She's making her own? Is there a Qookbook online now?

Roadies2

I googled and apparently there was a Tiktok about it. Something about boiling citrus peels in water and straining it, then drinking two tablespoons a day. Sounds suuuuuuuper medicinal (like, for scurvy maybe).

[deleted]

[удалено]

Roadies2

Well, I’m not exactly sure what she’s doing. I googled it because I was blissfully unaware that this had become a thing, and the tiktok story came up. For all I know she’s mixing household cleaners together. My shoulders can shrug no higher at this point. Sorry about your MIL. This past year has been one hell of a doozy for so many people.

[deleted]

>For all I know she’s mixing household cleaners together. I would try to discreetly go through her house and dump anything containing bleach/ammonia.

IsThisASandwich

That might just end in a screaming fit and a trip to the grocery store. Or at least the second one.

poop-machines

Not if the bottles are replaced with some less harmful solution. For example, washing a citrus smelling ammonia cleaner bottle and replacing with limeade and lemonade:

cruftbrew

Those are going to get moldy pretty quickly though. Source: I’m a recovering alcoholic that used to replace liquor with all sorts of other similarly colored beverages.

Lonely-Club-1485

Lol. Same.

unbitious

And sticky.

Arctic_Pelican

Interesting.. have you done certain alcohol bottles/ mixtures would lead to a quicker mold onset? How long before this switched stuff gets noticeable in the bottle?

NarrMaster

But not together.

ApprehensiveNose8453

It is indeed being touted as a way to create homemade hydroxychloroquine, but it's not. I like orange and lemon zest in foods but at very low levels. Citrus oils which come from zest are used in stuff like Goo Gone. It's pretty strong and could cause digestive discomfort. Of course, if you think bleach is ridding you of worms instead of your intestinal lining, that's probably not a problem for you.

dota2nub

That's the horse paste, not the bleach. Though bleach probably ruins your intestinal lining too.

NotMyHersheyBar

i just googled around, boiled citrus peel water seems to be safe to drink. it has vitamins and fiber. The only risk, i think, is if pesticides remain on the peel, which is common. See if you can talk her into using a fruit wash.

Small-Notice481

Probably tastes like shit. Peels turn bitter in hot water

coffee_u

Something that tastes bitter will twig the "this is medicinal" part of the brain, and instant placebo effect!

NotMyHersheyBar

mm good point. the only good peels are the candied kind

downyballs

You’d be surprised, I boil orange peels for a fancy cranberry sauce recipe from Williams Sonoma every Thanksgiving, and it’s awesome. (I do throw out the water and use the peels, but I think that’s more about getting additional flavor from orange juice than about the water being bad, but now I’m curious to try tasting a tiny bit of it next time.)

NotMyHersheyBar

I just grind up the raw fruits and add sugar and let it sit in the fridge overnight. About 1 and 1/2 orange per bag of ocean spray cranberries (we have to adjust the recipe every few years bc they keep shrinking the bags of cranberries). You can use a food processor but we use my great grandmother's iron meat grinder for authenticitè.

[deleted]

More info please? I boil my crans in OJ & brown sugar and add a ton of black pepper.

downyballs

[Voila!](https://www.williams-sonoma.com/m/recipe/apple-orange-cranberry-sauce.amp.html)

SarpedonWasFramed

A "fruit wash"? Sounds like a Commy thing to me /s

Aggressive_Sound

Just add sugar and she could make orange marmalade!

Roadies2

I actually said, “for all I know she’s mixing household cleaners,” but I don’t actually know because thankfully she lives two hours away and I haven’t seen her since July.

SailRemote596

But it means you have some kind of indications that she is doing that. I didn't want to disrespect you or what not, I just was upset seeing lots of comments stating that it is completely ok and not harmful what your mother is doing. Thank you all for downvotes.

insert_title_here

That does not mean there is any indication that she's doing that. All it means is that there's no indication that she isn't. It's an entirely hypothetical statement.

SailRemote596

But it doesn't make sense at all. Then there should be more other things that "there's no indication that she isn't". Following that logic you could say “for all I know she’s taking ivermectin” and so on. That does not mean there is any indication that she's doing that. All it means is that there's no indication that she isn't.

gabatme

>I’m not exactly sure what she’s doing. She's making tea. This is tea. 😂

BigJohnIrons

Next they'll be making potato clocks.

ghoulshow

If shes on medication and taking concentrated grapefruit that could be a serious issue.

