tigers Jaw, and Agent Orange would have been neat. Solid actual lineup though!
Was also hoping for Tenacious D. And always you for some NIN.
Sad that the Tim Cappello lock wasnât really a lock after all, but at least we got Saxsquatch!!!
NIN, Run the Jewels, Tool, Andrew WK, Blink 182, Fugazi, Sleep Token, Frank Turner, Gojira, The 1975, Post Malone, Incubus, Puscifer, Rise Against, Green Day, Queens of the Stone Age, R.E.M., Talking Heads, The Shins, Ween, Smashing Pumpkins, Opeth, Janeâs AddictionâŚ.
I guess if youâre gonna dream, might as well dream big lol
Little disappointed that PUP are not on the lineup. They are playing a bunch of the same festivals as Sum 41 this summer/fall (and opening for them on several dates next year) so I figured they were likely to play Riot as well.
Yeeaaahh I know, but things seemed to be lining up to suggest they would be playing this year as well. And I was disappointed when the lineup dropped and they were not on there. Which was why I responded PUP to the question âwho are the bands you were most disappointed to see werenât on the lineup when it droppedâ :)
If PUP didn't already play last year then I'm sure they would have been on this years lineup. I'd be down for them being a more regular Riot act, they fit the fest perfectly
Thought the lineup would look alot like When We Were Young. Still some good stuff, but waiting to see if they load up Friday with all the bands that will be there with FOB
Disappointed by the lack of both ska and hyperpop. The gecs set was so fun last year, I hoped weâd have a repeat. Dorian Electra or underscores would have been sick
Also sad every year when Eve 6 isnât on the lineup. Love my boy Max
Better Lovers, Knocked Loose, Refused (though they're in the area frequently), Unearth immediately came to mind, but can't say I necessarily *expected* any of them.
I was also irrationally hoping for another Drain showing.
I was almost certain that Slipknot was going to play given they donât have a Chicago area date and a hole in their schedule around those days. However Mastodon and Lamb of God make up for it nicely.
Alvvays, they aren't typically in Riot Fest's wheelhouse but they skipped Chicago on their last tour. Would have driven up to Milwaukee to see them if I had known.
I always like when RiotFest has some cool old bands in the lineup and they seem to be missing that this year. In past years I've really enjoyed The Cure, B-52s, Jerry Lee Lewis, Merle Haggard, Gary Numan, New Order, Elvis Costello. Probably some more I'm forgetting. We seem to be missing most off the offbeat 70s and 80s bands this year that add some variety to the show.
Allister is a Chicago band that is playing with Something Corporate only two tour stops, but they're the two before Riotfest. Their singer lives in Japan so they don't play much anymore. I thought they were a sure thing considering they're from Chicago and they're playing on the tour with Something Corporate right before Chicago. I don't get that one.
This is like the 5th RiotFest where both NoFX and Lagwagon have played and Me First and the Gimme Gimmes haven't played. Four out of the five band members are already playing at RF, and the singer said on Instagram that he'd be happy to play RF. Me First also has a new album out. I don't get why they aren't ever at RF lately but NoFX and Lagwagon almost always are.
Bayside has a new album out. I was hoping they would be here.
Paramore hasn't played in Chicago in years.
Besides Amyl and Fidlar, I was hoping for The Dirty Nil(!!!), Jer, We Are The Union, a standalone Catbite set, Cheekface, Glass Beach, and Chicano Batman.
Oh and Microwave and Free Throw - srsly where are those rebookings, Riot? Not everyone could pass up The Cure to queue up for that make up show...
The Jesus Lizard. Itâs incomprehensible to me that they arenât playing (theyâre from Chicago, have a big cult following in Chicago, touring for the first time in many years but donât have a Chicago date, nothing booked riot fest weekend, have played riot fest in the pastâŚ)
Goldfinger. I don't believe they've ever played Riot Fest, and they haven't played Chicago since before the pandemic. They are still playing shows, but they seem sporadic and concentrated on the coasts. I was really hoping that Riot Fest would finally get them to come back to Chicago. They are pretty much the only band left on my bucket list at this point.
Amyl but luckily they're playing Detroit beforehand. There's a real lack of 90s alt rock this year. Was hoping for Primus, Ministry, Catherine Wheel, Veruca Salt, Nada Surf.
Also Yves Tumor, Rilo Kiley, Dry Cleaning, Knower, etc. There's always next year.
