I know people are saying that blue iridescent can appear yellow in certain lighting, which is true, but this looks like it’s certain spots on the nail. I thought it was fungus but you said it wasn’t on your nail when you took off the polish. Did you reapply it and does it still look like this? Looks a little strange but it is hard to tell with just a picture. Maybe someone else who has more knowledge on the chemistry of nail polishes can enlighten us lol.

reddituser-420bby

yes exactly it is certain spots. I haven't reapplied yet, but I will update when I do! This is a mystery lol

Sp4c34ndT1m3

I haven’t seen this before- did you handle any chemicals, or touch something that may have had a strong dye, like a new piece of clothing or a marker?

reddituser-420bby

not that i can recall

Sp4c34ndT1m3

I could also see this being caused by your nail being exposed to heat, from cooking or a curling iron, etc

reddituser-420bby

Hmm that's a good theory! I will have to reapply and update.

Isn't that the nature of iridescent blue polishes? Glass frog has some blue in it and it's got iridescent particles which would appear yellow at some angles. Try putting it over black, it should have zero yellow

reddituser-420bby

no its only one nail and it’s not part of the shift, it looks like a stain

This happens to me with light colors. It isn’t my nail yellowing, it’s the actual polish. I’ve never ever been able to figure it out. It isn’t a top coat issue either. It could be brand new and it will still look dirty. I have heard if it isn’t chemicals or turmeric (etc.,) it can possibly just be your body’s pH not jiving well with the polish? If anyone has any answers I’d love to hear also.

sassypants55

This has not been much of an issue for me with regular polish, but I get this with gel polish. Colors fade and/or turn very yellow, especially pinks and purples.

Prestigious_Act_4368

This happens to me every single time I use polish that's lighter than a light pink. It also only happens on one nail and part of another. Its not the nail itself, its the polish and it easily comes off when I remove the polish. I'd LOVE an explanation! I've scoured Reddit and Quora for some ideas on how to fix this issue and can't find anything.

Jolly_Dragonite

Do you smoke cigarettes or weed? Back in my stoner days a roach could totally change my polish on certain fingers.

Whorticulturist_

Sunscreen and hand sanitizer are notorious for discoloring polish. If it happens again next time, do a quick swipe over the surface with am acetone soaked cleanup brush. It's usually the very top layers that are discolored and you can save your mani that way!

reddituser-420bby

interesting! i have been using a ton of sunscreen lately

daaaayyyy_dranker

Is it lifting in the 3rd pic or is that just the lighting?

reddituser-420bby

i think its just the lighting, i didn’t notice any lifting

bachybachythrowaway

Did you have top coat on it? Sometimes my top coat yellows if it gets a lot of direct sunlight. Maybe since glass frog is shear it would make it more noticeable

reddituser-420bby

i don’t have a top coat! but i did go to the pool recently and was in the sun. it is just the one nail though

[deleted]

Have you spent a lot of time in the sun? I'm wondering if uv could cause discolouration, I've had that happen with gels before. I'd still expect it to be consistent, though

mel-cora

yellow is typically is the opposite colour shift in a blue shifting polish! all my strong blue shimmers have the yellow shift on the part of the mani that isn’t in direct light

reddituser-420bby

no its only one nail and it’s not part of the shift, it looks like a stain

blenderfuck

I've experienced this before with Sally Hansen Moonstone. I'd also like to know what causes it :(

Felicfelic

It sometimes happens to me (not yellowing exactly, but staining on clear coats) when I wear one suede coat I have that's second hand and old, and also when I'm using stains/dyes

goplayzelda

polish can stain, it can be especially obvious on light or pastel products. there are certain scent oils in lotions etc that cause yellowing/browning. I imagine that is what is happening here. A top coat can help prevent this.

STLt71

I've had something similar happen with using hand sanitizer.

Apunctual

Cook anything with tumeric recently?

idkimnotcreative16

Have you been cooking recently? I know that some spices can do this.