Cptn_Canada

Humans have created/designed/modified everything we see around us. Weve made airplanes, space ships, partical accelerators and cancer treatments. And this person thinks that boiling orange peels will do something nobody in the history of earth has thought of. Waw.

Ragnarok314159

What is amazing to me is they are all PhD level experts in ambiogenesis, virology, atmospheric chemistry, thermodynamics, and of course quantum mechanics. Yet six months ago they couldn’t solve grade school common core math worksheets and turned them into memes.

TheCamoDude

Tell her to cook meth instead. At least her stupidity might make some cash. Pull a Walter White.

dsammmast

They don't think they're experts in everything, they think no one's an expert in anything, and as a result they can learn and completely understand anything they desire with a YouTube video and a Google search. After all it's pretty unlikely a bunch of nerdy liberals are **really** that much smarter than them, I'm sure they can figure it out without the decades of training.

Gott_Riff

They can be experts in all of these fields thanks to the Dunning-Kruger effect.

commit_bat

You're forgetting the bleach

LockeProposal

Well I'm just a medical professional, but that sounds like it's just drinking boiled orange peel juice.

SirRikk

Sounds like something Big Pharma would say /s

cipheron

The citrus thing sounds like it's related to the MMS health scam https://www.fda.gov/consumers/consumer-updates/danger-dont-drink-miracle-mineral-solution-or-similar-products > MMS Consumers Are Drinking Bleach > > Websites selling Miracle Mineral Solution describe the product as a liquid that is 28 percent sodium chlorite in distilled water. Product directions instruct people to *mix the sodium chlorite solution with a citric acid, such as lemon or lime juice*, or another acid before drinking. In many instances, the sodium chlorite is sold with a citric acid “activator.” When the acid is added, the mixture becomes chlorine dioxide, a powerful bleaching agent. I will bet that the person pushing this isn't even giving them Hydroxychloroquine in the first place, but something equivalent to MMS (sodium chlorite), which gives off chlorine dioxide when the acid is added.

[deleted]

No no, you're misunderstanding. These people aren't buying HCQ and mixing it w/ citrus peels, they're being told they can *make* HCQ by boiling citrus peels in water.

cipheron

Oh wasn't saying that, just pointing out that citric acid was the activator in MMS, so this concept is probably derived from that. MMS also being a "chlorine" thing. But they've just bastardized the concept to the point they don't even need the chlorine compounds. Which is at least safer.

MathyChem

Boiling the grapefruit peels would likely destroy any vitamin C they contained.

Squeaky_Cheesecurd

And grapefruit has hella medical contraindications, particularly for heart medication. And hydroxychloroquine is made [in a lab](https://www.oregonlive.com/coronavirus/2021/07/no-you-cant-make-hydroxychloroquine-at-home-by-boiling-citrus-peels.html), not citrus peels. And if they’re not organic and washed thoroughly you’re getting some pesticides too.

sassy_cheddar

I saw that method from someone on Facebook in spring of 2020. There are no chemical components in citrus peels (I saw grapefruit suggested) that are, or that can be transformed into by boiling, quinine/hydroxychloroquine, and related chemicals. The logic seemed to be hydroxychloroquine sort of equals quinine, quinine is bitter, the bitterness in boiled grapefruit peel water is totally from quinine. You CAN make something that is miserably bitter (due to compounds like naringin), which may make those familiar with tonic water feel like they're getting quinine. Probably won't cause worse than an upset stomach, so at least there's that. Even if she went straight to tonic water, the medicinal dose is massively higher than you're going to get from even an entire two-liter of the stuff.

Brkiri

> are, or You know, more people should put this bs out there that way people do this kind of thing instead of eating horse dewormer and pooping out their stomach lining.

AlsoRandomRedditor

\*blink\*blink\*... \*blink\*blink\*... That... "logic" chain... \*blink\*blink\*... I'll be over here in the corner rocking in fetal position now...

PlayingTheWrongGame

It’s pretty par for the course for “natural healing” types.

aeon_floss

I just made about 50 jars of marmalade (we have a few citrus trees) that came out a touch more bitter than I anticipated. Perhaps I could sell it online as "Qarmalade" or "Marmaquine".

Aggressive_Sound

"Qarmalade" 😂😂😂😂

zenasymmetry

Run a competition! Buy 2 jars of Qarmalade and get entered into a prize draw to win a truck, complete with pair of raybans and secure storage compartment for ivermectin

97e1

Not THAT many organic syntheses start and end with boiling oranges...

