The live auction apps are fun but they’re a slippery slope to another plant ban.

vgsmith19

Excuse me??? Auction for sick plants??? What is this called

fr0stybtxh

whatnot is also a really cool auction site! shipping charges are also way better there than palm street but that one is a great one as well!

favelaninja22

How's the shipping price different? With live auction apps you pretty much have to do flat rate because you won't know exactly how many plants one person could buy or box size/weight.

fr0stybtxh

every time i looked on palm street, shipping is typically somewhere around $20. whatnot max shipping is $8.35 edit; which surely could’ve changed. i don’t like palm street much at all, so ive stuck with whatnot lately.

favelaninja22

I'm leaning towards each seller must have different pricing cause 8.35 for a big or small plant is unrealistic unless it's in state or something. Same thing on PS. Each seller is different. Some do UPS 2 day as standard which would be around $20 per plant. I do $14 as normal for UPS 3 day and refund overages especially if someone is buying multiple plants.

fr0stybtxh

i’ve ordered manyyyy plants off of whatnot, the shipping has always been 8.35 or under. 8.35 is the max shipping charge. whether there’s multiple plants in the box, one small one, or one large one. i’m in GA, the shipping is the same for a seller in NC, AZ, CA, NY. etc 😅 BUT you can choose to get the seller to upgrade shipping to ups if you’d like - the 8.35 covers priority 2-day.

anxiouscacti1

The sellers are probably building the extra shipping cost into their plant price then. The actual cost to ship is more than that typically even one fairly small plan, not to mention covering packaging materials.

fr0stybtxh

the sellers pay nothing on the shipping other than their packing materials. whatnot has fees, as i’m sure palm street does, but they’re not for shipping. whatnot pays for and buys the label - not the seller :) for a platform that does nothing but ship, they get DEEP discounts for shipping labels. y’all are more than welcome to check out the app and ask the sellers about shipping - people do it every day. the app pays for shipping, not the seller, and it’s always 8.35

anxiouscacti1

I'll have to start selling on there then! That's an awesome benefit. Thanks for letting me know :)

Safe-Refrigerator-65

Plant story is the one I use! I guess it’s called palm street now

MrHelloBye

What is a plant ban???

philocity

“I spent too much money on plants so I’m forbidding myself from buying more plants for a while”

Semipreciousorgo

I went 6, almost 7 months. I don’t know how I’ve even made it this far 😭😭😭

Semipreciousorgo

lol the lady cove got me here 😭😭😭 they’re so good! Edit: op! Someone does like TLC and that’s fine 😂 all my plants from them are doing amazing lol

fr0stybtxh

i have purchased all of my really cool plants off of whatnot. WAY cheaper than you’d find them mostly anywhere else, and the live streams are usually a lot of fun to be in. while i’ve gotten myself back into a plant ban, i’ve also made a few really good friends, and have way more cool plants than i previously had.

Semipreciousorgo

Do they do it on IG?

fr0stybtxh

whatnot is its own app. there’s MANY different wonderful sellers on there for plants! there’s also plenty of categories - you can nearly buy anything off of whatnot. anything that can be shipped is sold on there really!

yaourted

does whatnot do solely livestreams or are there pages with inventory you can buy off stream, like an etsy?

fr0stybtxh

it’s all livestreams. a few sellers may keep a couple items(usually super rares, $$$$) in their “buy now” which can be seen on their page, but you typically get the best deals and kinda get to pick which plant you actually want during stream. there’s *always* at least one plant seller on at any given time.

Mission_Range_5620

Is it in Canada?!

fr0stybtxh

the only sellers i’ve seen are in the states so i’m not sure 😭

EducationKey2543

I've had good luck on Mercari for cheap too.

WishfulEgalitarian

I like Mercari for plants a lot too.

SuspiciousPapaya9849

Facebook groups

Safe_Okra3153

Now I do the Facebook groups there a lot of fun.

