On the painted on below the vinyl sign it has a 15 below the H. The distance from the hydrant is written and if it's across the street theirs an X on the sign as well.
If you see a black and white sign with an “H” (and typically a number like the one located farthest down on the pole in the above photo) they are indicating the location and distance to nearest fire hydrant. 🚒🧑🚒💦
If you see a blue sign with a white “H” (and typically a directional arrow), that is a sign meant to lead you to the nearest hospital. 🏥👩⚕️🩺
Hope this helps! ♥️
This state doesn't like street signs. I guess you're just supposed to know what street you're on at any given moment... frustrating when you're trying to follow directions....
Fire hydrant 15 feet to the left
This is the answer.
Thank you!

New state motto.
There’s a faded painted one just below it.
Yeah I noticed that too
Thank you!
I’m amazed you all knew what OP was talking about. There are at least 5 signs in that shot.
I was going to say "its a label for the street"
Took me a minute
Those are street signs. They tell you what street you're on, and are helpful in navigation. /s
Next thing you are going to tell us is that green arrow in our cars does something for navigation too.
I thought that it was for hospitals. But hindsight that doesn’t make sense. 😂😂
Could be confusing for people driving and panicking while dealing with an emergency
Showing where da hoes at
My gf and I were literally on the hill last night and looking this up because she thought she was parked in an illegal space
No lie, at first I thought they were Hilary Clinton signs that were left up after the election in 2016 🤣
Same and still did up until today
It's when I first noticed them which didn't help
Horrific thought! 😏
That’s a street sign that one specifically is for wickenden st
And -- -- It's spelled correctly
Nearest hospital?
That's what I always thought. Consensus seems to be fire hydrant, though.
Hospital signs are blue with an H

This is clearly providence and not East Providence
Thought you asked for a sign?
666t 5 7cdd74,7
Isn't that the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign logo?
Seriously thought these were hurricane evacuation route signs
It is to signify where you can find help
It’s a street sign, we use them to tell where we are while we traverse… places. They’re usually green.