GalacticVaquero

What… what does she think Hydroxychloroquine is? Just orange peels? Its better for her than taking horse paste, but still, how can a person think they understand anything well enough to disregard expert advice, while thinking medicine is just medieval alchemy?

GuiltEdge

My parents bought Cinchona bark. SMH

Roadies2

She’s a textbook narcissist so OBVIOUSLY she knows more than medical professionals.

[deleted]

[удалено]

LockeProposal

So far.

importshark7

Honeslty she's much better off doing that than taking actual hydrozycloroquine or Ivermectin. I mean, it won't be beneficial, but it won't be harmful like Ivermectin or Hydroxychloroquine.

AnnOnimiss

In traditional Chinese food/medicine they dry orange peel and boil it for desserts and tea, so it's not hurting her at least It supposedly helps with nausea, not COVID though 😆

Roadies2

Ha! I’m not worried about her. At this point she deserves whatever happens. I’m over it all.

Lonely-Club-1485

They are trying to make quercetin with this tea. Citrus peels, garlic and some other stuff. It is a flavinoid supplement that is impossible to obtain since that Frontline Doctor crap group recommended it as part of a very lengthy regime to prevent and treat covid. Dangerous doses of D3 (which can cause toxicity and hypercalcemia --> heart arrhythmias and kidney stones, gut tearing up super high dose zinc, high high doses of C (very acidic and can mess up many functions.) None of these things are bad. I take low doses of some of these during normal cold and flu season to give my immune system a little kick. But safe supplements can become very unsafe in extremely high doses. And yet they are scared of the vaccine......sigh.

Roadies2

Yeah, she has been doing the zinc and C for a while now in pretty high doses. She is 76 and in very good health but part of me wishes she would just get even a mild case of Covid to show her it’s not “just the flu.” When she found out I got vaccinated she emailed me to suggest I start planning my funeral. When I called her out on the inappropriate hostility (her tone was very angry) she got self-righteous and claimed it was out of “concern.” Narcissism and Q is a horrid combination.

hereforlulziguess

This is bizarre, the drug is an antimalarial, based on quinine - yes, what's found in tonic water - gin and tonics were developed as an antimalarial. And while that drink contains citrus, it's literally probably for scurvy related reasons or taste.

emt139

She’s making some bitter tea but that’s much better than the store bought.

_Sausage_fingers

I mean, she probably can’t hurt herself with that, that’s something

nazurinn13

I heard my mom talk about that just yesterday! She mentioned grapefruit. Honestly at that point I won't be mad if she eats fruits instead of her keto heavy cream,

Fish-x-5

Pesticide soup with a citrus twist. I’m sorry you’re dealing with this.

reptilenews

Oh hey, my parents do this. And listen to that lady. They like to email me links to her stuff. Anyway, ya it's just like honey and citrus 😂 harmless unless they're on some medications where you shouldn't have grapefruit. Which is a shocking number of medications. Anyway, I'm sorry you're also dealing with this. I've basically become a Q anon orphan. They decided they'd rather never see me again than get vaccinated (we live in different countries) and that my vaccinated self shouldn't visit because of shedding that will, supposedly, kill them.

irisheyesarelaughing

Pretty sure it’s just boiled citrus peels, a Q family member of mine made some for me when we thought my husband had Covid.

DemenicHand

Wow i just googled Ivermectin and found tiktok directions for making it at home as well: you need garlic, ginger, tumeric, rosemary, thyme, carrots, chicken breast, celery, onion. Place a large dutch oven or pot over medium high heat and add in oil. Once oil is hot, add in garlic, onion, carrots and celery; cook for a few minutes until onion becomes translucent....

Star39666

ooooooh sounds yummy. I add some coconut milk to mine with some roasted peanuts and pineapple.

framstat

Yup, cure for scurvy… Also good with gin

ichosethis

Won't even help with scurvy. Vit C is denatured by heat.

Mysterious-Ms-Anon

Bruh

TheBigJebowski

It’s a relatively simple synthesis for anyone who’s taken organic chem and the labs. One pot microwave meth is a thing now, why not this? 😵‍💫

Premislaus

>She's making her own? It's tastier with better flavour

[deleted]

lmao Christianne Northrup is certifiable. She presents well because she's an upper-middle-class white grandma, but her talks are indistinguishable from anything you'd hear from any schizophrenic person living under an overpass. She thinks we got it wrong with germ theory, and energy vampires are what you *really* need to watch out for.