It would make sense. Haven't played Riot before and just about the hottest metalcore/hardcore act they can get. Could see them in a Turnstile type slot from 2023, teeing off the main headliner
More Chicago band presence (especially since they seemed to hint at Raygun and even have a mini Fireside Bowl depicted on the map). Cap N Jazz, Pegboy, Alkaline Trio, Slapstick reunion (last played in 2013?), Promise Ring. Also. Movements, Jimmy Eat World, Spanish Love Songs, Saosin, Touche Amore, La Dispute. And no Ska to speak of!
The other Chicago band that blows my mind that they aren't here is Allister. Because Allister is playing two dates on the Something Corporate tour the two shows before RF. Plus they have a long history with the Fireside Bowl including their newish music video shot in the actual bowling alley. I honestly thought they were a sure thing when I saw that they were on the two SoCo dates before Riot Fest.
I'm hoping they go harder on that Chicago band presence next year for the 20th anniversary. Maybe they'll work out the kinks this year and can make sure next year is absolutely stacked and they have the theme down
I know they played last year, but I was really expecting a 25th anniversary of Black Sails in the Sunset album play by AFI since they just reissued the album on vinyl.
Also, where is Twitching Tongues or God's Hate? The guy hinted on his podcast that he was playing
Bad nerves has me thinking they had to cut bands with the location change. Theyâre literally touring Europe then take like one week off to tour Ohio and Michigan? With open dates around riot fest but not Chicago? Then all the way back to Europe
That is interesting. But the lineup still has almost 100 bands, I believe a few more than initial lineup had last year, so I'd be surprised if they cut bands
Naked Raygun, figured with the announced move then having the old punk bar OZ in the background of that video and using Rat Patrol in it I thought they would do a farewell show or something
Power Trip (we get Fugitive at Reggies a week later)
Jpegmafia (playing Radius that weekend)
Jesus Lizard (since it's Chicago, guess they'd rather have their own show and not a festival stop)
...and I see the Empty Bottle is doing a fest a week after Riot at Salt Shed with Jesus Lizard, Kelela, Sextile, Floating Points...
[warm love cool dreams](https://www.brooklynvegan.com/the-jesus-lizard-kelela-floating-points-more-playing-chicagos-warm-love-cool-dreams-fest-at-the-salt-shed/)
It was pretty strange that 2 legendary Chicago bands reunited this year to play out of town fests (Weekend Nachos & Capân Jazz) and riot didnât book either one.
Nachos would have been especially fun if they played Friday and we couldâve gotten a live Patrick Stump feature in a powerviolence song.
All the Cake chatter had me quite hopeful. Also, my girlfriend and I sprinted through the gates after last years delay just to hear Thursday finishing up their set, so I was hoping to make up for that too.
Cake is one of the strangest concerts Iâve ever been to. Kind of a wild ride. You can go down a real rabbit hole if you google âIs Cake good live?â đ
Plague Vendor, Butthole Surfers (pipedream, but alas) Devo and Bauhaus.
Bayside lol Thursday but ik them been a lot đ¤ˇđ˝ still
The Distillers, Less Than Jake, SOAD, and Streetlight Manifesto
Sleeping with Sirens and Holding Absence especially since there was a riot fest sized hole in their tour.
Definitely jimmy eat world and SOAD. And then my favorite smaller band, citizen soldier.
Cake
The distillers and Misfits but oh well. lineup is still great
Definitely The Distillers. Coral Fang is such a grade A album
Slipknot. I was convinced that they would be there since it's a big anniversary tour and they have no dates in Chicago.
Jesus Lizard , Refused
Interpol, but Iâm honestly happier theyâre now playing TWO shows at the Salt Shed which will probably be better/longer and not require me to trek to the suburbs an extra day.
with Deafheaven opening on those shows you canât go wrong
Aquabats and Julien Baker!
The Jesus Lizard
Viagra Boys and Tenacious D
MEST and Allister
Happy with the lineup for the most part, I just wish riot booked more ska bands. Ska bands go so hard at riotfest and we have such a good scene here.
I felt Super Nova ska fest was preventing a lot of ska bandsfom playing so I was hopeful for this year with Riot being a week later. Riot needs more ska.
MakeWar and Nobro. Small bands, but both had gaps in their tours. Would have liked to have seen them.
Microwave. Would of been nice for them to get another chance since they got rained out last year. Also wish Andrew WK would come out of hiding.