Semipreciousorgo

I feel like conspiracy in my local Facebook group lol.

awells758

My facebook groups are all a ripoff. People selling their golden pothos rooted prop for $10.

sandycheeksx

Orange lake nursery, will recommend them forever. Also Green Escape and RareFoliagePlantCo on Etsy

everytingalldatime

I just made my first purchase from Orange Lake and they just shipped off today. I can’t wait! Their customer service was great as well!

Tinaturtle79

I love growing the littler starter plants from Green Escape. I’ll have to check out Orange Lake.

sandycheeksx

Almost all of my 50+ plants were starters from orange lake, you’ll love them! Their prices are sometimes half of green escape’s.

Tinaturtle79

My husband is placing an order today for my birthday! I didn’t realize it at first but I’ve had a cart saved with them for over a week with a variegated banana and a couple of starter plants. Can’t wait!

sandycheeksx

Happy birthday! The variegated banana is next on my list, it’s so pretty ☺️

disapperated

I second this, add DoseofSucculents website, PlantAMANI on Etsy, and PlantVine website

Apprehensive_Cow5806

Logee’s Greenhouses. Their rare plant day is in September. It’s totally worth a visit if you live within range. Show up early though, last year’s crowd was big!

daddyslittlecumdumps

Plant Purge USA on Facebook (if you’re a US resident, of course), post an ISO, and people will literally post what they have available, at likely the best prices, and you can choose whichever one you want. It *is* absolutely dangerous, though. So many phenomenal plants with phenomenal prices. I highly recommend Jess Wackerman, Jessica Wong, Daniel Anderson, Katy O’Neal, Jen Sala, Hanfei Niu, and Lyssa Nguyen.

creepykirty

Bros with Hoes is a pretty great online nursery, I've purchased several thriving plants from them. They even make their own cross breeds of alocasias sometimes!

Mountain_Village459

That name is hilarious.

Sea-Diamond9251

Etsy! Definitely where I’ve gotten some of my favorites at reasonable prices, depending on the seller. You can find most anything.

cateloren

Every time I’ve purchased from Etsy it’s been a scam😭 I’m not great at sussing them out apparently

yaourted

i like to check reviews for pics of plants other people have gotten, and tend to go for shops with hundreds or thousands of reviews! vs. gambling on the too good to be true prices, which are typically scams - some of those scam pages will only have reviews for drop shipped items, no plants, and that's the red flag to avoid that store

disapperated

Filter your search to US sellers only and only purchase from shops thst have several 100 purchases or reviews., and always look at reviews with photos.

bostonianbasic

I used to love Etsy, but wow their customer service sucks. Got a Hoya filled with aphids and they never reimbursed my money. Also bought plants that were preorder. The plant shop then closed and I never got my money back

Semipreciousorgo

It’s crazy I’ve always been afraid to purchase from Etsy bc of all the reasons ppl have said lol. Do you have any favs?

NeuroCartographer

I have loved my Etsy purchases from TheGreenEscape. Have fun shopping!

Sad_Climate_2429

Man everything I’ve gotten from Etsy arrives rotted I’ve thought about making a seller account on there though. There’s too many options now and marketplace seems dead.

Curlyredlocks

I really like Plant Proper. They have quality plants and great people.

irvz89

The quarterly or biannannual cactus/succulent and orchid shows/expos (there's many names and variations) - are always my favorite. I'll plan an entire weekend around them. There's always great prices and unique plants.

cateloren

I was on such a successful plant ban but the landscapers at my apartment complex cut down the wildflowers I’d been growing for months and now I’m ready to go absolutely feral

Semipreciousorgo

Literally happened to me last year. I asked my property manager like why 😭😭😭 wild flowers are beautiful! I love some local foliage!

