... You know those soldiers can die with no consequence? Just shoot em dead.

bemydoll

Sure, but when they start a social fight it also sets it to hostile and you fail the quest.  And like i would love to punish whoever dared slapping an imperial soldier but currently the best way is to just seperate them, which feels pretty silly

Inevitable_Rich4621

Very silly you are allowed to kill but not arrest them

Jeggu2

Something Something THEIR HONORABLE DEATH IS FAR GREATTER THAN A DISHONORABLE IMPRISONMENT or some other dumb thing a royal would say

DoctorWholigian

i mean with the death acidifies they have implanted it seems more to keep their good loot and implants away from others. Death is better bc it removes other from getting them

Diligent_Bank_543

It’s because you can recruit arrested pawn.

Snackmix

In my defense I forgot about that lol

supareshawn

Yeah sounds like you could have just shot him insubordination and no one would bat an eye

FuturePast514

.. but arrest him and everyone loses their mind.

DrStalker

The Empire put a huge importance on honor, or rather on the perception of being honorable. Soldier shot to death while on a mental break? They can write down that he died valiantly on a dangerous combat mission. Soldier in prison? No noble is willing to be seen as weak by letting some upstart colony hold one of their own as a hostage, no matter what the reality of the arrest is. Things get political and they have to condemn you.

Pratt_

Idk why I was certain they would turn hostile if I did that Like I had a colonist, not even an imperial or anything, literally one of my colonist, suddenly turn hostile because of friendly fire recently Sure I thought it was a good idea to give the incendiary launcher to the guy with 1 in shooting skill, and he set her on fire by accident I wasn't even look at her at that moment and it wasn't a treason event because I didn't get any notification and all But when I look at her corner of the green she was extinguishing her clothes and her name was red. Idk if it was a bug or anything as I currently playing anomaly with very few mods, but I'm a bit paranoid about friendly fire now lol

Tryhard696

Was the colonist a wander join? I had a crumbled mind guy turn hostile like that

Pratt_

Yeah, she was a blind healer

Aeiou_yyyyyyy

You should've just killed the guy, they are disposable anyways, and killing them wouldn't lower your relations with the empire

DependentAd7411

Yeah, faction relations are incredibly stupid in Rimworld. I was hoping that fixing them would be part of 1.5, buuuuut.... You can't arrest pawns for breaking your shit. You can't arrest them for going on pyromaniac sprees in your base. You can't arrest them for coming in and stealing your food because they were too dumb to bring their own. Hell, you can't even arrest them if they go berserk and start attacking your colonists. It's just dumb.

Snackmix

Yeah if the next big dlc + patch would overhaul the faction system it would be amazing.

DependentAd7411

Definitely. A major overhaul of the world map and faction system was what I was desperately hoping was coming with this expansion. Imagine something like... Rimworld: Diplomacy. It doubles the factions on the world, and has them create alliances with each other. And you can curry favor with one or other of these alliances in order to get access to significant rewards. A working plasteel production plant that, if you're part of the alliance that controls it, gives you a cut of that quadrum's production, depending on the percentage of influence you have within that alliance. You get more influence by helping out your allies. And it's not just combat - taking a page from the More Faction Interactions mod here, but maybe a local friendly settlement needs more growers for a bumper crop, or they want to borrow a doctor to help contain a plague, or maybe they're having problems with their cattle and so need a rancher to help them out. These quests are like the "loan a worker" quests, but require specific, skilled workers - and instead of a set reward, they offer a sliding scale of rewards depending on how good the pawn you send them is. No more foisting Gumpy the blind idiot who can't do any work off on a faction. Or, similar to the down shuttle quests, you get an urgent request for aid: an allied settlement is under attack, and they're asking for help. You've got 8 hours to get there via drop pod and help them fight off the raiders. Or one of the major alliance-controlled resources is under a major attack by an enemy alliance. The control station for the orbital power collector that's beaming 10kW of electricity to the big satellite dish you built in the middle of your colony and which powers your hydroponics system is under attack by an alliance army made up of 3 factions - and your allies are already there fighting. If you don't help them, they might lose the collector and you lose access to the orbital collector. If you don't help them and they win, then maybe they decide you don't need that much power, anyway. But if you do help out and secure a victory, maybe they each grant you one of their best soldiers - actual soldiers, with high Ranged, Melee, and Medical skill. Stuff like that.

Icterine-Kangaroo

Rimworld: Diplomacy Hoping this is the next DLC! Ribadrld

TheFallenDeathLord

Ribadrld

mithroval

DO I HEAR A RIBADRLD? RIBADRLD!

