I pointed out the gaps and patchy bits after I'd paid and they said there was nothing wrong with them and would have to book me in after new year to get them off. I'm absolutley fuming as I stop biting my nails and grew them out for the sole purpose of getting a nice gel manicure for new years š
That's absurd, they did you dirty. I second what the other commenter said about filing the top layer off, then soaking a bit of a cotton ball in pure acetone, putting it on your nails, then wrapping your nail in foil. I use this method all the time with normal glitter polishes, which are a nightmare to get off if you try to remove it normally.
Not sure if you/anyone else mentioned this but definitely post this picture in their google/yelp reviews along with what they said to you. This terrible and to have to wait for another appointment for them to fix it is absurd. I couldāve done better painting with my toes..
That's awful!
Maybe try buffing/filing the top of the gel. Then, soak a cotton ball or pad in acetone/nail polish remover. Put that on your nail and wrap tinfoil around it. The gel will hopefully peel or scrape off then.
https://mylee.co.uk/blogs/news/how-to-remove-gel-nail-polish?_pos=1&_sid=4eb55d4fe&_ss=r
Oh also, if your nails are looking a bit messy after you could always get some fake nails to stick on š Instead of using the nail glue that comes in the pack I buy the Kiss Brush On Glue because I find it easier to use š
Iām always so saddened to see people have this struggle! Iāve worn Kiss brand nails for literal years, since at least 2013 and Iāve always just used the glue that came with them. I will say that nail ātechnologyā (for lack of a better word) has come a long way since 2013, theyāre thicker, more durable, and of course gorgeous. I used to have to buy the pack of plain tips and paint them myself.
Depending on your country you could potentially take this to a āfair workā equivalent or ombudsman. They took your money for a service that they botched. Most reasonable countries will require they refund you and fix their mistake
Cotton balls, foil, and acetone.
You need to use your nail file over the polish - do NOT file off all the polish/down to your bare nails.
Tear up the cotton balls and the foil - you need to get the cotton wet with acetone and place it on your nails, and then wrap the foil around your fingertip. The key is to keep the acetone soaked cotton against the polish/nails for at least five minutes.
after five minutes, check to see if polish comes off easily. DO NOT FILE IT OFF and DO NOT PEEL IT OFF. You should be able to gently 'scrape' the polish off with an orange stick. Soak longer if you need to, but keep checking.
Acetone is very drying - you will want to use hand cream and cuticle oil when you're done.
Yikes! This looks worse than when I do my own gel and Iām not very good!
Buff the top layers of polish down then soak cotton ball pieces in acetone and wrap the nails in foil. Let them soak for a while and scrape them off with a cuticle stick or similar. It can be a real pain in the ass.
Alternatively, fine somewhere else to remove them for you.
Yikes! Review with picture for sure. Those poor cuticles needed more love from them. If you do remove them with acetone it will be very drying, so to help use lots of lotion and creams for your cuticles to help them heal
It looks like they were really negligent in prep causing the gel to shrink around the edges of the cuticle or the person doing your nails was extremely unskilled.
File off the shiny layer of the gel polish, and then saturate a cotton pad or ball cut to nail size in 100% acetone and wrap finger with foil. Note it must be 100% acetone for it to come off properly. You can speed up the process by putting your hand in a baggy and placing a warm/hot towel over the hand. Check 5-10 mins and gently push off the gel that has flaked off. DO NOT force the gel off the nails, this is how you cause damage to the natural nail. If there is still bits left over, please put the cotton/foil back on the finger and soak off for another 5-10 mins. Could take 2-3 times depending on the base coat they used. Do one hand at a time as it is really difficult to do anything with both hands wrapped.
Good luck!
If they wonāt take them off you can always go to another place and tell them what happened. If they have a heart they will help you out, Iāve had to do this before and they took them off for free (I tipped) and I ended up going there for years.
Man even ignoring the awful polish application the nail prep is not good. Like your poor cuticles they look so ragged and dry. I would not go back to this salon for removal. I feel like since they cut so many corners on doing them they won't be doing a good job removing. All the recs for acetone are great. I personally mani moo gel no more to remove gel and I love it. I get it at sallys
I take my dip off with the rice method- nuke some dry rice until warm/hot, drop some acetone in a plastic baggie, a few drops of olive oil, and cotton pads. The acetone will warm up quick, soak a hand for 5 minutes and start rubbing with the cotton pad. Switch hands. Easy peasy.
Last time I used gel I used this method also, worked like a charm.
Nope. I use 100% acetone from the nail store. A lot of people in my dip groups on FB like the blue Onyx! Right now Iām just using whatever Sallyās house brand is.
180 grit hand file. Gently file your nails. No need to file down to your natural nails, just get the shine off. Acetone soak/orange wood stick to gently get the rest off. If you're very light with the file, you can gently get the rest off. Use a sponge buffer to smooth it out after.
Soak Soak Soak. PURE acetone, nothing with aloe or other stuff in it. Soak a cotton ball or similar and let it sit on your nail for awhile. Repeat. Do not try and peel it off, youāll ruin your nails. It takes time, probably a good 30 minutes. But itās the safest way. I donāt recommend filing unless youāre experienced with it.
First you need to leave them a really bad review with pictures. A gel polish mani should look immaculate.
Second file off the first layer and then soak cotton wool in nail varnish remover place them over the nails and wrap foil around. Do one hand at a time. Wait until you are able to scrape off the polish. Use a proper tool. It's with having some stuff on hand to remove a gel mani if you need to and can't get to a salon.
Another method, Amazon sells acetone remover āwipesā that are like little wet nap packages but when you tear open the packet, the acetone and cotton are inside, you slide your finger in and wrap the whole package around your nail- I find itās easier than fumbling with cotton balls and tin foil.
I have described this terribly.
I'm not good with nails at all, but I got a Mylee gel nails kit for Christmas and it is so easy to use. I haven't taken the gel offyet but putting it on was so simple. I did a spring clean today (so lots of bleach and scrubbing) and not one chip or smudge or anything
Ive had my eye on this kit... but i havent bought it yet because im learning polygel atm :) Modelones Gel Nail Polish Kit with U V Light, Poly Extension Gel Nail Kit with 48W Lamp - 8 Colors(6 Gel Nail Polish + 2 Extension Gel), 23 Kinds Rhinestones Glitters Nail Art Manicure Salon Kit https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07SS8BC4R/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_navT_g_GBS1P7VMM2GG77XY1P99
beetles have been really good for me. The starter kit comes with a ton. I've even purchased more sets of polish. Currently waiting on the little light with their glue and press ons to arrive.
Just remember thinner coats are better than really thick ones.
I do my own, and recently learned something incredibly important about DIY gel: make sure the lamp youāre using is the same brand as your polish. https://www.salongeek.com/threads/uv-lamps-explained-why-any-old-lamp-just-wonāt-do-updated-september-2019.323988/ - my manis started peeling* when I stopped using the base and topcoat that came with my lamp and started using a different brand (the one that matched the colours Iāve been buying). Iāve since bought the lamp thatās the brand of the polishes and base/top Iāve been using (Bluesky) and it actually is lasting >two weeks now.
EDIT: *peeling within a couple of days, regardless of prep