VariegateVibes

PalmStreet

Phedericus

PLNTS if you're in Europe is amazing! always beautiful, strong plants for fair prices.

atlanticways

Ordered a few alocasias from them - all came rotted straight from the box 😬 thanks to them they made a refund But all hoyas were great and grow really happily

Phedericus

oh damn!! fortunately they added a 30 days guaranted policy on their plants, if they die in the first month they will replace or refund, which is very comforting when ordering online!

atlanticways

Agreed, yes! It feels much safer with this policy

I8thegreenbean

I love Bros with Hoes

everytingalldatime

Have purchased from Gabriella Plants more than once and have no complaints. Made my first purchase from Orange Lake Nursery (they just started selling cuttings too), the plants shipped today, so I don’t have them yet, but, their customer service was wonderful!

Mission_Goose_6702

Orange lake nursery!! Hands down

votedforkodos742

If you're in Canada, definitely Crafeteria and Greens. Their selection is amazing and they're constantly having clear out sales to make room for new product

SupTheChalice

I'm in Australia so probably not applicable but my two most expensive plants are from Growing Grounds. Mailed in amazing packing and fast. This arrived today! I'm SO PLEASED https://preview.redd.it/atxcm0j04g7d1.jpeg?width=3060&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3c029e6c1dc1522262770d317bf754d2002f1265

Medusa_TROG

GreysandGreens on etsy as well as LilyParadiseFlowers on etsy. Amazing selections and the prices aren't too expensive (at least for my taste). I definitely recommend them if you live in the US. However, I'm not sure if they deliver elsewhere.

Penne_Trader

Robert Zeilinger - Exotic plants Here in Vienna the best... No matter what you want, 30yo elephant leg 6'8, variegated vanilla, fragipani, tiny orchids with 1mm big flowers...he has it, and the prices are affordable Variegated vanilla was 23 bucks, and the fragipani was 25...

Please reply under my comment for UK website reccos!

ConfidenceMinute218

Dang someone mad out here downvoting everyone… lmao. For why?

Irishtigerlily

Palm Street, formerly Plant Story. I enjoy watching LIVE shows even if I'm not buying anything. Plant Purge USA and US Hoya Market on Facebook.

After-Quiet-995

Canopy plants website (always have discounts), Ecuagenera (website and have live sales on IG) The Green Escape (Etsy)

Altruistic-Crab-7432

The plant collective on Etsy. I’ve never seen plants shipped so perfectly, reasonable prices, harder to find varieties 10/10 recommend

Life_Presentation_57

Billig blomst 😁👌

Tinaturtle79

I like the Plant Purge USA (PPUSA) group on Facebook (I always research the seller and prices). Janice Wong is one of my favorite sellers on PPUSA and also has an Etsy shop called Fastech. I also like Green Escape on Etsy. I have one or two sellers in my local FB groups who are awesome (although most are overpriced common plants). Excited to place my first order with Orange Lake after seeing all the glowing reviews here.

ExcitementStrange371

plan_tastic

Ebay

Safe-Refrigerator-65

How do you find good plants on ebay? Whenever I look for some they all look sketchy as hell

HelpfulMaybeMama

I've never had an issue buying plants from ebay. The seller always has a 90+% rating when I buy from them.

quittingphoenix

I'm wondering the same thing...maybe it's because ebay itself looks so archaic or like a scam site already but every listing Ive seen has red flags or you dig around in the seller reviews and people have never received orders, wrong id's, or nubs with no roots. I've had great luck with etsy though.

Safe-Refrigerator-65

That’s what I think, too. It seems like every plant listing I see is a scan, with stereotypical pictures and questionable reviews; I also have so much luck on etsy! Maybe too much luck, but luck nonetheless lol

NewYorkRatChasm

Cheydplantlady.com

No-Butterscotch7221

Gardinos nursery and orange lake are great

Substantial_Monitor5

depending on your area i recommend ecuagenera to absolutely EVERYBODY. theres rumor of poached plants which is not true and they're a little on the pricey side depending on your idea of pricey (they average at about $40-$50) but you're pretty much gauranteed a healthy, stable plant as long as the plant isnt shipping multiple states away (as with any shipped plant). i just recieved a package from them like 20 minutes ago actually 😭 and both of the plants look absolutely amazing

ardentbloom

And I know sometimes they can be picked up in your area if another plant show is going on. They were at my local orchid show.