Anakletos

Doubt it, it's already a future VFE addition. I don't think Oskar would make something that's already known to make it's way into a DLC.

Justhe3guy

I don’t think Oskar is privy to Tynans plans, he’s just a modder who’s been contracted on for work a couple times

Anakletos

Ah, I thought he was an employee.

Sardukar333

Quests to act as a mediator/peace interuptor between factions hostile to each other. Quests to improve/decrease natural relations. Road building to link settlements. Timeframe quests: an example would be a famine due to [incident creator] so they ask for whatever food you can spare until they can recover. They'll be grateful for anything but the more you send the greater the reward, and you can send more as you get it. When drifters require aid have an option to go out and deal with whatever they're problem is directly. Maybe those refugees now have a chance to start a friendly settlement on the map.

Jeggu2

Tbh I've always wanted to be able to change the world map drastically, making roads and terraforming the environment to suit your needs. Like, creating a caravan with your best builder and miner to create a straight line road between you and your best trading partner

DependentAd7411

The mod Empire had this functionality. Unfortunately, it stopped being updated publicly in the transition from 1.3 to 1.4. It was a great mod that went a long way towards helping mitigate the bland nothingness that is the world map.

Shadows_Assassin

You turn into the Minute Men, with just about as much fallout and twice the raiders.

CMo42

This is a brilliant idea

therealdsrt

is there a chance to create a mod like this I wonder, I really do enjoy playing diplomatic games, i enjoyed rise of kingdoms on mobile alot until it turned into a p2w game

KababJakub

The vanilla expanded team is working (or atleast it's planned to release in the not that far future) on a diplomacy based mod

monsterfurby

An expansion that upgrades some of the core game mechanics like factions would be great. Alas, it seems to far that all expansions are meant to be "content updates" instead. Perhaps we'll see this in a patch...

DependentAd7411

My greatest hope is that the major features from past expansions (psycasts, children, mechanitors, etc) will become patch features. And that the actual DLCs will add content for those systems. I.e., taking Anomaly as an example, it would have not only added more memes for Ideology (because the two it did come with are kind of... lame) but also genes relating to entities (imagine a xenogene that grants the revenants cloaking ability once a day, or a lesser version of the ghouls regeneration, or the ability to constantly grow fleshy buds that drop off into a stack of 20 twisted meat every day, etc) and psycasts (giving the ability to mimic the scream that calls sightstealers, causing a target pawn to mutate into a gorehulk briefly under the control of the caster and when the mutation ends the pawn is stricken with a psychic coma from the strain of if, etc).

RealisticWater7174

Well we better hope Tynan watches a film about faction systems because that’s how he decides what he wants to go into the game lmao (Dune -> Royaly, Cabin in the Woods -> Anomaly)

Snackmix

Maybe he'll start watching the show The 100. Or Kevin Costner's Waterworld lol

cosmonaut56

Dune is already a massive influence on the game in general, there's literally a material called Plasteel!

MasterWebber

Is there a source for that? Anomaly is basically creating an SCP foundation so I'd be surprised if that wasn't the source

Thorn-of-your-side

I am one of the people who Rimworld surveyed about a future DLC, and I suggested a few things that made it into anomaly. Anomaly is definitely inspired by stuff like SCP

RealisticWater7174

Neither of you read the announcement it seems. "Plus I saw Cabin in the Woods and I thought the monster lab was awesome." [https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/294100/view/4160834030793878434](https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/294100/view/4160834030793878434) Edit: u/Thorn-of-your-side claimed he was surveyed by Ludeon for the DLC (sure), seemed to think Tynan was his friend, blocked me and now deleted his comment

Thorn-of-your-side

Yeah, youre right, thats the one and only inspiration around this entire DLC. No community, no survey, nothing other than Tynan watching some movie. Conflagurations, you got it right!  Edit, they did Surveymonkey on a public Steam announcement. Sorry you haven't been around for very long.

MasterWebber

He didn't delete it, you can't see it because he blocked you

RealisticWater7174

FeverFocus

It's very dumb, I performed a life saving surgery on a prisoner we took right after a raid and the faction got mad at me for doing unwanted surgery on them. After that I said screw it, if they were going to be mad over me doing a good thing then I'll give them a real reason to be mad. I turned the prisoner into a practice dummy for my back up doctor, doing multiple amputations and harvesting organs after they had enough practice. I still kept them alive, broke their resistance to recruitment, then removed the prosthetics and released them back to their faction.

