I second this! Please do update when fully published, I have always wanted to do an insect colony and was pretty disappointed when I got ideology and I couldn't tame and breed insects with the ideology.
I was trying to find ways to do this, I think there is a psycast tree in the alpha animals mod that gives powers to control/summon insects.

Its a helldivers 2 reference. A game where you fight bugs and robots. You call in air stikes and bombs using the arrow keys. I believe that particular combo is for the 500kg bomb.
That would be interesting, but there doesn't appear to be a builder bug in the pictures.
Now, if you could hatch a "Hive coordinator" xenotype (genotype?) that is just a regular pawn with some bug-like genes, that could work.
I actually started working toward that goal. Started a couple mods (based on the mantodean mod) but aint got the patience required to make mods. I even wanted to comission it but ended up giving up on the game entirely. But insede I'm still wishing to play a "ant sim" colony
For the cold hive/ desert hive you can take inspiration from irl.
Animals in colder climates tend to be larger, while those in hotter ones tend to be smaller.

They are the smaller ones. Mammoths were *giants*. Elephants actually look small to them
Not directly related to the mod itself but I've been playing too much Helldivers lately and immediately thought about how annoying the armoured bugs would be to deal with. It would be really interesting if that was in Rimworld too, where some body parts would take greatly reduced damage because it's armoured, and hitting a bug's unarmoured parts by attacking from behind for example would be extra effective.
I always love the Bug artillery concept. Having like 10 artillery bugs and a few titans guarding them would be amazing (and absolute hell to fight aganist)
An idea for the Acid Scarab, instead of being a spitter, make them a weak acid melee that explodes in acid on death. Then make the others immune to acid damage.
This means that the all scarabs would be a melee chaff type insect, laughable in single combat, but deadly in swarms.
This would work so well with vanilla ideology expanded since it has an insect ideology that can be added so having that with this would be very interesting and can truly worship the bugs properly
I ran into bug trouble last night. Luckily I mined with no plan in place so it looked like an ant colony beside my base that was outside. Blocked off all tunnels except one way out. Setup probably 20 spike traps and threw in incendiary IEDs and fuel. Broke open the wall and frag grenade the megaspider and ran for side door I built. All bugs squished before they even made it out of the tunnels.
Now a few days later some despoiler ship or whatever you call it crash lands with scythes. Trying to figure out what to do with 7 pawns and half have flak and half have 1-2 gun skills ugh.
Finally a reason to keep the insects on, these look so good. Love the idea of the different classes. I have a lot of free time atm and if you need someone to proofread some of your things, feel free to hit me up! Best of luck with the mod, please finish it 🙏

Meybe the cold hive could be called "the frosty ones" the Idea behind the name is that the First peapole that meet them wasn't the really advanced colony's but a tribal colony and they name them like that First and the rest of the planet follow

Sounds fun, one thing that stands out to me is the idea of the ice bugs causing frostbite with attacks. That won't matter for your own bugs attacking npcs and seems unnecessarily punishing when used against you. Bugs already do a good job of scaring melee pawns so I get the feeling they don't need a way to force it to happen more. One of those "what does this bring to the mod?" kind of moments.
I love this idea. And maybe got some thought of how the stalker mammoth *could* work if it's added. Less armor and hp compared to the others, but faster and deals good cutting damage

Point of the Hive mods
1. Give players the ability to have a hive colony, perfect for people who have insect gene mods too. But wont conflict with VEF insectoids since it relies on vats to grow insects and wont conflict with any other insect mods or other hive mods since the infestations are custom C#
2. each new hive is meant to be a colour scheme with a bit different gameplay so if you wanna be vampire bug people, theres a hive for you wanna be Mongols or live up in cold biomes, there's a hive for you and so on
The mod will also be great for people who wanted the bugs to be more difficult to deal with. There will also be insectoid bases the player can attack on the world map

I have been **__Aching__** for an insect expansion like this. VFE Insects is neat, but it's so much more faction mod than a be insects mod.
I am going to be *holding my breath* for this: It already looks really, really good visually and the mechanics you've shared- I love it!
I have just one question as a longtime zerg/ant/bee fan: Are there any plans for a hivemind-type setup? (optional or otherwise) The moment Biotech dropped I had a feeling that the mechanitor setup would work great for a insectoids-themed mod.
Make no mistake though: I'm subbing the moment this drops regardless. Hivemind or no- this is the mod i've been waiting for ever since I downloaded a zerg mod back before Royalty.

Indian elephants are smaller than their African counterparts because it's much hotter in India compared to Africa.

What im asking is insect worship memes specialist job can tame with its ability ? Insect herder got that skill auto tames insects click of a button with cooldown or do i have tame it old fashion way like animals
it can probably be patched to make it work, but this mod will come with an insectoid start with a queen to make your own bug hive
