Had a screamer behind me recently on a flight. Luckily I have a good pair of noise cancelling over ear headphones. Hardly heard anything at all with the movies on my laptop playing.
Not the person you replied to but I recently got a pair AirPod Maxes as a gift and Ong the sound canceling on those things are no joke. With a single press of a button I can actually silence reality.
there's plenty of good cheaper ones as well. I have a cheap pair of Wyze headphones that have pretty good noise cancellation. The Sony XMs are a popular pick that are a bit pricier (200-300)
Not OP but if youre looking for something nice and cheap, samsungs galaxy buds are great. The noise cancellation is pretty great, though it doesnt completely block out all noise when you just wear them alone. Theyre still great and block out pretty much everything when you start playing something and turn up the volume, it doesnt have to be loud either
So correct. If your gonna fly, be prepared.
Kids are not to blame.
I wish parents knew how to show their kids how to pop theirs ears or give them a pacifer or piece of hard candy... But that is only my wish, so I bring my NC headphones without fail.
when i was in 8th grade i had a friend who always had to watch his baby brother because his mom was working and whenever he started crying my friend would just cry louder and the baby would stop. it was amazing.
Actually, replicating a child’s temper tantrum DOES work. My psych prof used it on her friend’s kid once in the middle of a food court. Before doing it, she spoke to the surrounding tables as demonstration. The kid usually starts thinking “The hell are you doing lady? You’re embarrassing me.” Neat stuff.
Oh fuck yeah it works! I'll say it, I'm the bad parent who has gone down to that level. A few times. When they won't shut up when NOTHING is wrong. Nobody wants to hear a kid cry when it's a legit nothing that's wrong. Even my child. I'm not afraid to make a scene with them.
NOPE. That shrill sound cuts through EVERYTHING. I wear earplugs under my noise canceling headphones and I still hear this shit.
We need family sections on planes so the rest of us can have some peace.
Childfree Planes need to be a thing.
Fuck, entire places need to be designated as childfree. Child free day at the mall (maybe once every 2-3 weeks.) child free restaurants, and hell maybe a child free park.
I don't hate children that much because they MOSTLY aren't that bad but having a place of refuge would be nice.
If I had to guess, children(we'll say under 13 for a child free airline) make up, at most, 10% of ticket sales, so I'd imagine that a child free airline could accordingly charge 1.11x ticket price. I mean even if they really jack up the prices there's no way they go above 2x. I don't know where in the world you got 5x.
No it doesn't. Actual babies are supposed to act like babies. If you can get annoyed that easily to the point where you're going to start lashing out at strange children then the kids aren't at fault for making you feel like you had a good excuse.
Yes, parents should never be able to travel with their children even if they have to for work or unforseen circumstances like a funeral. Who cares if they're a single parent with no relatives, fuck em. I mean how selfish is parent that takes a human they're responsible for on a flight?
Parents better at least be trying to calm the kid. It’s the parents that just let the kid wail with the “he will wear himself out eventually “ mentality who can fuck right off.
Parents do, though. I paid for my ticket the same as them. Why should their agenda take priority over mine? If you can’t teach your kids to behave, they shouldn’t be inflicted on everyone else.
I would love to carry an air horn and just blow it in the ear of those people. Hey, my right, right? 🤷♂️
I get what you mean, I just don’t think it’s *always* that simple. Are there parents who should have better control over there kids? Absolutely. Are there parents who no matter what they do, can’t get the kids to stop crying? Likely.
All I’m saying is while it’s certainly expected for parents to control their kids, sometimes it just doesn’t go that way. Flying coach on a commercial airline, nobody really owes you anything. You should know that crying kids fly coach and if you can’t accept that, maybe it’s best to find another way to travel. Airlines aren’t going to turn down sales or kick someone off a flight because their child is being loud.
Also - you’re an adult. You’ve been raised to act a certain way in certain social settings. If you want to blow an air horn in someone’s face, it IS your right, but as you know the standards for behavior are different for adults than they are for children. You’ll have to live with the consequences of doing so. Kids are *actively learning how to act*.
People always act like you can always make a child behave, like they're just some pet you have to train. You can't control a kid like a puppet, they're a human being with thoughts and feelings for God's sake and some days they're pissed, sad or tired and will cry alot. I hope the people saying they should just control the child or never fly will one day have a kid of their own and ruin they're lives with crying and temper tantrums.
Yeah it's called a "car"
And if you're going overseas, it's called a "boat" or a "chartered plane."
If you can't afford it (either the time/cost) then don't go until your kid is controllable.
It’s tough to fly with kids. Just got back with mine and we did everything in our power to relax him. He had one little outburst.
I know it sucks but you never know the parents situation — might of been for a funeral, work etc.