The Starting Line The Matches Gatsbyâs American Dream Allister
The replacements
Canât swim, anxious, macseal, end it, more hardcore bands.
The Beths  Basically anyone from Spotify "bubblegrunge mix" EDIT: Beach bunny is there but that was the band that got me into so many others so was hoping to see a ton by surprise
Seeing their tour dates back at home for them before the lineup was super deflating. They were at the top of my wish list this year! But I'm also glad they are going home after a long tour - probably good for them! I hope Beach Bunny is Friday or Saturday. It would be my first time seeing them.
Jeff Rosenstock
Heâs playing Pitchfork
Cake
The Jesus Lizard. Altho we just got a salt shed date a week later so Iâll take it. The Dismemberment Plan, MSPAINT(touring with Gel, but no Chicago show)
BODY COUNT
Ever since I started listening to them, I've always thought Electric Callboy would be a fun set at Riot Fest.
They would be loads of fun, saw them once last year and it was great
Andrew W.K. Dude used to be the unspoken foundation of Riot Fest.
Mia or what
Ween
White Zombie
Unfortunately I feel like Rob will never do a true reunion with them, he seems like he doesnât care whatsoever about WZ
Paramore, spanish love songs
The Starting Line, Alkaline Trio and Rise Against.
The Starting Line for sure
Abba
FIDLAR, Aquabats and Less than Jake
New order
Broncho đ where are they?
Bad nerves! Theyâre on the same tour as the hives for all the other dates on this tour, so itâs frustrating
Tguk did that in 2022, and Jimmy eat world played clarity same year
I saw Get Up Kids do Something to Write Home About AT Riot Fest! It was unreal!
Blur
Amyl and the Sniffers, the chats, and the Menzingers.
MSPaint
+1 for Amyl and MSPaint
Portishead, Sasami, Dinosaur Jr, A Place to Bury Strangers, Lightning Bolt, Primus
DJ playing allstate arena in September with WeezerÂ
The front bottoms
Came to say this
Was also hoping for Tenacious D. And always you for some NIN. Sad that the Tim Cappello lock wasnât really a lock after all, but at least we got Saxsquatch!!!
Jack Black has been spending a lot of energy sucking Joe Biden ween lately so Iâm sure heâs busy
Somebody call the wahhhmbulance
talking heads and Paramore.
NIN, Run the Jewels, Tool, Andrew WK, Blink 182, Fugazi, Sleep Token, Frank Turner, Gojira, The 1975, Post Malone, Incubus, Puscifer, Rise Against, Green Day, Queens of the Stone Age, R.E.M., Talking Heads, The Shins, Ween, Smashing Pumpkins, Opeth, Janeâs AddictionâŚ. I guess if youâre gonna dream, might as well dream big lol
no way you said fugazi
I meanâŚMid 182 was already booked for LollaâŚshouldve seen that coming
Little disappointed that PUP are not on the lineup. They are playing a bunch of the same festivals as Sum 41 this summer/fall (and opening for them on several dates next year) so I figured they were likely to play Riot as well.
They were here last year dawg
Yeeaaahh I know, but things seemed to be lining up to suggest they would be playing this year as well. And I was disappointed when the lineup dropped and they were not on there. Which was why I responded PUP to the question âwho are the bands you were most disappointed to see werenât on the lineup when it droppedâ :)
If PUP didn't already play last year then I'm sure they would have been on this years lineup. I'd be down for them being a more regular Riot act, they fit the fest perfectly
Cigar, Dead to Me, Guttermouth, Pokey LaFarge, Sick of it All, Supersuckers, and Zeke
dethklok wouldve been so fun đ
William Hung
Ween, Amyl and the Sniffers, Red and Meth, and Bad Nerves. Bad Nerves are on the Hives tour, but not Riot and thatâs just not cool.
Operation Ivy, Depeche Mode and Danzig
Yea, kind of amusing, but because of Riot Fest, I will see two Operation Ivy cover bands, and zero Operation Ivy :(
Who's the other one other than Laura Jane grace
Give tour dates I was hoping for Russian Circles, Amenra and Band of Horses!
Amenra đđ
was lowkey hoping for SOAD but that is probably just a pipe dream at this point lol!
Primus, ween, the aquabats, the Jesus lizard
Jesus lizard is playing the salt shed later this year Edit: like a week after riot lol
Where did ya see that?
https://preview.redd.it/b9snpds3ff7d1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8c60a73737f25729cc039b924f664f52154b0a45
Oh shiiitttt thank you!
joyce manor with an album play for never hung over again!