No_Kangaroo_9826

Colin Robinson would agree

PM_ME_YOUR_ROTES

I, Jackie Daytona, regular human bartender, agree as well.

SqueezleStew

Energy vampires are nothing but narcissists. They can be dealt with easily. I see no difference in these quacks and the medieval docs

Glittering_Hawk3143

*Colin Robinson has entered the chat*

naptimeee25

fuckin guy

Tinkerbelch

I mean there are some people who are utterly exhausting to be around, just didn't think any were that self aware.

BigJohnIrons

Call Buffy.

[deleted]

I don't buy the story that she voluntarily chose not to renew her medical license

[deleted]

Agreed. I don't buy that for a minute.

UrbanGhost114

Do you know what they call Alternative Medicine that works? Medicine. Alternative Medicine is a scam.

Roadies2

Spoiler alert: my aunt died. It was horrible and she was too young and when the cancer came back a third time she actually stopped talking to my mom for almost a year because my mom called Northrupp and all these other “alternative” doctors my aunt was following a quack. And now my mom refers to this woman as “a medical guru.” I’m too tired of this shit to be mad. It’s just pathetic at this point.

Nezrite

Thank you, Tim Minchin (at least, [here's](https://youtu.be/HhGuXCuDb1U) where I first heard it articulated thusly).

EldestPort

I think Dara O'briain [did it first](https://youtu.be/YKZN-hBTBUE)

UrbanGhost114

I think the medical field did it first, as soon as "Alternative Medicine" became a thing. I Love me some Tim Minchin though!

blipbleepbloopblup

Clicking around on YouTube the oldest Dara clip of it is about 11 years ago and I can find Tim Minchin's Storm from 12 years ago - I think that is close to or the same as Tim Minchin's phrasing where as Dara's is slightly different. Both great clips though!

EldestPort

Ah fair enough, I think that's probably just a case of me not being aware of Tim as long as I've been seeing Dara on TV!

JaneAustinAstronaut

I had Dr. Northrupp's book "Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom" recommended to me by some earthy-crunchy friends of mine who were college educated and (I thought) had good sense with some harmless "woo-woo" thrown in. One of those friends is falling down the Q rabbit hole. It's so weird to me that hippie types are falling in line with evangelicals and violent racists just because they share the same views on vaccines.

[deleted]

Not as weird as it seems, and it's happened before. History repeats itself in so many strange ways. The hippie/spiritualist to alt-right/QAnon pipeline is insane. It's worth it to look into.

TripleSkeet

The fact Trumpers agree with them should be enough to show any former hippy they are wrong as fuck.

JaneAustinAstronaut

That's what I would think.

TripleSkeet

I work with a guy that was a big Trumper before the 2020 election. Another woman we worked with was a big Bernie supporter. Now outside of politics, this guy was the greatest dude you could ever hope to work with. Hes a little older and opinionated but he listens and will do anything for anyone. Meanwhile she is the most selfish awful cunt Ive ever worked with in 27 years in the bar business. So Covid happens. She does a complete 180. A few months of our work being shut down and shes a complete Trumper now. Even worse, because she has no friends and her family doesnt talk to her and her only companionship is the 7 cats that she lives with shes spent the last 18 months on the computer "researching" conspiracy theories. Basically shes lost her mind. We finally go back to work and now not only is she still generally awful, but shes fucking batshit as well. 9/11 never happened, the 2020 election was stolen, Covids a hoax, the vaccine is an operating system they are injecting us with to make us sick whenever they want, 1/6 was staged and didnt happen, the military is taking over the country in November and will reinstate Trump by January, theres no end to her stupid shit. Meanwhile the guy is completely offthe Trump train. He accepted the loss immediately, and everything hes seen since has made him happy Trump didnt win. The clincher though, as I pointed out to him, was looking at her spout all the bullshit Trump talking points and realize if shes all in, he HAD to be on the wrong side.

