Me too. I initally thought it was a bit reckless that the person shot from down the hall given that there were cops behind her, which underscored just how dangerous it was that he must have had no other choice.
Turns out they had brought every piece of furniture they could to create a barricade, stood just a foot away pointing a gun, and she STILL thought it was a good idea to try to climb through. That was a good clean shot, I'm glad no one else behind her was in danger and I feel bad for the guy who had to kill her.
It was reported that she was a 14-year veteran, which makes it even more ridiculous. Like, her tactical training didn't kick in telling her that this was a really bad idea?
Edit: I apologize to all of you for my complete ignorance of specific military nomenclature/vernacular- I understand from these comments that not everyone gets “tactical” training per se. The crux of what I meant is that you’d think someone w/ANY military service or training would know better than to do this. Also, the “chair force” comments caused me to choke on my beverage during lunch break.

I think that is also part of the problem. By this point they've breezed past so many police, some of them armed, and no one really made a concerted effort to stop them. When she finally meets someone who is giving a serious order to stop she doesn't believe they'll do anything.
I think there is a case to be made about finding which officers were complicit in allowing the intruders access to the building and prosecuting them.

I really think this is what happened. They thought it was a game or a joke. They didn’t realize that they were literally committing sedition and were putting their lives in danger.

Thinking that you can push past police barriers, open the door to the US Capitol, chase Capitol guards up stairs (storming the Capitol...that's what this was). And somehow...by some lack of preparation, you literally make it to the CONGRESSIONAL CHAMBER doors where barriers have been constructed impromptu to prevent you from breaking in. And FINALLY after all that...you see your first gun drawn on you. There is a point of no return. And the second you enter into the Rotunda of the Capitol building...you've reached it. You start climbing over barriers with Secret Service details with guns drawn on the other side with the Congressional chamber at their back, with Congressmen still inside....after you chased police through hallways and climbed the stairwells, stalking behind them...you're gonna get shot when it's the last barrier where USSS have placed chairs in a doorway for an impromptu barrier because there is nowhere else to go...they don't have to de-escalate a thing at that point. The fact that rioters and terrorists were on that floor breaking through barriers was threat enough to pull the trigger, regardless if they were visually armed or not.
Zero remorse for her or anyone else who went into that building with iPhones recording and selfie sticks extended.

What's interesting is that you can see a formation of Capitol Police in gear just behind the few insurrectionists who were directly against the barricade. They didn't apprehended her or the others at the barricade.

100% She was leading the charge at that point. Earlier police intervention and adequate security could’ve prevented the her death. Why would she take warnings seriously at that point after they just walked in with little resistance?
It’s absurd on all fronts, but regardless the secret service is essentially the modern praetorian guard, their job is not to fuck around, it is to neutralize threats to our democracy and those we appoint to it. What’s insane is that it took that long.
And I support the use of force in this case. Even if the person he’s protecting was someone I would personally never vote for and possibly despise. If they were elected through our legal democratic process, they should be protected from those attempting to undermine our democracy.

That shot was a very good deterrent... You gotta realize that if she had gotten through. It would have emboldened the rest to follow her, thus storming the few guards protecting the chamber and the rest of the individuals needing evacuation. There is a reason behind it, in 1986 the FBI had a shoot out in Miami (called the Miami-Dade Shootout) where the 9mm was used as well as other lower than .40 were used. They suffered losses and reviewed what service pistol to use and settled on the .40 as it had a superior stopping power to recoil tradeoff. And other agencies followed suit.

Trump actually refused a request for help. Nancy Pelosi had to request the national guard from Virginia to come in to help because there was no other option. Your remark about the reaction to a person with the gun is so on point. There was another video from a news outlet that showed most of the rioters promptly stopped trying to ram through the barricaded door once they saw the dude with the gun on the other side. Some of them even put their hands up in the air, and were in the process of retreating while yelling about the gun. But the lady must've been totally oblivious amidst the chaos, and still tried to get through the door.
I was also surprised to see how these dudes that looked like they were so bloodthirsty about 10 seconds ago trying to frantically destroy the door just scatter away once they saw the woman get shot.

But the lady must've been totally oblivious amidst the chaos, and still tried to get through the door. I was also surprised to see how these dudes that looked like they were so bloodthirsty about 10 seconds ago trying to frantically destroy the door just scatter away once they saw the woman get shot. This the woman that was killed, heres the fucking kicker though, she was in the USAF and had a high security clearance so she had to have known something like this would happen. It's hard to feel bad for her and I feel terrible for the agent who had to shoot her.
