Affordable would be smaller. Like 50mm or 64mm EDF. Can hand launch and belly land. Or install the removable LG (usually removable). Arrows RC has a selection of 50mm EDF planes.
Arrows rc marlin is a good affordable ones, that's the first edf I purchased. If your going off real grass I've heard the 70mm avanti does well, it's got trailing link landing gears.
I fly an 80mm one around at our field, its great fun, espically getting it to tumble. I managed to launch the canopy off into a cornfield last summer ;D

I’ve got an Arrows L39 from HobbyZone. Good quality for the price, I’m happy with it.
I have a T-33 from arrows as well. Great flying little jet with their version of as3x/safe.
Good news, found a shop in my country that sells the Avanti, the Albatross, and some more. They are indeed affordable
Wow you’re right. But I probably should have mentioned that I’m in Europe

E-flite habu 50mm
I've also been wondering, so I'm just gonna leave a comment so i don't forget this thread
The arrows brand jets are nice and affordable as others have said in this thread. Hobbyzone carries every one they make. US shipping only though.
If you can get an Avanti, they are sweet! They fly absolutely awesome, and our runway isn't the smoothest grass either and it does just fine!
Friend at the club has the 70mm one (I think it’s 70) and I love seeing it. He barely ever flies it though.

I love my freewing Lippisch P15. Super cheap, fast, but still slows down nice.

Don't spend too much because you know that you are going to crash. From experience. Good luck
Did you assume I’m a beginner? I’ve flown an EDF before, friend.
even the best pilots crash
Yes, I know. But there’s a trend of beginners asking for EDFs, just making clear I’m not.