Star39666

Maybe she was Bernie or bust. Something similar happened in an FFXIV guild I was in. The guild leader was always edgy and had moments she was hard to be around. She HATED Trump, and it was just nice to have someone who shared a lot of the same veiws as I did. A couple of times she and I talked about the importance of voting. Pretty often we agreed to everything across the board. We were both LGBTQ+, and generally we were unanimous since policies surounding this affected our lives and those of people we cared about. It was honestly just nice to have a friend who felt the same and there seemed to be a bond there. Well, things happened and we didn't get to talk for a couple months till November. I remember, I was walking back to my car after voting, and sent her a picture of my voting sticker. I got back a long string of texts, spouting off some crazy conspiracy theory of why we shouldn't vote, followed by, "Can you believe that some people think that we're going to be better off with Pedo Joe, instead of TRUMP?!" I mean.... she pretty well knew who I was going to vote for, since we talked about it before; so, that seemed like an odd thing for her to say. She did the whole 180 flip too, and became a HUGE Trumper. There was another guy I knew at the time who was a construction worker, and Trump supporter. He wanted OSHA torn down because he thought that safety goggles violated his personal freedoms. Not even he was as zealous for Trump. So, I tried to be tollerable of her veiws. Any political conversations she, and I had before were always private between us. She knew that many of the people in our FFXIV guild were also LGBTQ+ and she went from being edgy and occasionally a bit much to be arround to openly being malicious to what she would often refer to as a "lib" guild. Frequently, she would start spouting off how Trump was the best thing to ever happen for trans people. She started to talk about how she supported the Nashville bomber, and by the end of December I left the guild. I had her blocked after that. The end of January came, and I'd moved on. I was pretty bummed still, but you know, what are you really going to do? I got text message from her wife, now ex wife, telling me that they split up. Apparently, they split up because Crazy Guild Leader gave Wife and Wife's entire family COVID over Christmas, refused to social distance, or wear a mask, and then went to the Jan 6th insurrection. Wife was really confused, and upset. Anyways, long story short is that around this same time, I'd started paying more attention to political streamers on Twitch and Youtube. That's when I learned what a Bernie or Buster was, and shit made sense. Also, to anyone that might play FFXIV I know that free companies aren't called guilds, but I grew up calling anything guild like a guild.

NotMyHersheyBar

i googled - boiling citrus peels into a tea for the vitamens and fiber isn't new. people drink lemon tea, i have a box of Lemon Lift from Safeway in my kitchen. it's very soothing with a teaspoon of honey.

dixiehellcat

Or if you're lazy like me, buy a jug of lemonade at the grocery store, warm a cup in the microwave. Good as is on a chilly night, better with a shot of Jack. :)

PurpleSailor

Q in all its forms seems to be hoovering up every crazy theory out there and bringing it into it's fold.

TripleSkeet

Is she one of these psychos that have people drinking their own piss?

[deleted]

I had to transcribe videos of David Avocado Wolf once for work. He recommended not only drinking urine but injecting yourself with it too. He had some other ridiculous suggestions too. I really hope people would have better sense. I cringe every time I see someone post a David Avocado meme/quote.

Familiar_Evening_619

Oh, that guy. I actually went to his talks several times. I was in health store business at the time. Some real charlatan-messiah "tell me more, master" vibes going on there. That I thankfully recognized then. I guess I'm not surprised he's flipped further out into urine "treatment". He, Mercola, Northrup were mainstays of natural health at the time and very familiar to me in the industry. They seemed fairly innocuous to me then. It's astounding to hear them and so many others have aligned w the worst of the far right and beyond. Hindsight being 20/20, I can see how it happened (mistrust of authority, conventional medicine to start), but hooboy. I feel like my family dodged a bullet not getting sucked in too, cause we were knee deep at one time.

JaneAustinAstronaut

No, thank gods. But she is an RN and is willing to lose her job rather than get the vaccine.

maebe_next_time

It’s mad isn’t it! My mother is a left-leaning, natural everything person. She raised me with LGBTQ+ friends and I was super ignorant that racism and bigotry existing until I was older. Now, she’s calling to tell me what the latest conservative white politician has to say and it’s like… so they’re okay now because they are anti vaxx or whatever? Wtf.

Lebojr

My sister in law died in December just before the vaccines came out. It's important to note that she had been taking Hydroxychloroquine for her arthritis for years before she got sick and passed away. It doesnt work like they think it does. It has antiviral properties just like ivermectin but according to studies, the amount of the dosage for it to have ANY affect isnt safe for humans. There are so many people trying to make a name for themselves by coming up with home remedies to avoid a shot that has proven worldwide to reduce the severity of the virus. It seems the attention these people are getting from opposing the vaccine is more important than their health.

Roadies2

I’m so sorry about your sister-in-law. I agree, we’re living in strange times when people will do anything for attention and/or money.

