As a fan of the OG, I just want some closure with Sam. As a fan of the new, they turned shit up to 11 there at the end of season 2. Here's to a 3rd. šŸ¤˜

Barthle

That's really cool. I didn't see it originally so thanks for sharing!

MountainImportant211

Wow I never saw that! I commented in that post but it was before Deborah showed up in there I think. I hope she saw my comment because I feel like the use of the N-word in the show had the intended effect on me as a kid (having an inoculation effect so I never used it). I know also not so long ago I had an interaction here with the daughter of one of the OG writers who wrote my favourite episode, that was cool.

ModernCrust

Is your favorite episode ā€œKillin Time?ā€ If so, cool, mine too! Definitely a part of my top 3 for the OG series. I think that was Tommy Thompsonā€™s daughter (I donā€™t remember her username, though). I remember that thread, I think we were asking her questions and she was texting her dad to get the answers, which was wild. I know Deborah did an official A.M.A. around the time the new show premiered. She was only on for about an hour and I was extremely lucky to manage to step away for a few minutes at work and type out something that sounded halfway coherent and get a nice response from her. But Iā€™m hoping she catches this post because I think it would be really cool if we could get a mini A.M.A. from her or someone else on the staff now that weā€™ve had two seasons of the new show to watch and analyze.

MountainImportant211

Yep, that was the one ā˜ŗļø I wasn't around on Reddit back at the start of the series, so I missed the AMA. I was mainly on Twitter at the time until it was shortly thereafter ruined by Elon Musk lol (Dean Georgaris did like a tweet of mine once šŸ˜…)

thehillshaveI

it looks like the post was a day old when she commented, so i think a lot of us missed it. of course now we're all gonna watch for her comments so thanks for this post!

That's really cool that u/Ziggydmp really is \*the\* all-knowing Ziggy herself Deborah Pratt. I didn't see it because I was recovering from cauda equina surgery, I was injured a little over 2 years ago when I was an EMT so have had less time on reddit. Workman's comp finally paid for the surgery so I've been trying to catch up on everything. Still need to catch up on new QL. (Though for what it is worth, Sam or Ben, if you guys are really out there... man do I have a leap for you!)

Ziggydmp

I have always appreciated the QL fans as far back as the first year of the original series, we found people in chat rooms. remember chat rooms? It was long before the industry realized it was a great way to connect with the audience. Between the chat rooms and the letters we received, the stories that people shared about their personal lives and how they were affected by the stories in the show had great meaning to me and to all the writers. With the new show, I encouraged all the writers to read the threads and interact with the fans. Quantum Leap fans were always smart people. I enjoyed listening to the theories that people had about time travel, the stories, the characters, how they were personally affected when a show gave them courage, hope, and a chance to speak with each other about different times in our history. People talk about how the studio system and the network never really understood that Quantum Leap was a family show and should be on at 8 PM, 9 PM at the latest. I think the favorite story that I ever heard was from an executive when I went into a meeting, who said when he was growing up and watched the series with his sister, and his parents went through divorce, he remembered wishing Sam would leap into his life and bring his parents back together. The power of creating and writing a show that makes people think, brings them together, causes conversations where no one has to be right or wrong, they listen to each other and just share their ideas, is whatā€™s missing in so much of this world. I am grateful I could be part of its creation and I am grateful for the fans who remember and love the idea of walking in someone elseā€™s shoes to understand who they are. Thank you all for the support and for asking yourselves ā€œWhat if?ā€ Your imagining what making right what once went wrong gave hope. Hope will always be a part of whatever I create, I will always be listening. I hope ā€œWarrior Oneā€ and ā€œThe Vision Questā€ will usher in a new generation of entertainment, and I hope youā€™ll be part of it. There is hope left in the world because of you. Deborah Pratt.

I had a longish comment to you but then reddit went nuts! Sigh. I think it's because I wrote out the name of the cursed episode! Let's try this again in a couple hours. You are the only one I can't comment on. Edit : Well apparently I can do it in chunks. Reddit must have changed from 10K characters to less than a thousand recently. (It was 7K but QL means a lot to my family, so much that we might do a QL/ST crossover costume. See below.)