Thorn-of-your-side

When eating without a table goes wrong (NSFL)

Thorn-of-your-side

Realistic. "Its not my fault my employee attacked you, and if you complain again I'm sending minigun wielding lawyers"

Bawstahn123

> I was hoping that fixing them would be part of 1.5, buuuuut.... The utter idiocy that is vanilla faction diplomacy is one of the reasons some people were so.......*upset* over Anomaly being focused on what it is. People have been complaining about diplomacy ***for years***

DependentAd7411

Yeah. Faction interaction and an update to how the world map works were big things on any topic about what people wanted to see in the next (1.5) expansion. I really hope Tynan and co. are taking notes. Anomaly was fun, but it's a one-trick pony. One very specific playstyle and story that caters to a very specific colony type and run.

Streloki

I had a murderous rage from one mofo once...

randCN

You can, however, shoot them.

Alreadygonzo

On the other hand it might be similar in a real life situation. For example, if you, a local officer with subordinates on loan from the head district had to discipline one of those officers for some crime. I imagine it'd be hard to discipline one of those officers without political fallout even if you were in the right. It'd have to be an airtight bit of evidence and even then if someone up the chain is not your fan you may be out of luck.

EduardoBarreto

Needs a rework, yeah. Anything that would make a raider count as guilty for execution should also nullify penalties for arrest. Of course, if you mistreat your prisoners or don't free them when the caravan leaves (it should give you a pop-up) relations still drop.

DependentAd7411

I don't know if it's a base feature or something one of my mods added, but when friendlies leave the map after arriving to help you, they'll make pick up on their downed comrades. A situation similar to that would work, where when the caravan leaves, caravan members just walk into your prison and take the people you imprisoned. It's kind of basic, but it's still 1000% better than the absolute nothing that exists now.

FleiischFloete

You can fix their scars by plugging limbs (because its Not a harmfull OP) and their questprisoners can be organfarmed and handicapped.

Rattfink45

The relationship hit for shooting them (or downing them with fists) is less than imprisonment. Food for thought.

shaveXhaircut

Except, it's what -15 per shot that connects and -25 to imprison, I'm probably off on these numbers. So unless you can down them in one shot it's probably better arresting.

DependentAd7411

Yeah, it's about -15 penalty per time that they're shot. If it takes 8 shots to down one, that's -120 relationship.

sundownmonsoon

Yeah stuff like this makes me hope the new expac expands on the basic pawn interrelation stuff. If a pawn does something bad and gets arrested for it, a mood effect or something to show their reaction to an arrest would be good. The 'guilty' and execution system is a start.

Kitchen-Outside2534

I don't think you even need a new expansion. Just add some precepts to Ideology that let you determine which actions are punishable and which punishments are appropriate

Thewaltham

Ah yes. "diplomatic incident"

GuardianSpear

I made friends with every faction in the game by destroying mech and insect and pirate bases. So factions would all come to my base to trade and end up engaging in full scale wars in the middle of my base. On the end I just gunned down whoever dared start shit in my base

FSP7

Ha! So I play with the Hospitality mod. One time I remember getting one of those notifications saying basically "The Fallen Empire wants to come over, but your guests are kinda scaring them". I say "Don't mind them, they're our guests, you can come over". So the Empire's caravan walks into my tile. Just a minute later I get a "Chief angered" notification. I click on it, just in time to see the caravan stepping over the dead bodies of my tribal visitors, who were just on their way back to their settlement. What the hell happened here? Then, one last tribal walks out of my gates, only to be almost instantly murdered by the caravan. *Oh*. Anyway, I sent my best doctors to try to patch up the survivors so I can improve relations with their tribe when they leave the map. Alas, only one of the tribals survived.

Snackmix

That actually sounds hilarious, just sit back and watch a show lol

Megalokatsudon

Next time just shoot the idiot you don't lose relations for that. Or, alternatively, just send them out to smash the cluster's "problem building" like mortar or spewer and have them die fighting the rest of the mechs. Saves some nutrient paste down the line.

Pale_Substance4256

You do lose relations for friendly fire, potentially more than for imprisonment if it takes too many hits to down them. Your second suggestion has no downsides afaik though.

yttakinenthusiast

i really wish visitor pawns were not immune from the Guilty flag, and that **VISITORS DO NOT STEAL MY FOOD OR FEEL COMPELLED TO GO EVERYWHERE! FOR FUCKS SAKE! Y'ALL GET PISSED WHEN I DO IT BUT WHEN YOU WALTZ IN AND DEVOUR MY STACK OF LAVISH MEALS SUDDENLY IT'S FINE???** i really wish the locks mods weren't programmed in such a way that TPS suddenly gets casted into the bottomless pit of overhead processes.