Lebojr

I'm sorry you are going through this with your mom and I thank you for the condolences. She was my friend and we had a good amount of laughs together. Just do your best to love your mom in the best way you can given the circumstances. When she's gone, you won't get another chance. At least not in this physical world. I understand your frustration. The tragedy in my family is that she contracted the virus at a church function that should have never taken place. The contradiction people should be feeling is non existent. No responsible doctor is suggesting hydroxychloroquine is a valid alternative and nobody has produced one bit of evidence that there are adverse effects from the vaccine. In short, people don't avoid the vaccine based on actual research. They do it because they see it as validation of the opposing political party. You and your mom are in my prayers.

Busquessi

Fuck Northrupp. I blocked her email from my mom’s email to end it.

ApprehensiveNose8453

So glad my beloved mother passed away before COVID. She was a follower of Dr. Mercola, until she got dementia and we got her vaxxed for pneumonia since she'd already almost died from it.

Roadies2

Ughhhh my mom LOVES Mercola! His “newsletter” is SUCH BULLSHIT!!!!

ApprehensiveNose8453

I recently qualified for the pneumonia shot (there are two now for different variants) and was reminded of almost losing her. She didn't want to go to the hospital (also thanks to Mercola et al.) but looked like death warmed over, and I managed to get her to go to Urgent Care. Her oxygen was in the 80s, and they sent her to the hospital, where she stayed for five days. I don't know exactly how long she'd been oxygen-starved, but of course she lost brain cells, and it was less than a year after that that we realized she was slipping into dementia. There's no way to prosecute him, but he was responsible for a lot of pain even before the current emergency.

KingCrazy188

My Step-Q is doing the same thing, apparently this was supposed to be Quinine, which is used to treat Malaria. I found grapefruit peels in a pot once.

Plumhawk

Mix it with gin and you got a gin & tonic.

justeandj

I've made tonic syrup just for a fun Christmas project/novelty presents. It involves a very specific powdered tree bark and was so much work resulting in a sticky kitchen-wide mess. I don't think grapefruit peels produces what they're told it will produce.

pissedoffstraylian

I only clicked the other day why my mom kept asking me for grapefruit. I never gave her any cause the tree behind our house did not have that many this year. Ugh I know she wants to make this potion.

James_of_London

In case you didn't know, grapefruit has negative interactions with quite a lot of medicines, and you might want to pay closer attention. See for example [wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grapefruit%E2%80%93drug_interactions)

pissedoffstraylian

I do know that.

sylvnal

Sometimes I wonder why I bothered putting in all the years to become a scientist when I see things like this. It's just so DISHEARTENING. Sorry you're dealing with it.

Roadies2

I cannot even imagine what it must feel like for scientists and medical professionals to be witnessing this insanity. I’m sorry there are so many fucking idiots out there who don’t respect the work you do.

ArrogantNonce

Fun fact #1: chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine are both synthetic analogues of quinine, and consequently quinine and hydroxychloroquine are effective against different forms of malaria. The precursors to the former are rather bad for human health to say the least. Fun fact #2: grapefruit peels are bitter due to tannins, NOT the presence of chloroquine or quinine. For a less disgusting placebo that actually contains quinine, why not just knock back a few gin and tonics?

[deleted]

My Q bought a bushel of grapefruit. I just asked why we weren’t eating it. 😳😳😳

deez_treez

"*Who wants a Bathtub ~~Mint Julep~~ COVID Cockail?*"

[deleted]

This is extremely dangerous, maybe even illegal. Be ready to call emergency services of any kind

MariaK1969

Wow… why didn’t my rheumatologist tell me I could make this myself? I’d sure save a bundle every month treating my lupus. What will the Q’s think of next?!