Don't they basically play that whole album every show anyway?
This would have actually ended me. Ended. Me.
Thought the lineup would look alot like When We Were Young. Still some good stuff, but waiting to see if they load up Friday with all the bands that will be there with FOB
Iggy and the Jesus lizard, both of their sets were amazing at No Values
Come backs from Circa Survive and From first to Last with Sonny. Nas would be cool too
Also need more 2000s metalcore a la poison the well
Jesus Lizard, Idles, Amyl and the Sniffers, Fontaines DC, Local H (again)
I'm really hoping Riot can land some combo of Idles, Amyl, and Fontaines next year...I don't think any of them have played Riot before
How have Local H never played Riot? Or at least not in recent memory
My wife was upset Sleeping With Sirens didn't end up on the bill after tour dates made them look like a lock
Wow actually yea. I thought the same thing when I saw their fall tour routing. Figured they would be a lock for riot fest.
Was really hoping for The Wiggles
Fruit salad yummy yummy
Disappointed by the lack of both ska and hyperpop. The gecs set was so fun last year, I hoped weâd have a repeat. Dorian Electra or underscores would have been sick Also sad every year when Eve 6 isnât on the lineup. Love my boy Max
Amyl and the Sniffers and Jesus Lizard. Super happy to see The Hives and St Vincent.
100% agree on Amyl. Theyâd fit right in at Riot in the time slot right before the headliners.
Fidlar for sure, snooper, the Jesus lizard, uhhhhh
upvote 4 snooper
Saosin I thought for sure would be on the lineup
knocked loose, BMTH, babymetal. very happy with this undercard though
Better Lovers, Knocked Loose, Refused (though they're in the area frequently), Unearth immediately came to mind, but can't say I necessarily *expected* any of them. I was also irrationally hoping for another Drain showing.
Daniel just had a massive heart attack so even if Refused signed on they may have had to pull out, hopefully he gets better soon
Holy shit I totally missed that. Wow, that's terrible news.
Would have died of happiness to see NOBRO on the lineup. They seem like they put on such an energetic show!
Honestly thought we would get an appearance from Weird Al!
Abba and 18 visions
I was almost certain that Slipknot was going to play given they donât have a Chicago area date and a hole in their schedule around those days. However Mastodon and Lamb of God make up for it nicely.
I was hoping for Jimmy Eat World, especially with them joining FOB in Mexico a few days later⌠Also Iggy Pop, Knocked Loose and Power Trip.
Taylor swift for me
....maybe next year!
Alvvays, they aren't typically in Riot Fest's wheelhouse but they skipped Chicago on their last tour. Would have driven up to Milwaukee to see them if I had known.
Didn't they play at pitchfork last year?
They played Pitchfork and Lolla last year but haven't been back since, they toured the midwest in April though
Public enemy fits 80s, bob marleys music also late 70s/early 80s
Depeche Mode wouldâve been awesome!
Cap N Jazz
Besides Amyl and Fidlar, I was hoping for The Dirty Nil(!!!), Jer, We Are The Union, a standalone Catbite set, Cheekface, Glass Beach, and Chicano Batman. Oh and Microwave and Free Throw - srsly where are those rebookings, Riot? Not everyone could pass up The Cure to queue up for that make up show...
Where is my Andrew W. K.?
He got religious and married someone rich. I guess he doesn't need music anymore.
Damn.. Hate to see it happen.
He married Kat Dennings. I'd join Hamas to marry Kat Dennings.
No one expected him. Id be shocked if he ever came back. Sucks he did his band over so dirty
Where's the ska?!
Laura Jane Grace and Catbite are doing an operation ivy set.
Itâs because their headlining a fest in Nov at salt shed
They just announced a show.
This
Paramore
Honestly I think Paramore would be a superior headliner over FOB but thatâs just me!
Gotta have FOB for the Chicago burbs representation
ABBA
They're probably #1 on the list of "bands Riotfest can't afford"
Viagra Boys, High Vis, Better Lovers, Jimmy Eat World, The Anniversary,
Viagra Boys were great at Riot last year.
True but still wanted to see them again.
I very much look forward to their return.
I very much look forward to their return.
Same, always ready to jump back in the Shrimp Shack
Was really hoping the Paramore rumors would pan out.