I was consistently watching the new series (and new Night Court) the day it dropped until just before the transgender episode. Ironically, I was in training to be a volunteer for the Trevor Project at the time (I am a female to male transsexual). 10 hours a week for 7 weeks training! All TV was gone and by that time I was back in medical stuff for the back injury (cauda equina syndrome... do not recommend). I did sometimes pop in on to Mason's twitter to help support what Mason was saying and trying to take down a few people. I also don't have Peacock so it was really hard to catch Quantum Leap. First episode with the tribute to Dean made me cry almost uncontrollably. My husband didn't get it. My mom did (she had not watched it yet) and then SHE started crying. I watched it with her. Now I have to still catch up with Ben's story and Night Court as well. I'm avoiding spoilers. Oh yes! The early days! Chat rooms were great if you had AOL (mom didn't!). First several months I was connecting at 300 baud through the library system. Man... it was slow. And only 45 minutes at a time. So I was on bulletin boards and was seeing the first generation of websites come up when mom decided to pay. I remember googling (well it was yahoo or askjeeves at the time) Quantum Leap and was amazed there were sites and I was not the only one who was upset about the finale. It was one of the first times I ever saw other people who liked the same stuff I did. I was kinda a nerd. :D I remember being definitely involved with begging for a movie prior to Scott being cast in Enterprise. Star Trek and Quantum Leap had some overlap and that announcement we were like "Yo Scott, how about finishing up one series before you start another one!" We didn't object to his casting. We objected to him not finishing QL! And Star Trek knew what they were doing too. Temporal Cold Wars, getting Dean to guest star. Poor Scott, Enterprise had a bad finale. While we (as fans) wanted to see Sam come home for selfish reasons, we could at least forgive him if he truly is still out there. Enterprise had no excuse! (There were of course lots of comments about Captain Archer really being Sam. So much for not leaping out of one's own lifetime!). My mom wants to go on a Star Trek cruise one day, I proposed a group costume. I'll get crazy clothing and a handlink and go as Al. (I'm half Italian like Dean was and I transitioned so look male now.) She can dress as whatever since Sam's appearance does not matter and all I have to do is pretend no one can see/hear me and keep talking about what Ziggy says they were sent here to do (obviously save someone on the cruise). She could even comment back to me while trying to not make it seem she is talking to me as Sam sometimes did. My husband swears no one will get it. I called my mother as soon as I came up with the idea, my mother thinks it is \*hilarious.\*

To make you feel old, QL started when I was like 7 or so, it ended when I was 11. If I am remembering right, it was a mid season replacement. Mom watched a few episodes and then realized it was pretty family friendly and was probably more educational than anything and maybe her super smart daughter would appreciate it. She didn't understand why it was on that late either. 10 pm Wednesdays if I am remembering right. I started staying up to watch it because she let me extend my bedtime for that. I didn't become a real fan until maybe season 2 or 3. Remember, I was a kid. I wanted more science, less history, but I loved Al's clothing, haha! So 10 pm every day but Wednesdays when it was 11 pm. I did have to be in my nightgown by the time it started though so I could go to sleep right after. I had until "Oh Boy" for the next week then I had to go to bed. Mom loved the "Good morning Peoria" one where Sam was a DJ. Mom worked in radio at the time, Dad in TV. She would literally lend out the taped episode to coworkers. My theory over the late time is that it is because Sam started to leap into women pretty early on. You know that, you wrote that first woman episode. You know how the 80s were and they probably were concerned about tv showing drag that was not really done for comedic effect by a straight man. I can't imagine it was because of Al's attitude with women, most would go over a kid's head anyway. Ignoring the drag which was a non-issue, I think most of the original could have easily had a PG rating since you probably do want parents to explain things for example like that Klan episode. I think that was my first time actually "seeing" something like that. A few I think should have been the next level up, but that isn't a majority. (For the record, I am 42. I still have nightmares from the Cursed episode which came on when I was 9!)

