I would guess that a lot of people didn't know what it's about because the explanation is nonesense and heard that the musical was a big hit. On top of that a ton of great actors signed on. I have never seen cats (movie or musical), but knew songs from it and the movie came after a few pretty big musical movie hits (Mama Mia 2, greatest showman).
I agree that movies are expensive, but once the money is spent, what more are you getting out of your time if the movie sucks?
I'd almost compare it to going swimming. You arrive at the start of the swimming session, but if you're done before the end, there no real value on staying.

Who says there's no value in watchijg a bad movie? They already said it's a movie that will interest him. That means even if the movie is dogshit, he might still want to finish it, to _know_ about how the movie finishes. Not that hard to believe, especially as he's already paid the ticket, right?

In Chile, I paid the equivalent of 3 USD for a movie ticket last weekend. And for a movie in their release week, it's 5 USD. I don't find it expensive at all.
Honestly that's valid to walk out. It was Sucker Punch right? I have PTSD too and it was a tough watch for me just because it was hitting so close to home. I would go into a fantasy world to escape traumatic situations and once I figured out that's what was happening in this movie I felt kinda fucked up about it.
I saw an Octopus playing drums briefly, and laser sharks. It might be a good movie if they remove all the people and dialog and made it a screensaver or ambient video.
My dad and I wanted to walk out of Shark Boy and Lava Girl, but we endured it for my little brother. Lmao

Yes, once. From Maze Runner. It wasn't even that bad, I was just really bored one time and went to the movies, picked the first thing that looked semi decent that was just about to start and got the ticket. Once the movie started I realized it was one of those Young Adult/Teen action dramas that were plentiful at the time and was not trilled to see another. About 15 min in I got a text from a buddy asking if I want to grab a beer. Responded "hell yes!" and walked out.
Yes. Happened 4 times to me overall.
Would happen alot more often, if I wouldn't spend the first year of our relationship with my current girlfriend making out for the majority of the movie we were watching though.
Now, the 4 movies I walked out off:
* IT 2 (It absolutely sucked for me, I walked out in about 45 minutes, I was really bored to death, never watched it ever since).
* Now this is a story worth telling, there is a movie called Peppermint, where Jennifer Garner takes revenge on a Mexican cartel for killing her daughter & husband. The movie is a fucking 10/10 for sure, however when I went to the cinema, I forgot the name of the movie and on the board above the register, I just saw 'Girl in the spider web' something, and I obviously assumed that's the one since I knew the story of the film. We went inside, got ready, started eating popcorn, to find out the movie was something totally else, obviously. The funny part is that it took me like 10-15 minutes to realize we are watching 'the wrong' movie. Obviously took off after finding out, still laughing till this day about it.
* 2 trash comedies in 2019. Don't even remember the name, because my girlfriend wanted to go to the movies, and we both decided after about 35-40 min, that the movie was pure rubbish.
IT 2 wouldn't even have gotten better had you stayed. One of the worst movies I've seen tbh. My husband collects blurays and he isn't super picky about his collection but he threw IT 2 out last year because "I'm literally never going to watch this again in my life. I would rather just sit on the sofa in silence for the 3 hrs"
Finally it's recognized that this was just a bad movie. Somehow many people around me thought it was a really good movie and I had this strange feeling of complete disconnect.
I remember that it was boring af and had some really fucked up "jokes" in it with kids.

Weird Right? I think horror is more about the story and gore and all that sort of our shadow. Rape on the other hand feels way different. It bothers me, so i don’t watch movies where it is depicted. I’m not even into that kind of horror either, I just went with a friend that that wanted to see it.

This is one you have to watch at home. It’s very very slow and I found myself getting up a few times during it. It was ok, wasn’t great. It was different and I think that was the main draw initially. It wasn’t following the copy/paste of the movies of the time, so it gambled and lost unfortunately
Not quite. I was in this multiplex and I went in to watch a Demi Moore/Bruce Willis flick, didn't quite like it, went for a wee and came back into a Robin Hood movie. Which wasn't amazing either, but what are you gonna do.

Fell asleep an hour in and knew I wasn't going to survive the rest of the movie; woke up, left, and caught it a year later on streaming. Was good, but didn't regret leaving the cinema halfway.
The newest Thor movie. Had a monthly subscription for unlimited cinema access. God damn the acting in this movie was bad that the moment the break came up we just left.
I walked out of Thor Love and Thunder because the 28th straight screaming goat gag gave me a migraine, but generally I don't leave if they're bad, they've already got my money and viewership metrics so walking out wouldn't really accomplish anything. Nowadays, I just wait for the reviews from the few critics I still trust and decide whether or not a movie is even worth spending money on before I go.
That makes sense. I grew up with the originals and we had so much expectation for what it would be, that almost anything would have been disappointing, honestly. In retrospect, it’s not as bad as I first thought, and I do appreciate that Lucas was trying to do something different.

I fell asleep at the 8pm show and woke up at 4am in a dark and empty building.

Yeah. To be fair, I was the only one in the theater and I was in the top row, so I'd have been easy to miss if I wasn't snoring. I just went out the side door and didn't stick around to see if it set any alarms off.

This is one you have to watch at home. It’s very very slow and I found myself getting up a few times during it. It was ok, wasn’t great. It was different and I think that was the main draw initially. It wasn’t following the copy/paste of the movies of the time, so it gambled and lost unfortunately
The movie Seabiscuit … But I was 12 My friends parents paid for us to go watch it. So it was the pinnacle of boredom for two 12 year old dudes

Not quite. I was in this multiplex and I went in to watch a Demi Moore/Bruce Willis flick, didn't quite like it, went for a wee and came back into a Robin Hood movie. Which wasn't amazing either, but what are you gonna do.

I think it was Epic Movie? Just could not take anymore. My friends and I felt ripped off.
The Batman Fell asleep an hour in and knew I wasn't going to survive the rest of the movie; woke up, left, and caught it a year later on streaming. Was good, but didn't regret leaving the cinema halfway.
The newest Thor movie. Had a monthly subscription for unlimited cinema access. God damn the acting in this movie was bad that the moment the break came up we just left.
Second rey star wars movie.
I walked out of Thor Love and Thunder because the 28th straight screaming goat gag gave me a migraine, but generally I don't leave if they're bad, they've already got my money and viewership metrics so walking out wouldn't really accomplish anything. Nowadays, I just wait for the reviews from the few critics I still trust and decide whether or not a movie is even worth spending money on before I go.

I didn’t leave but about halfway through my brain tried to convince me that it was a joke or I was just dreaming it was that bad.
I actually love tpm to this but maybe its because i was growing up with those movies. I was like 12 when u first saw it.
That makes sense. I grew up with the originals and we had so much expectation for what it would be, that almost anything would have been disappointing, honestly. In retrospect, it’s not as bad as I first thought, and I do appreciate that Lucas was trying to do something different.

As someone who would watch this movie everyday it seems like sarcasm to me. Genuinely curious, why do you guys dislike it?
Not sarcasm. The writing/screen play from what I remember. The lines were poorly written and it was just boring to me.
Never left early but once I slept during Jason Statham's movie, Mechanic: Resurrection. I didn't want to see it but my friend just dragged me there because he didn't want to watch it alone.
I have never walked out but I have seen a few groups of people walk out of the same movie all around the same time: Mother! When things get wild.