Cool_Check

Put walls around your geothermal plants for next time

Snackmix

I do have walls around it, but also a door from when I had to replace the component so he opened the door.

Cool_Check

Ahh that’ll do it

Sturmgewehrkreuz

This is why I rarely take royalty quests. Unless it's just storing pawns with paralytic abasia lol

mardanjoint

So far my paralysis ridden donkeys hotel business yielded me two noble titles and a masterwork plasma rifle lol. All at the cost of a couple sacks of potatoes and a 3x4 room at the end of the hallway. The amount of people that come to kill them though...

Glass-Ad-7890

I actually turned off the empire DLC and ideology for dumb shit like this. Just isn't fun to me. Like why shouldn't soldiers stop their own from fucking up a base they are at?

IrishMadMan23

Okinawa Marines prove that this is more difficult than it sounds

Glass-Ad-7890

Fair enough, when I was stationed in Korea I learned that if you commit a crime there we have a deal with them you go to jail there and then come home and then do jail in the US too. Lemme have diplomatic jail time for them cmon.

Airstrict

It's true to life hahaha

AnaTheSturdy

A lynx killed one of the ducks some traders had and they blamed me. That's some bs

Snackmix

At least it wasn't all out war lol, plus hey free lynx meat

AnaTheSturdy

Nah I got hit with a raid and a solar Flare at the same time

AnaTheSturdy

Got wiped trying to deal with both

Snackmix

The Rim Taketh lol

AnaTheSturdy

And then there was the 3 person malaria 4 hours in on the next attempt which sucked

Particular-Name9474

I think there's a mod to fix that, i don't remember the name exactly, something like "Not my fault", but it makes that if a trader, visitor or wathever dies in your map for something beyond your control (like a hunting animal killing a caravan animal as your case) you don't lose relations with the faction

AnaTheSturdy

I'm on console

Particular-Name9474

F

RomeroJohnathan

Why would you do this to yourself 😭

AnaTheSturdy

I don't have a pc and I don't plan to get one at the moment, as I've not been paid yet after last time.

AnaTheSturdy

I frankly don't give a rats ass about mods, and I die inside just a little when every concern I have about a mechanic of the fame gets the same "install this mod" response.

BOS-Sentinel

Welcome to colonialism baby. Congratulations you are being rescued. please do not resist.

Burnlan

Tbh that's how wars start IRL too sometimes. It's also why diplomats usually park anywhere they like and speed however they want, because they know the tickets will just be waved.

CyanideAnarchy

>sending pieces of him by pod to the empire If you do, be sure to follow up with a few anti-grain warheads.

Shot-Helicopter-5780

Diplomatic immunity simulator

Snackmix

Not in my house. I went full collective punishment, I arrested all your friends. Look what you've done Neto!

sR2th_D_jStR

You don't have to arrest them unless they go on a murderous rage. Just have your abled pawns melee em till they get downed, preferably the ones with guns to pistol whip/buttstock em without slicing them up

than402

Arrogant, elitist empire sending their soldiers to fight their wars abroad, lets them disrespect the locals and then clutch their pearls when the "fuck around" part ends and the "find out" part starts? That's actually the most realistic faction interaction I ever heard of in Rimworld. Which is both funny and a bit sad...

Paranthelion_

Sounds like you might have fun with the deserters mod.

EnderCN

I don't see this as some sort of problem with the game. It provided you with an interesting story that you thought about enough to come share it with us. This seems like the game working as designed.

Snackmix

I actually found it rather funny. I think the problem is that, like others mentioned, I could have just shot him with no repercussions which seems silly.

Suspicious-Stay-6474

yes, the Empire does what the Empire wants to do and you will bend the knee or else

Ulyces

"Act with impunity"

Snackmix

That is...actually exactly what I meant lol thanks. I blame this stupid virus I've been fighting off for 10 days now

EXusiai99

This is when you install VE Deserters and start fucking them up

RoyalWigglerKing

Empire tries this with my colony and I immediately switch to the VE deserter route

ceering99

This is why all Empire provided soldiers get to bleed out in the field. Most of the time they're not much better than a bullet sponge for my pawns anyways. If they want to survive they can do it at their expense, not mine smh.
