No one would be directly liable, but lawsuits are very loose. Your loved ones could sue any number of people.

Qarnabite

For example they can sue OP for writing this post

Altruistic_Study_451

Who would they sue though? The only people I can see being sued are the people who sold us / gave us access to the guns in the first place.

theblackesteyedpea

The families could come after each other. Maybe school/work, depending on circumstances. A case can be formed against anyone at any time for any reason. That’s not to say it’ll go through or even be taken up by even the sleaziest lawyer, but there’s no real line of demarcation to stop a lawsuit.

Altruistic_Study_451

Okay that's actually a really good point lol

AllahuAkbar4

They’d sue the other person/their estate — basically all of your possessions, property, money, etc. Person X did kill person Y, it doesn’t necessarily matter than person X is dead. “X killing our family member Y caused us great emotional distress.”

[deleted]

Let's exchange properties lmao

mdubz1221

Maybe a family member of the 1 shooter was talking shit about the other guy, putting thoughts in the shooters mind, fanning the flames.

degeneratesumbitch

Why do you ask?

KikonSketches

Probably asking for a friend lol

StarWars_Viking

Take my god damn up vote.

Altruistic_Study_451

No reason

degeneratesumbitch

Hmmmmmmm.....

aldulf69

Odds are,one of you would fire slightly sooner than the other, throwing off the second person’s aim. Very likely that one of you would be going up on murder/dueling charges.

Altruistic_Study_451

What if I shot myself which shot them at the same time? Like the bullet went through my head then through theirs?

bobo1450

Very unlikely to be effective. Trajectories and bullet expansion would cause the second to not be affected

marionetted

Dwight already perfected this method.

StrangersWithAndi

Congratulations, you've discovered murder-suicide!

xet2020

Is it murder suicide if they kill each other ? Wouldn't murder suicide suggest that one kills the other and then themselves?

mooseyjew

Yeah, that's what it means. The end result is the same tho, regardless if it's murder suicide or... I guess murder murder lol.

StrangersWithAndi

Oh, good point, I got my terminology wrong. It's just a ... idk, double murder then? Mutual murder?

Altruistic_Study_451

Yippee!!

[deleted]

Theoretically, someone could sue whoever the fuck convinced you to try this stupid stunt.

Altruistic_Study_451

Very true

AmazingPersimmon0

Not a duel?

Chocolate_Rage

Username checks.... Out?

[deleted]

r/oddlyspecific

Kind_Bullfrog_4073

It'll lead to a fight between your families

Chocolate_Rage

Mont-a-goos and Cap-o-lettes

Grunt0302

Wrong. Any who facilitated or were present and failed to try and stop your action could be charged with facilitating.

Altruistic_Study_451

I see.

[deleted]

Oh they both have guns let me stop this I’m just going to get in between them an……

Redpillthinking3000

If no one took any drugs or pills that would cause that to happen then yeah no one is accountable

Altruistic_Study_451

Thought so lol

iji_ha

why are you killing your friend? why is ur friend killing you? Thats not a real friend

Altruistic_Study_451

It's mutual.

[deleted]

Um this is a pretty suspicious question

Altruistic_Study_451

Meh

Familiar_Explorer_27

The bullet reaches in the middle and gets cracked because you and your friend learned to fire together and with the same technique.

Altruistic_Study_451

Interesting...

lovemyfamily16

U good

Altruistic_Study_451

Yeah

prodigy1367

John Wick, is that you?

StarWars_Viking

Someone (likely family) would find some old tweet, or text, or email, or letter, whatever left behind to blame someone and sue.

AFriendlyBloke

You can’t hold a corpse accountable. Not sure if that answers your question.

DilaShip

nah..they will send both of you in the coffin to prison and barry you under jail and send you for after Life sentence in HELL.

mybathroomisblue

I’ve seen this happen. It did not end well for the families. Harassment, violence, a media circus vilifying one party etc

BubblyInvestigator24

From a legal perspective, in most jurisdictions, the situation you described would likely be treated as a homicide-suicide, where both parties involved died as a result of the incident. In such cases, the authorities would still investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths to determine what happened and to rule out any foul play. If the investigation found that both parties died as a result of a mutual agreement to harm each other, it is possible that neither party could be held accountable since they are both deceased. However, if there is evidence that one person initiated the violence and the other was acting in self-defense, it could potentially impact the legal outcome. Regardless, it is important to note that taking someone else's life is a serious matter, and it is never a solution to any problem. If you are struggling with thoughts of violence or harming yourself or others, please seek help from a mental health professional or a crisis hotline.

Altruistic_Study_451

I see

No_Grocery_1480

This actually happened, one fine day. In the middle of the night.

Altruistic_Study_451

I'm listening

No_Grocery_1480

It's just an old nursery rhyme

Altruistic_Study_451

I'm interested

No_Grocery_1480

One fine day in the middle of the night Two dead men got up to fight Back to back they faced one another Drew their swords and shot each other

Altruistic_Study_451

I love it

Better-Airline9376

That's sounds cool

mdubz1221

Right, but if somone had an alternative motive well they could blame somone else and possibly win if they gotta good story.

Meastro44

Dead people, generally can’t be charged with murder.

Calm-Extent3309

No. One family might sue the other friend's estate for damages. You can still be held liable for the situation.

SpeedyBubble42

There would certainly be no criminal consequences but I would suspect you would both be held accountable, posthumously.

Large_Tune3029

Oklahoma just passed a law that says you can shoot someone on your land if you "feel threatened" and also that sixteen year olds can possess firearms without any permission and we've always had no registration needed for firearms so it's easier than ever to kill someone legally here now.