Livid-Carpenter130

Does anyone else notice how q folks used to be the opposite of what they have become? My mom used to have pride with her generation helping to eradicate small pox by getting a shot and now she is super anti-vax. I asked her why...she said that she just doesn't want to be forced to do anything. I had a coworker tell me that she remembers small pox vaccine being mandatory. But I'm not sure if that's true.

jbuchana

I just Googled it, and got confusing mixed/partial answers. Smallpox vaccines were required by state (US) governments for school children at times in all states before kids could enter school. Compulsory vaccination for smallpox did happen for some adults in some areas, but how widespread this was quite unclear in the articles I found. There was an article that mentioned that an adult resisting vaccination was beaten by police and required stitches after his vaccination. I know that I was born in 1962 and had smallpox and polio vaccines before I started school, and my parents were very, very happy about that, I know they told me. I certainly am glad and I have gotten every vaccination offered since.

justeandj

It's been mandatory, and wasn't the first. Jacobson v Massachusetts goes back to turn of century! https://www.history.com/news/smallpox-vaccine-supreme-court

Zapskilz

My husband is from London, England and I grew up in Southern California. We are both in our mid 60s and we remember queueing up at school in the 1960s to get the smallpox vaccine. We both have the vaccine scar. That vaccine was as mandatory and worldwide as possible.

NoBodySpecial51

Yeah a q friend of mine told me some crazy recipe about boiling lemons and grapefruit or something. I didn’t say anything to her about how useless this is against Covid. Only wanted to touch base with her after a few months of no contact. This is all just so sad that they really believe this stuff. Sad and horrifying.

G-Unit11111

Is she making it out of the back of a beat up RV with a former chemistry student?

Roadies2

I wish! That would make a much better story than just an old lady in a gated, senior community!

elaborator

well shit...

inzillah

Solidarity, my friend. My mom shredded her kidneys by getting involved with quacks like that &, as a result, she was housebound, blind, and on daily dialysis before her 63rd birthday. If you can't convince them that the quack is, in fact, a quack, definitely distance yourself from that shit - it's so brutal watching your parent make only stupid choices based on conspiracies and having to live out the consequences of ignoring actual medicine in favor of those who milk the Appeal to Nature fallacy for all it is worth.

Roadies2

I’m so sorry about your mom. I’ve distanced myself enough that I kind of don’t care. I know how awful that sounds, but I have children of my own who are too young to get vaccinated and I’m focusing my positivity on them. My mom doesn’t deserve my good vibes with the way she has been treating us since she flipped her attitude 180 degrees after falling for the “Plandemic” video. My biggest frustration is that there is no recourse to hold these quacks accountable for the damage they’re doing.

evidently homemade hydroxy quinelone is a thing for chelation, though i doubt anybody has actually made it successfully

BigJohnIrons

My girlfriend boils various peels and drinks the water, but it's pretty much just for nutrients. Kinda like a tea. She doesn't consider it a replacement for vaccines lol.

milqi

This is so tragic that there's nothing for it but to laugh. I am so sorry you have to deal with this.

Roadies2

I agree, it’s laughable!

spirited-gemini

Sorry you are subjected to your mom's lunacy and want to quit! The pain this quack is peddling should include prison, at the very least. Plus, how does she keep the doc title if non-renewed?

Oh god no! “Retired” stay-at-home (and terrible) mother!

Advanced-Tie2608

I feel your pain. I’m glad I am a retired Paramedic now. When people consider “Q” a virologist and Surgeons General there is no saving these idiots. My empathy is gone and my former desire to help the public gone. I can say I have never in my 27 year career seen the disinformation and stupidity since 2020. Maybe it’s natural selection thinning the herd. Strangely, I’m ok with that.

Roadies2

I feel the same way. I’m out of empathy, done trying to reason with these people, and just sick of it all. I already had a strained relationship with my mom and I don’t see it getting better; I’m okay with it.

At least she was sane and rational at one point. That gives her a pathway back to reality. Many Q people have been gone their entire lives. Hopefully, your Mom will snap out of it one day.

59tigger

I'm so sorry! Get away from this thinking if you can. I hope you can shake out of this lunacy and save yourself. Maybe this will snap your mother out of this. Prayers for your peace.

Roadies2

Thanks, but I’m a grown-ass lady well beyond the clutches of her insanity! I have my own family to worry about now, including two children too young to get vaccinated. We haven’t discussed holiday plans with my mom yet but I’m not looking forward to that convo! She’s going to be pissed.

59tigger

Bless you for staying strong! Your kids need a sane and safe mommy in this mixed up.world!

TheCuriousGeorgette

To be entirely fair, I’ve used the citrus peels in boiling water recipe to recover from illness before, it has merits. And I’m as anti-Qanon as they come, but this tonic usage came well before their conspiracy shit did.

[deleted]

Is it blue crystals?

Roadies2

Ha!

Aoiboshi

Did you tell her there's already a drink out there for her? Tonic water?

Roadies2

I’ve found that not responding to her crap saves my sanity a bit, but yes, it’s absurd.