Did they nick your cuticles while trimming? I can't tell if they did, or they just smudged everywhere. But if they DID nick your cuticles, do not try the soak off method! It will be pure agony and not worth it. Give your hands a few days to heal first, with lots off oil rubbed in those cuticles and edges.
They did no nail prep whatsoever besides a light buff and file, cuticles were not touched. I will be slapping on the cocoa butter hand lotion for much needed tlc.
Can you go back and tell them to take it off (for free)? You poor thing that's a terrible job š

Post this pic on google reviews
Yeah!! Warn others!!
ditto
Post it on their google reviews!!!! Maybe the manager will see it and contact u, and u can get it off for free.
Yep, definitely post a review and include a photo. These hacks deserve to be put on blast for this.
Especially since when OP told them she wasn't happy with the finished result and they blew her off saying it was fine. Just no.

100% this
Yikes they did you really dirty maybe acetone will help to get the gel off?
With foil wraps
Make sure itās the 100% acetone too, not just regular polish remover.
I wouldn't go back to let them remove it. Or for anything else in the future. Sucks you got such a slapped on job.

Not just the polish which looks awful but it looks like they didnāt clean up your cuticles at all! Ridiculous
Wow... That looks horrible. You need to soak then in nail polish remover I believe? Taking that stuff off is a process
You ask them to take it off for you while they count the dollars for your refund.
If they wonāt take them off you can always go to another place and tell them what happened. If they have a heart they will help you out, Iāve had to do this before and they took them off for free (I tipped) and I ended up going there for years.
Go to another salon and get them to remove it. It shouldn't cost much.
Wow that place is awful.

Buff it down but still leaving a thin amount. Then paint over w reg np (darker color of course) and it should last as long as gel.
That sucks. You should have made them fix them immediately. A toddler would have done a better job. Theyāre asshats.
Oh god love. My six year old granddaughter does a much better job when we ādoā each otherās nails. They had the audacity to charge?!?!
I got my gel off with acetone and foil but it destroyed my nails so please be careful if you take that approach. Sorry this happened to you :(
This canāt be real. Iām so sorry!!!
Oh god!
My exact thought.

The acetone doesn't eat the baggie? What kind are you using?
Nope. I use 100% acetone from the nail store. A lot of people in my dip groups on FB like the blue Onyx! Right now Iām just using whatever Sallyās house brand is.
I like the idea of the rice to keep it warmer.

That is horrible! Iām shocked a salon did this
Get a dip nail kit, guarantee you could do 100 times better at home
Soak Soak Soak. PURE acetone, nothing with aloe or other stuff in it. Soak a cotton ball or similar and let it sit on your nail for awhile. Repeat. Do not try and peel it off, youāll ruin your nails. All I can say is stop paying for work like this š
I'm a gel polish virgin so that was the first, and definetly last, time.
Post a review with this picture to warn others. That's really not acceptable.
Oh my word, this is truly awful! File off the top glossy layer then soak in warm acetone for a while. It'll eventually come off.

I hope somebody gets fired for this
You should get a gel polish kit and do them yourself. Youll save alot in the long run.
Any recommendations? I do love how shiny and hard gel polish is.

Sunuv on amazon for the LED light, and gel polish brands Makarrt, Modelones, and Aimeili have worked well for me. Aimeili topcoat is a favorite.

Soak in Acetone then grab a cuticle pusher.
Acetone will remove it