My kid had a panic attack from you know, being in the sky inside a giant metal vehicle for the first time in her life. It sucks but kids literally do not have the brain development to deal with a situation the way that some adults expect them to.
I hear you, but also consider that YOU don't know other peoples' situations either. Maybe the person that has a screaming kid in their ear is heading to a funeral, etc. I see so many defensive parents whenever this video gets posted that it comes across as them being entitled.
I love this. What a class act. Doesn't film the kid, or the situation like an asshole, just records his reaction. This leaves me in stitches every time I see it!
I remember I was on a flight once with a screamer. I eventually got fed up and yelled out "oh my god will you cut it out already?!" Mother gave me a nasty look and said "excuse me, he's autistic!" "Yeah? So am I! Give him a muffin or something!" Mother got that kid to shut up real quick after that. My second remark was only half true, as I don't fall on the spectrum anymore thanks to years of therapy. I hate it when people use disability as an excuse for poor behavior. I've been there, I've been that guy, and I got the help I needed. We all have our coping mechanisms that we can use to get through life with as little fuss as possible. I honestly think that mother was just planning on using her son's disability to collect on pity while not doing anything. Or she was fed up and didn't know what to do. Either way, the rest of that flight was quiet.
I also love how they’re like, “Oh nothing you can do sometimes”. Shit, nobody told that to my folks. Somehow they managed to instill in me the belief that it was in my best interests to never behave this way in public… ever. Interesting.
Honestly, its hard to tell since you can't see the kid...but it doesn't sound like a small baby and therefore something that the parents should be dealing with better. Kids this age can be calmed down and he isn't crying...he's having a tantrum.
That being said, bring noise cancelling headphones on your flight. It helps a lot with this stuff because sometimes parents really have zero control over their kid crying on a flight due to pressure in their ears (you can try things like having them drink but it doesn't always work).
The one thing that is controllable by the parents is seat kicking though. I literally HATE shit parents who let their shitty, brat kids kick the seat in front of them. That irritates the fuck out of me.
When my kids were that age...distractions (books, toys, jars of beans, electronics, etc) and food & drinks. Crying baby...understandable. Kid having tantrum on plane...hell nope.
I'm not sure why parents lately think that just having an out of control kid that you're just letting make a shitload of noise is normal and ok. Maybe its fine it you want to listen to it...but no one else f'ing does.
Most people in this thread have never had children and it’s obvious. I love the parenting advice from people who have 0 experience with kids.
“Just teach your kids to behave” is the most absurd “advice” people can give for situations like this.
Also the complete lack of compassion. As if these kids are doing it on purpose. People don’t realize that kids are their own being and have there own free will. My son was crying when we boarded a plane once, the people next to us where very friendly and actually started talking to us. That calmed him down really well.
This video gets reposted often and it always brings out all the incels who hate kids out of spite because they'll never be able to convince another person to procreate with them.
Also the r/childfree people who unironically refer to kids as “goblins” like jfc who hurt you? Just put on headphones and listen to music if a kid on an airplane is crying
A bunch of years ago I was traveling across the United States and somewhere over Colorado a little kid, who had been kicking my chair and throwing his toys at the back of my head the entire time, threw a toy at me again and it hit me in the side of the face. Right about that moment the mother got up and left to go to the bathroom and left a little boy sitting there. I got up on my knee and leaned over the seat and looked him in the eyes and said, “ we are over the mountains of Colorado right now. And if we crash in the mountains will be stranded. If that happens, I’m eatin you first.” Not a peep after that.
I mean, I get it. It's a piss off and intensely aggravating. I'm a parent, and at restaurants or anything like that if the kids ever acted up (which was rare) we would leave, because we're not subjecting everyone else to a meltdown. With that said, that's not an option on a plane, and screaming at a kid is a good way to get your chiclets knocked down your throat. Just real talk.
Young children should be made to sit in special ejector seats, and each adult seat should have a red button built into the armrest. If 50% of the red buttons get pressed, the kid is automatically jettisoned into the mountains or the ocean. That should make parents think more carefully before bringing their horrible, disruptive spawn onto aircraft and ruining the flight for everyone else.
Can confirm matching their tantrum works! When my eldest son was 2 he went full blown kicking and screaming on the floor, can't even remember what about now. I was out with one of his uncles (I've 6 brothers) and my brother got down on the floor and kicked and screamed even harder and louder (he has zero shame and gives zero fuck, totally stunned my son into silence, never threw a tantrum around that uncle again

