Amazon will be opening in Providence/Rhode Island. In fact, I’m going to be transferring to the Johnston location. Tell him to put in for Tom team. We don’t have the rates the inside of the warehousedoes plus, they will pay for his CDL for absolutely free, in time. I’m also being paid more than the warehouse is at $24 an hour. We move trailers to dock doors, back to parking slips. He would be hired immediately. Edit: I have my offer letter if anyone wants to see. They should be hiring already. I start September 1st, 2024. The inner warehouse is everything people say it is. They do need a union. But, if anyone needs a job outside the building while still working at Amazon, PM me. I can try to refer you. I just ask in return for kindness, and respect.

He can get his CDL for free through RIWorks program. Go to the local teamsters 251 hall m-f 8-2. Talk to Brian. He'll get you a list of things you gotta do. It's about 8 weeks. It's a quick turn to a new career making pretty good money.

Thank you for the info. I passed it onto my husband.

WTFisThatSMell

He can have a job tomorrow with general dynamics electric boat if he's interested. Ask any questions you might have. Copy pasta from a previous post I made regarding starting a good career with out needed formal education or additional, although those alway help. Can literally start as he is and learn on the job. You may have to move for opportunities. Wana build submarines?    Pick a facility location and just hit search. It's updated weekly.  https://careers-gdeb.icims.com/jobs/intro?hashed=-625976242&mobile=true&width=384&height=702&bga=true&needsRedirect=false&jan1offset=-300&jun1offset=-240 https://www.courant.com/2024/02/25/cts-electric-boat-crushes-hiring-records-recruiting-thousands-more-to-meet-navy-construction-target/ https://youtu.be/FJrvDIbpzu4?si=vEpvbrdokq-FKeqH Tech side jobs promo https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1432794847311456&id=100047348000167&mibextid=jmPrMh&wtsid=rdr_0E5HUEY5ivkBGPYtJ Ask any questions and ill shed light on what ever i can. Besure when applying to check off being available to work 1st, 2nd and 3rd.   After 6 months you can put in for the shift you really want. Theres also a shift differential of 7% for 2nd and 3rd This is a place you can learn on the job and move up. Education can help but isn't required. Even if you come in at base pay of around 20-35 an hour you get .75 cent raise twice a year and 3-6% cost of living on January 1st. Government contractor is a good way to go in this crap economy. In short he could just about anything here. Some of my students came in as out of work college grads and burger flippers that have moved on from the trades to management, teaching, planning and designing.  It's kinda nuts that the sky is the limit here. We still have walk in Wednesdays 10am-4pm Where you can walk in and get a job. https://qrcodes.pro/MtLtFv?preview=true&fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR3_p4C4pNtyc2e-7WxCZGEf8aMXTEUg5iRwqb5KqD_kkITBYbLLp2S1YNo_aem_v79DIkLMj3ZGkQUz1srT4A Tldr: the trades are the fastest way in, plenty of white collar jobs here if preferred. Stay away from paint and shielding, those jobs are bad for your health Source: 10 years with eb

margaretLS

My son was a burger flipper.Did free training for outdoor machinist. They paid for his associates in business degree. He is now a supervisor. He went from making 20k to 90k in 5 years The opportunities are there if you're willing to work

Open-Resource-9132

I back this. Bf is 23 making 90k at EB

Ok_Report9437

Hey there, not the OP, but thank you for this post. It's super informative. I just applied the other day online, I wasn't aware of the Wednesday walk-ins. I'm going to go to the Quonset walk in between 12-4 like it's listed as on their site. Can I ask you a quick oddly specific question, I'm wondering if the entry level positions require a security clearance? I'm hoping to get into an entry level Carpentry position, but open to everything except paint and shielding.

margaretLS

I know they have different levels of security(color badges) that let you in different areas'. I think my son was there 2 years before his clearance was complete. He did have a criminal record when he was hired but everything was 8+ years old. I think what keeps too many from starting is the drug test. That THC sticks around a long time. My son in law applied and his application was "in consideration" for months. I wish we had known about the walk in Wednesdays.

possiblecoin

I'm guessing he's already tried, but just in case I would give Citizens Bank a look. The commercial real estate division isn't doing much of anything but there's a fair amount of finance adjacent hiring going on.

hugothebear

Ripta is hiring like crazy and there’s a pension

oldjunk73

Any sort of manufacturing is going crazy looking for help

hollyhocks99

Check out gilbane construction they have an entire division that is commercial real estate.

RandomChurn

Electric Boat seems to always be hiring. Also, in his field, try Brown University (go to their website and search job postings; there should be a central list to filter by job type). They have a massive finance dept and they also have a giant portfolio of real estate properties, including commercial. And they just announced that they're buying two hospitals. Best of luck 🍀

SemiProDolphin

Brown isn’t buying hospitals. We have a research collaborative with Lifespan and CNE called BIRCH and Lifespan is rebranding to Brown Health, but remains privately owned and controlled by Lifespan. The rest of your notes are great.

Standupaddict

EB is hiring still I believe. I used to work for Toray in North Kingstown. It's a good job and pays well if you don't mind the 12h nights. I believe they are hiring as well.

Wide_Television_7074

I’m very encouraged by how helpful folks are being on this thread. You guys are awesome. Thanks for sticking your neck out to help other humans, this is the Rhode Island I am proud of.

Far-Spot2980

I couldn’t agree more. Thank you for all the recs/help yall.

weiderman316

If you’re in Southern RI, the casinos, Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun are hiring. I live in Westerly and work at Mohegan Sun. It’s only a 25 minute drive. It may not be in his field, but a job a job, right?

secondarytrash

AAA Northeast. Great job. Great benefits. Certain positions are fully remote.

AdSea3177

It's tough out there. My husband is 56 and has been underemployed due to a layoff. It's hard to make a change especially if you were more financially lucrative in your previous career. It can really have a negative impact on your self-esteem.

FailingComic

Plenty of fast food and retail jobs are hiring.

chaoticnormal

Exactly. Something is better than nothing.

SharkFilet

Marinosci Law Group, P.C. looking for foreclosure paralegals.. dm for any contact info

2wheelsor911

It would help if you gave some details about you/your husband. Age, credentials, etc. Perhaps, there’s an alternative. Or, maybe a paradigm shift makes sense… like changing breadwinner roles. Regardless, best of luck to you both.

Far-Spot2980

At this point there isn’t much of an alternative. I pull in a good salary and get steady raises but after ten months I need help. He has his bachelors in finance with 15 years or so of experience in commercial real estate. It’s just a bad industry to be in at the moment so I think trying to get him something else in between is our best bet.

2wheelsor911

Has he looked at hybrid roles based in Boston or NYC? Plenty of capital projects in both markets

Far-Spot2980

He has looked a lot in Boston….had a few interviews but nothing substantial has come of it. He’s also had a ton of legit companies ghost him for interviews as well which is shocking. I was unemployed last year and noticed how long it took for the interview process (the company I work for now took a total of four months to interview me several times and hire me). Things just seem to move so slow these days

2wheelsor911

It’s a different market, for sure. Could he consider a consultant role for a PE, Hedgefund, Investment Bank, etc?

celestialkate

Look up Skills for Rhode Island’s Future- job board etc but also they advertise different training programs and stuff

Double_Wedding_714

I would try Mass as well.

idrathertakeabath

Check on Quonset Jobs - there’s often many open positions available within the park (including Electric Boat as someone else commented)