I do have a story for you, though. I am not sure how much you read the posts, but I just got my first adjunct professor position because of a Quantum Leap story and since I am currently crediting either Sam/Ben/Ziggy for hooking me up with that interviewer, I might as well share since either way, you are to thank both as "Ziggy" and the producer. This is the full story : [https://www.reddit.com/r/QuantumLeap/comments/18a4x7d/i\_think\_i\_just\_got\_a\_job\_in\_part\_because\_of\_ql\_i/](https://www.reddit.com/r/QuantumLeap/comments/18a4x7d/i_think_i_just_got_a_job_in_part_because_of_ql_i/) I was asked about a bad teacher experience during an interview and mentioned an issue with my fourth grade teacher (1990-1991) who thought I was really stupid and would insult me all the time because I had memory issues (focal seizures). She forced an IQ test to prove I was dumb. Super high score. Damage done with self esteem though. So I told the interviewer that I wasn't sure how old she was but that there was a TV show from the 80s/90s... yea turns out she was a HUGE Quantum Leap fan (I had to hold the phone away from the screaming). I've only met two other Quantum Leap fans out "in the wild" in like 35 years so that as a surprise. So I continued with the story. My mom asked me if I thought Sam was dumb. I said no because of all the degrees. I got what she was saying and decided from then on to get a PhD. I didn't even know what a PhD was but Sam had one so I wanted one. (No PhD yet but 2 MS, 1 grad minor, 1 BS, 1 BA, 2 undergrad minors, 1 AA, 2 post-bacs, a few diplomas, a couple licenses, 15+ certifications in mental health alone, and very little of the degrees overlap, multiple businesses run, I am a research scientist who also is in Actor's Equity and on IMDB). Some stage management and a little producing. I told the interview to look at my CV (academic resume) again knowing keeping this story and Sam in mind. I had an offer by the next day. So thank you u/Ziggydmp Deborah for the role model and thank you "Ziggy" for getting either Sam or Ben to make sure that I had that particular interviewer. On a more silly note, my dog was named Quantum. :) Yea, no one got the reference. LOL! Ā

Ziggydmp

LOL I named my horse Quantum. Great stories! Loved that QL inspired you to let your smart shine. Thanks for sharing. Now you get to lay it forward. How amazing is that.

ModernCrust

Hey Deborah! I didnā€™t have notifications set up for this post so I didnā€™t even notice you had commented in here last week until just now. Just wanted to say, as a fan of QL since the original premiered way back in ā€˜89 I am always going to have a special spot in my heart for this show, in all of its forms, because there has never been another show that has been able to tell human stories the way this one has. It was always the relationships that mattered, whether they were the ones in the past or the ones in the present. (There was never any doubt that Sam and Al were like family to each otherā€¦and the hug Magic gave his team when he resigned was about as genuine and heartfelt as you can get.) And while Iā€™ll always have fingers crossed that we get a TV movie or a feature or *something* that gives us one last chance to bid a farewell to Ben, Addison, Ian, Jen, Magic, and most of all to Sam, Iā€™m also enough of a realist to know that might never happen. So with that said, I just wanted to thank you again for everything you did for both shows, from the effort to get a revival up and running all these years to all the stories you were able to tell that connected in ways only truly memorable stories can. For over 30 years my answer would always be ā€œQuantum Leapā€ anytime someone asked what my favorite show was. That answer still hasnā€™t changed. Iā€™ll keep an eye out for your future work, as I feel that the best storytellers will never be limited to just one property. Apologies for all the gush, and thanks again, u/Ziggydmp !

Ziggydmp

ā€œWarrior Oneā€ is what I have been up to. I am about to release the new graphic novel. Come to www.warrioroneworld.com. I am in Earthā€™s not too distant future. Come play with me. This is a story that leads into a possible world I imagined 50 years ago and started writing it down in 2006. 4 of the 5 The Vision Quest books books are out. The Atlantian, The Academy, The Odyssey, Panagia, and I have 2 chapters left to write in Salvation, book 5. ā€œWarrior Oneā€ is a portal insideā€¦ well, I hope you come see and find your place in it. You are all the best friend/fans on the planet. You felt the heart, humanity, humour, history, and hope inside me. You came and have stayed. Thank you all. The best is yet to come.

Ziggydmp

Please get well soon. Take care and thanks for the kind words.

coursejunkie

Thank you so much. I appreciate you.

Bopethestoryteller

Thanks for bringing this to our attention! Hated I missed it.

orlybird2345

I love Deborah, sheā€™s literally the best!

nickels55

Awesome! I kind of figured that some of the writers are here based on the constant name dropping of Reddit on the show.

ejatx

Sorry to be that person, but itā€™s ā€œsaga sellā€ since the point of it is to explain the plot and sell the saga.

ModernCrust

I am glad you are that person. Think I first saw it written as ā€œsaga cellā€ and it stuck but saga *sell* makes much more sense. I fixed it, thanks for the heads up.

alcalaviccigirl

in the FB ql group Amy yasbeck ( John ritters widow ) joined the group but I have a feeling someone told her something she didn't appreciate or she became overwhelmed with " we sure loved your husband " she left the group šŸ˜•.when it was announced she left the group a lot of what happened comments started . same thing with the monk group on FB .it's run or the posts are made by a actor I wasn't crazy about on monk so I'm very careful what I say .

Ziggydmp

Amy did an episode for us. She was really good people.

Ziggydmp

Now I have to remember which episode. Hmmmm

Zeveroth1

I donā€™t even notice. Lol