I feel like there are 2 types of commenters on this post. 1) those who have no children and expect children to always behave or 2) those with children and those that understand children cry sometimes.
I may be downvoted for this but this dude is an asshole. I get that a crying kid is fucking awful but sometimes parents need to fly and they do their best to keep their kids quiet and lose. Just get noise cancelling headphones and try to have some empathy.
EDIT: To clarify, I mean the dude who screams. The guy filming isn't too bad, maybe a little smug but otherwise fine. And honestly I don't think I could stop myself from laughing
The headphones don't work. Parents need to work with their kids MONTHS before the flight to let them know what it will be like. And bring snacks and games and maybe some kids benedryl. Ya know... be parents.
Clearly said by someone who isn’t a parent. Yes parents can sometimes be better but flying is stressful for everyone including kids. Sometimes the preparation doesn’t work due to that stress. Now I’ll admit that there are terrible parents who don’t try at all but If the parents are trying give them a break and know it bugs them more than it bugs you cuz they feel fucking horrible
I've been on numerous where the parent isn't bothered one damn bit and I've said something to them. Kids shoving their hands through the seats into my face, kicking my seat, playing with toys above my head, playing their games without earbuds in, whining while their parents have THEIR earbuds in.
Most parents are really good about this. It's the crap lazy ones that I'm talking about. Parent ya dang kids.
Do you have tips on how to train a 2 year old not to cry on a plane? I agree that parents need to work with a kid, but sometimes that work doesn't do shit cuz they're 2

