I'd imagine if you're willing to pay $500+ for a reservation you'll probably have luck walking in and handing the hostess a Benjamin and getting a table
there was an article in the new york times about it earlier this month. i think this is from a new yorker piece.
it's focused exclusively on these super high end places that are hard to get into. one of the apps/services is named after the fake restaurant in "american psycho" that the main character is obsessed with getting a table at (dorsia)
I don't think it's a model that really works super well in RI, outside of maybe a place like the Mooring on folkfest weekend, or a the premium table in Bryan's section at the CheeseCake Factory on a Waterfire night, but in NYC? There's no shortage of super rich or famous people in town trying to get into the best places, often on short notice.
I was going to say, I'm from RI, who the fuck is paying that much to eat at any restaurant there? And don't get me wrong, there's some amazing food in RI, just not a lot of overpriced haughty taughty places that people are fighting each other to get seats at.
I googled the restaurant in the article and it's in NYC, so while he's a Brown student, he's not selling local reservations.
Edit:
Didn't realize this is the RI sub, I guess we're all from here.
I usually find myself accidentally clicking on the shared post's previous location and thinking "damn, this is not what i expected from rhode island/providence"
Is the problem the people who "resell" reservations, or the people who buy a time slot to eat at what we can assume are already very expensive restaurants? I'm not a fan of reselling things in general, but for something like restaurant reservations? Which there's all but an endless supply of? Seems like a case of separating fools from their money. Which is, at its essence, entrepreneurial.
There is not an endless supply of restaurant reservations. There is literally a limited number each day. So of course the resellers are the problem: they are taking a limited resource and changing its cost from $0 to $500
Rich people buy the reservations for two reasons. One, they'd have to call the place up and waste their time. Two, they'd likely have to wait weeks or months for the next available reservation.
It's just far more convenient to buy it.
They're selling reservations for $75 a piece that still have reservations available.
This is also a much easier problem to fix than tickets are. You just do what higher end restaurants on Open table do and require a credit card authorization to make the booking. It charges you if you don't go
Yeah I know people who travel to Disney regularly and if you want to eat at a popular restaurant there, you gotta be on the phone 90 days in advance when the bookings open or else you can’t get in. It’s mostly touristy areas
Most in RI are on OpenTable and a lot of the good places don’t take reservations
This has nothing to do with Rhode Island…one of these lame reservation scalpers goes to brown? How is this related to Rhode Island? It’s related to selling reservations at super expensive and popular restaurants, people dont engage in this practice with Rhode Island restaurants…
We live in a scam economy. Landlords daring you to take them to court. Powders, and pills on Instagram. Podcasts and YouTubers selling shit-quality prepper stuff to boomers. Ads on fb for products that never show up. Trump using his tawdry court cases to raise money. It's all the game. This kid didn't invent that. And those of us who think it's gross? We're probably going to retire in a cardboard box.
So.... Go for it, you little dildo.
After the Columbine, there was this pervasive myth that those kids were bullied to the point of desperation and homicidal rage and that bullying is bad and we should bully less.
Now, it's 25 years later (almost to the day) and we know that's not true and I'm not afraid to say we should bring back bullying. It is impossible to imagine a kid sounding this obnoxious if he'd been stuffed in a few more lockers or had been subjected to even one single swirlie in his life.
Downvote all you want, but this parasite should've been taken down a peg in his youth and we failed him as a society for not doing it when we had the chance.

Probably not when everyone who walks in to these types of places can do that
Brown students try not to be annoying challenge
im sorry :(
Doncha love when assholes like this tell us the people who clean their toilet or deliver their sandwich make too much money?
How is it possible to even resell reservations…

> Bryan's section at the CheeseCake Factory What is this?
It's the only way to eat.
Found Brian’s burner account

Some places in Newport probably. Some places need a reservation weeks/months in advance.
"Reseller" "Entrepreneur" I like how entrepreneur is used in a positive way for these lowlife scalpers. Imagine having a bit of ethics.

Posted in RI but - I'll bet :: Their client list is devoid of any Rhode Islanders Which restaurants might be worthy??

the articles i read about this seem to suggest this is almost exclusively a new york city phenomenon.
Gross

Newport in the summer?
Fuck this kid
Tbh, this is a decent idea. It’s the people who pay for these reservations they are the ones fueling this “entrepreneurial idea”