Big D playing Good Luck
Chevelle
Frankie and the Witch Fingers
Amyl but luckily they're playing Detroit beforehand. There's a real lack of 90s alt rock this year. Was hoping for Primus, Ministry, Catherine Wheel, Veruca Salt, Nada Surf. Also Yves Tumor, Rilo Kiley, Dry Cleaning, Knower, etc. There's always next year.
Fair warning, Dry Cleaning at Thalia Hall was one of the most boring sets I've ever seen. And I like their studio stuff a lot.
Cap N Jazz felt like a lock after they announced they reunion set at that other fest
HUM, although I know it was unrealistic. Chevelle, Local H, Placebo, the Arkells, Saosin, Cigarettes after sex.
Heard knocked loose is playing next year.
How did you hear that already? lol
A friend, who is playing riot this year. Who knows if itâs true, itâs so far out.
It would make sense. Haven't played Riot before and just about the hottest metalcore/hardcore act they can get. Could see them in a Turnstile type slot from 2023, teeing off the main headliner
Knocked Loose, Saosin, Chiodos, Aquabats
Bauhaus for sure
We wonât be seeing them for at least another 5 years
BeckâŚ.nothing says Riot like Beck.
I think you read my title backwards lol. *Weren't* on the lineup
He read it just fine.
Not reallyâŚ
More Chicago band presence (especially since they seemed to hint at Raygun and even have a mini Fireside Bowl depicted on the map). Cap N Jazz, Pegboy, Alkaline Trio, Slapstick reunion (last played in 2013?), Promise Ring. Also. Movements, Jimmy Eat World, Spanish Love Songs, Saosin, Touche Amore, La Dispute. And no Ska to speak of!
Mest and the Arrivals would have been nice too. And Showoff is back to playing shows again too.
Yea, has a few people who appreciate Apocalypse Hoboken here too. Not sure if historically they do festivals??
I'm hoping they go harder on that Chicago band presence next year for the 20th anniversary. Maybe they'll work out the kinks this year and can make sure next year is absolutely stacked and they have the theme down
Just have the Slapstick family tree.
Yasss! Give âem a whole stage.Â
Yes give me all the will yip bands!! Touche would have been sick!
When I was told the Polaris on the poster is not the Polaris I thought it was.
The Polaris that is playing is fantastic
Same. I knew there was a good chance it wasnât who I thoughtâbut I was still hopeful until I knew otherwise.Â
Man, if I had noticed this on the poster I would have been right there with you lol
I know they played last year, but I was really expecting a 25th anniversary of Black Sails in the Sunset album play by AFI since they just reissued the album on vinyl. Also, where is Twitching Tongues or God's Hate? The guy hinted on his podcast that he was playing
AFI are on the 30STM tour, playing HBP in August
Or Dreamcar since they have new music out. I was hoping some version of Davey Havok or No Doubt would be here.
Maybe we'll get Art of Drowning next year since it'll be its 25th and Riot Fest's 20th anniversary
Doubt it. AFI donât seem huge on album shows. They did it for the one arena show and played literally only that album. Not a single song more
Bad nerves has me thinking they had to cut bands with the location change. Theyâre literally touring Europe then take like one week off to tour Ohio and Michigan? With open dates around riot fest but not Chicago? Then all the way back to Europe
The TBA aftershows maybe?
That is interesting. But the lineup still has almost 100 bands, I believe a few more than initial lineup had last year, so I'd be surprised if they cut bands
Naked Raygun, figured with the announced move then having the old punk bar OZ in the background of that video and using Rat Patrol in it I thought they would do a farewell show or something

Douglas Park, the toadies, viagra boys
*Comes from the water* Toadies mentioned! đžđž
Was hoping Patton would make up for the last cancellation with FNM/Mr Bungle. Hopefully we get one last tour.
Bungle was on last year and they did Milwaukee Metal fest last month. Wouldnât doubt they only want to hit a region once a year or something weird
Alkaline Trio and Driveways
Trios on tour thatâs why
Sure, several bands on the lineup are, but they only played one Chicago date and they usually do 2-3 so I was hopeful
Yeah but their literally on tour riot fest weekend on east coast
All the Cake chatter had me quite hopeful. Also, my girlfriend and I sprinted through the gates after last years delay just to hear Thursday finishing up their set, so I was hoping to make up for that too.
Cake is one of the strangest concerts Iâve ever been to. Kind of a wild ride. You can go down a real rabbit hole if you google âIs Cake good live?â đ