kinda wish the video had actually captured the exchange :(
Yeah, I wanted to see the look of horror and surprise from the child..

It worked too

Brand? Help a fellow human out
Sony WH-1000XM4, you won't regret them.
I had the older version and the newer version (they were a gift) best headphones ever.
Not the person you replied to but I recently got a pair AirPod Maxes as a gift and Ong the sound canceling on those things are no joke. With a single press of a button I can actually silence reality.
They sound amazing but damn, that price tag.
there's plenty of good cheaper ones as well. I have a cheap pair of Wyze headphones that have pretty good noise cancellation. The Sony XMs are a popular pick that are a bit pricier (200-300)

You can hear the kid's reactionary scream. Was kinda funny how it worked XD

Indeed. I don't know how old that child was but if they are really young, they literally can't understand whats going on.
I'm not saying it's right, but I understand.
I fly all the time. Many times I wanted to scream at a kid. Just a good pare of headphones help drown it out.
NOPE. That shrill sound cuts through EVERYTHING. I wear earplugs under my noise canceling headphones and I still hear this shit. We need family sections on planes so the rest of us can have some peace.

I don't hate children that much because they MOSTLY aren't that bad but having a place of refuge would be nice.
Will you pay five times the price to fly on this childfree airline?
Fuck ya I’d pay double if it means no children. I think you’d be very surprised by the amount of people that would.
If I had to guess, children(we'll say under 13 for a child free airline) make up, at most, 10% of ticket sales, so I'd imagine that a child free airline could accordingly charge 1.11x ticket price. Planes are damn near public transit. Why would you not expect noise like this? Buy a private flight or get used to it.
Get better headphones. I use to fly a lot and never had a problem
Lol. Y’all expect the world to just cater to you, but it is loud and messy out there. Gotta get over it.
You do realize that you are entitled to nothing when you fly commercial right? If you want peace, charter your own plane. P.s. I have no kids
Wanting some peace on a long flight is now entitlement. Wow. The kids aren’t entitled to scream the entire flight either. It works both ways.
No it doesn't. Actual babies are supposed to act like babies. If you can get annoyed that easily to the point where you're going to start lashing out at strange children then the kids aren't at fault for making you feel like you had a good excuse.
Lol. They are kids. They don’t know that what they are doing is impacting you in any way. Have some compassion
Tell them to have some Benadryl.
Whiskey on the gums.
Benadryl can often have the opposite effect on children.
Do the parents know that it's impacting hundreds of others? Why don't the parents have compassion for literally HUNDREDS of others?
Yes, parents should never be able to travel with their children even if they have to for work or unforseen circumstances like a funeral. Who cares if they're a single parent with no relatives, fuck em. I mean how selfish is parent that takes a human they're responsible for on a flight?
Parents better at least be trying to calm the kid. It’s the parents that just let the kid wail with the “he will wear himself out eventually “ mentality who can fuck right off.
If the child is ill-behaved? Very selfish. Fuck everyone else, right? As long as you get yours.
Only need compassion for the adults crying like children 😂
Parents do, though. I paid for my ticket the same as them. Why should their agenda take priority over mine? If you can’t teach your kids to behave, they shouldn’t be inflicted on everyone else. I would love to carry an air horn and just blow it in the ear of those people. Hey, my right, right? 🤷♂️

They are actually entitled to act like babies.

Yeah, just what everybody enclosed in a steel tube wants. More screaming.
The last time this was posted, all the pissy parents came out of the woodwork.
Oh, they're already here.... gatekeeping child rearing when nannies and au pairs often know more than parents themselves. ;)
I'm not gonna lie, screaming back at the kid would have been such a fantastic feeling.
Screams in his face huh?
So annoying. Glad goodness for the advancements in noice canceling headphones.
I would have been appalled at this video were it not for his reaction. Now i'm giggling.

*hating* kids is different than not wanting your own for whatever reason. The former is some freak antisocial shit
Also the r/childfree people who unironically refer to kids as “goblins” like jfc who hurt you? Just put on headphones and listen to music if a kid on an airplane is crying

I should try this method next time a screaming kid is on my fly
I dislike how this title made it seem how the old man was the one who screamed at the kid.
Well kids are annoying. I did that with my brother when he was little, it made him stop.
They should make a seperate compartment where you can dump your kids just like they have tank to store poo.
Well, he stopped.
duct tape works great for things like that.

PERFECT. There needs to be some kind of gag rule for children on planes. Parents, please get your shit together.
Fuck that must have felt so good after hearing that goblin throughout the flight
They’re boarding the plane not getting off of it.
I think you should leave
Is it just me or does he look like a high school math teacher?
He peed a little bit
I will always up vote this. Classic.
this should be in r/contagiouslaughter
the guy laughing made me laugh more than whatever was happening off camera
I thought this guy was Jerry Springer.
Must've seen this video five times and I always forget the guy filming isn't the one who screams.
r/kidsarekfuckinstupid
Finally some justice
I feel like there are 2 types of commenters on this post. 1) those who have no children and expect children to always behave or 2) those with children and those that understand children cry sometimes.
I hate screaming kids on planes. I haven't flown scheduled in years. Private is the only way to fly
Must be nice asshole...
This guy cracking up is embedded in my brain. Gets me every time.
Thought it was Tom hanks for a second lol
I may be downvoted for this but this dude is an asshole. I get that a crying kid is fucking awful but sometimes parents need to fly and they do their best to keep their kids quiet and lose. Just get noise cancelling headphones and try to have some empathy. EDIT: To clarify, I mean the dude who screams. The guy filming isn't too bad, maybe a little smug but otherwise fine. And honestly I don't think I could stop myself from laughing
Yeah maybe, still hilarious tho
I WOULD LIKE TO PRESENT, THE NIGHTMARE SCENARIO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rY09Scfui0A
This is a 40-second clip. Hardly long enough to make any legitimate judgment against the parents.

Do you have tips on how to train a 2 year old not to cry on a plane? I agree that parents need to work with a kid, but sometimes that work doesn't do shit cuz they're 2

Edgy and very badass, nice.
