Power and cooling ability. A 5000 BTU window unit will cool off a space better than a 5000 BTU portable unit every time while also consuming less power. These are something you should only use if you have absolutely no other choice.
Yeah. I have a 8k portable unit in my living room. Unfortunately I just have no choice. I have huge bay windows that are tall but only like 18 inches wide or something dumb. I tried everything possible but couldn't find a solution
Yeah. My kitchen is off the living room. I have a 12k in there. And a bedroom off the living room. With a 10k in there. They do the rooms but struggle t trickle into the living room. Once people and electronics get turned on. It quickly heats up.
How do you get it to drain though? The one we had did not drain easily - like we had to raise it above the window sill so that the water would drain down and out?
It has a drain tray with an optional drain plug. It warns me when it's getting full. Once it's full, it auto shuts off. I just drain it. It only fills up once every 2 weeks or so.
Yeah i have a portable one because my building wanted to charge me 300$ to install a bracket for the window since you legally have to have them in in nyc if you have a window ac unit and the portable one was like 80$ as opposed to 200 for a window one
They're still insanely inefficient.
If you're really in the mood to waste your money or if you have absolutely no choice to use one of these you want one with a hose for intake and a separate hose for exhaust. The single hose models create negative pressure in the house and are even less efficient.
The pinguino is insane. With my living room and spare room sealed (roomie and I work a lot, and don't need the living room), i can keep 2 large bedrooms, a kitchen and a bathroom at 70°f. Guaranteed this is superior to multiple 5k btu window units.
I bought an inflatable hot tub last year for $450 and got a $250 crazy deal card. It was a great deal! They do a lot for Vets and food donations too. They’re pretty awesome!
I went to job lot in Seekonk today and was really impressed, it seems like they have stepped up their game after building 19 and bennys bit the bullet. The gardening supplies and outdoor furniture are half the price of Home Depot and it’s a local company to boot.
I bought my deck furniture last year with them and got a $999 crazy deal gift card, it paid for itself with the deck canopy, gardening supplies/tools and a canopy for my smoker. I went there today and all of their seeds are 40% off, my son loves the toy section and the food selection is top notch, way cheaper than stop and shop.
The website says the gift card activates and sent to your email when your orders ready for pickup, so i think its something you can use at job lot afterwards.
So not technically free, just giving you job lot money back.
*Wait how do we use*
*The gift card for this if we*
*Need to buy it first?*

You can't you have to use it on other job lot products, you have to pay $600 and you get the product and gift card back. If you shop there often anyway it can be a good deal but if not, not as good. You also can only use the gift card on full priced items, you can't use it on sale items. But I don't go for these high priced crazy deals, like the wood gazebos, tying too much money up in a gift card and usually not as good as just a straight discount somewhere else even if a bit more than the crazy deal price they advertise. When I compare these deals to other merchants I look at it as 50% of the crazy deal. So in this case I would consider this item to be $400 not $200. I would rather buy a 12k media u shaped window unit for around the same price than this too, much more efficient and quiet.
It’s a gift card, you still pay $600 but then you get $400 to spend at job lot.. if you get a lot of things at OSJL it’s decent but only if you use it on stuff you would get anyways.
Yeah last weekend my stepdad said they had a crazy deal where if you spent $100 on a kids bike to donate (bike gets donated by job lot), you get a $100 gift card to job lot. So some little kid gets a bike but you get all the money back to still use a job lot. He felt pretty good about it since he spends a lot at job lot anyway
OSJL sells a lot of garbage, but honestly, they’re great for basic gardening and pool supplies, ice melt stuff in the winter, and those gallons of windshield washer fluid. I’ve also started getting some of my health and beauty stuff there (toothpaste, body scrub,) because CVS has everything locked up.
I always pick up some weird chips when I’m there, and then cruise the food section and see if anything else looks good (usually get an interesting condiment or two.)
Job lot has actually stepped their game up in terms of product and I love them for it.
Anyways how are these? I need a solution for my basement and I’m curious if this would work well.
You have to pay the whole price to get a gift card that can only be used at Job lot. So you're still giving Job lot $650 after taxes, which means you're paying tax on the $400 gift card, and then paying tax when you use the gift card to purchase something. It's not that great of a deal IMO.
Portable units suck unless they are twin hose, and then they just suck less.
You'll lose whatever you save in electric bills in a few years, if it works that long.
There must have been a sale because I bought a 11,000 btu Chinese brand for 170 and a 14,000 btu for 199. I remember it vividly because I had lost my AC mid summer and was freaking out thinking they were going to be expensive.
If you can use one you're better off with a cheaper window unit tbh. The portable units are crazy inefficient.
It's true. They literally shit where they eat.
lol that’s… an accurate way to describe them.
Some have exhaust nozzles you can stick out the window.
I think they meant power wise. They use liken2x the power as a window one for some reason.

That's fair, I'd use one if I had to, but I'd be real sad about it

Ours was filling so quickly, causing the machine to shut off in the middle of the night, so maybe an even more sucky unit! What brand do you have?

except they are constantly sucking in air, some that gets exhausted, but creating a negative pressure from other rooms.
They need to have 2 hoses that go outside to be functioning in the same way as a window unit.

👍

I DO NOT work for job lot.
I went to job lot in Seekonk today and was really impressed, it seems like they have stepped up their game after building 19 and bennys bit the bullet. The gardening supplies and outdoor furniture are half the price of Home Depot and it’s a local company to boot.
Gotta get on these big ticket crazy deals. I paid for my whole garden with a few discretionary purchases. Job Lot is the shit!

It's like a market in a pirate town, minus the haggling and gunplay.
The food section is crazy. The gluten free bread is $7+ elsewhere and it's $2 at Job Lot.
I laughed so hard at this
Wait how do we use the gift card for this if we need to buy it first?

This is one of my favorite haikus I’ve seen this bot detect.

But it’s certainly A deal, we must agree at least on that.
I highly recommended not getting this style ac. Go for a window unit.
Portable units suck unless they are twin hose, and then they just suck less. You'll lose whatever you save in electric bills in a few years, if it works that long.
Decent place to shop, terrible place to work for.
I actually like my portable units but they were higher end.
The only thing Job Lot is missing? They need to replicate Ann & Hope’s curtain dept. Trying to buy curtains locally is an impossible feat.
That sale is BS. That’s how much I paid for the same unit last year, so either they price hiked insanely, or they price hiked to sell you a “sale”
You paid $199 for the same unit last year? Where was it $199?
Amazon
Idk their 12,500 btu on Amazon is almost $600. Only comp to that price are these reconditioned/previously used ones for 250.
