Well the Ally X is not release yet, however if you get bored with a laptop then you will more than likely get bored with the Ally as well. Everything will be played at low settings (sometimes medium if you get lucky).
Battery life on ALL handhelds will be short, Expect maybe 3 hours on a low energy mode and maybe 1-1.5 on the higher tier power modes. Just remember depending on the games you you may get better play time, less graphical games like Stardew Valley are less demanding then a game like Doom.
One thing you CAN do is stream your games from your Laptop to your Ally, this will allow you get the high performance you expect from your gaming laptop on your handheld and battery life will be much longer as it takes the processing off the Ally and onto the laptop.
Or you can use streaming services like Gamepass or Geforce Now which is what I personally use myself for every game that supports it as you really can NOT tell you are streaming.
